COLUMBUS GIRLS BASKETBALL 10,000 SHOT CLUB June 1, 2018 September 30, 2018 The 10,000 Shot Club is an elite club of basketball players. These players are willing to separate themselves in commitment and dedication to the game. These players understand that hard work is essential in achieving goals, and being able to reach the highest potential. Want to join the club? All you have to do is put in some time during the off-season to improve your game. Shoot 10,000 GAME SHOTS at GAME SPEED using CORRECT FORM (using the Pro Shot Shooting System www.proshotsystem.com) from GAME SPOTS and you will be an improved player. What are game shots? Game shots are different for every player. To be successful, you should start in close to the basket working on proper form to warm up. Once you have established your range (distance from the basket where you can shoot the ball with proper form) you are ready. Any shot you shoot, whether it s while warming up or playing pick-up ball, counts toward those 10,000 shots. ***REMINDER, only GAME SHOTS count towards the 10K goal. Flipping the ball up from underneath the basket and half-court lightning shots are examples of shots that do NOT count.*** Why game speed? You should shoot all of your shots at GAME SPEED because that is what will help make you a better player during games. Shooting GAME SPEED shots will prepare you for game situations when the time comes. Standing around and playing horse with a friend may be fun, but really isn t helping you come game time. Do Free Throws count? Absolutely! Ideally free throws will consist of approximately 25% of your shots taken. When you shoot shots at game speed for a long period of time, you will need to rest. Free throws are a great way to rest during a workout. High School athletes will record 1000 FT s throughout the season on the team Google document so you are already 10% of the way to 10,000. Can I just guess how many shots I shoot? The idea behind the 10,000 Shot Club is to give you, the player, the confidence and knowledge that you deserve to win because you put in time to improve your game. You must be true to yourself and be honest about what you want to get out of doing this. Using a notebook to record your shots throughout the workout is a suggestion.
Does my parent have to watch me shoot every shot? Absolutely not! We are on an honor system. By signing the Member Contract, your parent is confirming that to the best of their knowledge you completed your shooting workouts. If they want to help that is great but not required. What do I get for making the club? Turn in all necessary paperwork to Coach Dworak before October 1, 2018. This includes totaling up all of your shots, signing the Member Contract, and making sure that all shots have been verified by a parent/guardian. Members will then receive a 10,000 Shot Club T-shirt, names will be put on 10,000 Shot Club board at school, and your name and picture will also appear on the Columbus Lady Cardinals Basketball website stating you are a member of the 10,000 Shot Club. FACT #2: More players have poor shooting strokes and detrimental flaws today, than they ever have in the past. This is primarily because kids start playing at such an early age and they try to mimic NBA players before they are ready. The sad truth is that these bad shooting habits stick with them. FACT #3: Proper shooting form is the #1 most important skill for players to master FACT #4: A team with just a couple of good shooters on the floor will make your offense infinitely more dangerous and actually give your team more lay ups. Good shooters stretch out the defense and can dramatically improve your team offense. FACT #5: A small improvement in your teams shooting percentage, will allow you to win more games. Simple math tells us that teams with high shooting percentages tend to win a lot of games.
