XXXVII COPA DE LA MERCÈ WORLD CUP F2D COMBAT Pilots from Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Great Britain, Italy, France, Portugal and of course Spain (Canary, Madrid, Toledo, Valladolid, Orense and Barcelona), EIGHT countries, including some of the top aero modelers, have competed this year in our F2D World Cup held by our Club RACBSA in Barcelona. D. Manuel Roca, of the Spanish Air Federation, came from Cordoba to be present at the event, as well as D. Eladi Lozano, Vice-president of the FAC, Catalan Air Federation. THURSDAY, 4th JULY The last jobs were finished on Thursday: mowing the grass of the flying site, preparing the workshop, mounting the carps, trophies, finalizing the papers for the judges almost ready to start! FRIDAY, 5th JULY The first pilots arrived at the flying site and practice and preparation took place throughout the whole of the day. There was much activity on Montjuic and the atmosphere was electric.
For this edition we were privileged to enlist Vernon Hunt and Pavol Barbaric, both experienced judges and this was without doubt a high point for the judging of the competition. Registrations were closed late on Friday night. We registered 31 pilots, a good number! SATURDAY, 6th JULY The draw, briefing, group picture and first combats started early in the morning and we were lucky to have a lovely sunny day in Montjuic. All went well and the new rules about stop at will worked without a problem for the pilots, with the competition going at an excellent pace. OLGA KUDINOVA (UKR) beat JOSE LOPEZ (ESP). Saturday night dinner As usual we organized a group dinner. This year 41 of us went to an Argentinian restaurant with an excellent meat and fish buffet at a good Price. SUNDAY 7th JULY Heat by heat we arrive at the finals. The semifinals took place between two Spanish pilots, Manuel Mateo and Mario Rioja, with Mario Rioja winning. In the final Pavel Erenklintsev beat Olga Kudinova who was DQ d because her shutoff didn t work after a fly-away. So, at the podium First place for Pavel Ereklintsev, Second place for Olga Kudinova and Third place for Mario Rioja. The Spanish guys were fighting for the podium until the end, not bad for the Spanish team. CONCLUSION The weather was quite hot during the competition we are thinking of putting in external showers to refresh pilots and helpers next year! We had a pretty high level in combats and a very friendly relationship betwen pilots. Finally, a big thank you to all the people who were working for the organization, thanks to the Judges team, especially to Vernon and Pavol, and thanks to our sponsors who help us every year with the financial side of the competition.
