You should have been there - you would have won 10 / $1.00 gold coins. Water Hunting Tips Before even getting started take a good look at the beach. You will usually, especially on ocean beaches, see areas that are washed out. If it has rained recently you may also notice channels where water has run off the upper beach. These would both be good areas to search. If the beach looks flat with no obvious areas try an S pattern. Walk down the beach at a steady pace from knee deep up to the high water mark. Eventually, you should start to find a pocket of targets. Take note of each target and its relative location to the high water mark. Many times, Mother Nature deposits objects of similar weight in the same area or at the same distance from the high water mark. Once you find several targets and they are all located on the same track you can reduce the size of your pattern and just focus on the more productive path. If at any time you hit a pocket of coins, keep digging. Remember, a pocket of coins mean that Mother Nature has deposited these items together and many times you have to dig all of the coins before hitting the deeper, heavier gold targets which may have been masked by the coin signals. It s not uncommon to dig a hundred pennies before recovering a gold ring. I actually used to keep track of the number of coins recovered. On the beaches I was working I knew that for every 75-100 coins I would end up with a piece of gold. The only problem is when you find two gold rings immediately. Now you know your going to get a sore arm digging holes before your next piece of jewelry. 2015 Officers President: Cody Reese Vice President: Roger Eaton Secretary: Rachel Hayworth Treasurer: Terry Humphries Parliamentarian: John Freeman Sr. Board: Tim Adams John Hayworth John Hamilton Jim Nobles Bill Watkins
5 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 5 Sheppard Point Outing on July 19 th The club July outing due to high water at all the other lakes was a return to Sheppard Point Recreation Area at Heyburn Lake on Saturday, July 19 th and it was a hot one. The high temperature was around the 97 mark, a fairly steady breeze, and a moderately cool lake water temperature helped some. The club supplied hamburgers, hot links, hot dogs, buns, condiments, & chips. Roger Eaton again handled the cooking with help from Wally Dick, I think it got a little hotter this time. The seasoning salt & onions made the burgers better. Great job Roger and Wally. Thank You! Thanks to John Freeman for picking up the food, supplies, extra scoops, one old guy, and transporting them to the outing. And Thanks again to John Hamilton for taking & storing the grill & tables and he will be bringing them to this Summer s water outings. There were 38 members standing in line to chow down on burgers, dogs, and the outstanding food assortment brought by club members. Thanks to all those bringing the great side dishes and desserts. If you went away hungry at this outing, again it was your own fault. After the big feed there were scattered as evenly as possible 195 tokens in a 40 yards X 60 yards designated area. There were 20 member donated prizes, and 154 tokens for Silver Mercury dimes, 15 tokens for Silver quarters, and 6 tokens for Silver half dollars. When the start signal was given there were 25 water hunters frothing the water. After 1 hour+ of hunting, all but 1 Silver dime token and 1 Silver half dollar token were not recovered. Member donated prizes: Mermaid wooden jigsaw puzzle donated by Jinjer Bigham won by Howie Rosser. $5.00 donated by Charles & Doris Bohuslavicky won by Howie Rosser. $5.00 donated by Charles & Doris Bohuslavicky won by Wally Dick. Some of the higher totals found were: Chuck Marcum 14 Mercury Dimes & 2 Prize tokens. John Hayworth 12 Mercury Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, 1 Silver Half Dollar, & 1 Prize token. Bill Rouse 12 Mercury Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 2 Prize tokens. Ken Fanning 12 Mercury Dimes & 1 Prize token. Cody Reese 11 Mercury Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 1 Silver Half Dollar. John Hamilton 11 Mercury Dimes & 1 Silver Quarter. Lee Wierzchowski 11 Mercury Dimes & 2 Prize tokens. Wally Dick 5 Mercury Dimes, 4 Silver Quarters, & 2 Prize tokens. David Morris 11 Mercury Dimes. Howie Rosser 8 Mercury Dimes & 2 Prize tokens. Again, one of the main reasons for this type of outing, besides the food of course, is to give non-water hunting members a chance to try their hand at it. Also, the fun and fellowship of being with people that enjoy the same hobby. Again, if you missed this outing, you missed a great one. Don t miss the next one! 6

9 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 9 - Community Service - Kelly B Todd Cerebral -Palsy Kids Walk/Hunt The Kelly B Todd Cerebral Palsy and Neuro- Muscular Center is a non-profit organization with a center located in Muskogee. The Center has delivered physical therapy to children and young adults with physical challenges in the Muskogee area at no cost to the families for 40 years. The biggest fund raiser of the year is the Kelly B Todd Walk and is to be held at Civitan Park on the east side of Muskogee across the street from the Oklahoma School for the Blind on Gibson Street on Saturday Sept 12th. It is open to the public at no cost. This is a day full of fun activities including games, food, door prizes, horse back riding, music and lots of exciting things to do. For the last Ten years, volunteers from both the Three Forks Treasure Hunters Club, Indian Territory Treasure Hunters Club and Tulsey Town Treasure Hunters Club have helped organize a hunt for the kids. We have been told by several of the organizers that this is by far the biggest hit of the day and they have once again asked us to help with this year s event. What we need is a lot of volunteers. We need people to help the kids hunt, people to run the prize booth and just people to help promote our hobby. We also need metal detectors for the kids to use during the hunt & junk jewelry for them to find. If you need more information or have any questions please contact Chuck Marcum or Gary Young. We will be setting the hunt field and canopy up at 9:00 a.m. Gary will have more info at the club meetings. We hope to see everyone there. Expect lots of fun & a great and rewarding day!
