6 Contact: Nick Markulin 773-429-4300 ext 384 nmarkulin@brrice.org For grade school kids. The purpose of the camp is to both introduce players to the game and to improve skills to advanced levels. This is achieved through technique training that the player can repeat independently when they leave camp. Through the one-player, one-ball concept, we are able to maximize training time and expose all campers to the full range of technical skills. During a tactical session, each player learns how to function individually, in small groups, and as a member of the team. At the conclusion of each session, players will experience daily competitive tournament matches. We want each player to be comfortable and challenged by the daily program. 15 Contact: Michelle England, Honors English Teacher 773-429-4300 ext. 368 mengland@brrice.org Some people love to write, while others hate to write. Some people seek opportunities to write, while others avoid writing at all costs. When students reach high school, however, they need to write. In order to gain confidence in their writing skills, students need to practice writing, they need to write for a specific audience, and they need to share their writing. This summer, students enrolled in the Brother Rice Writing Camp will practice academic writing skills. Over the course of four days young writers will practice grammar and free writing and focus on creating strong thesis statements. Writers will also share the results of their various writing exercises with their fellow participants. During the camp, students will replace dead verbs with lively, interesting action verbs; explore their imaginations with creative writing prompts; and cultivate their abilities by creating potential thesis statements on topics of their choosing. Examining their own writing samples, students will eliminate to be verbs, eradicate run-ons and fragments as needed, and craft stronger, superior sentences.
