She enters the week with 515 rejections and the potential of breaking a record which has stood for a quarter of a century. The current high mark is 517 by Dawn McDougall from 1988-91. Sandbothe's assault on the OSU Record Books includes a Top-20 standing in eight additional categories. The complete list includes: 515 total blocks (2nd), 102 solo blocks (2nd), 1.14 blocks/set (2nd), 413 block assists (3rd),.306 attack percentage (6th), 1,708.5 points (11th), 1,329 kills (12th), 2.996 attack attempts (15th) and 3.78 points/set (16th). *Complete Career Records Watch can be found on Page 7. HISTORY WITH THE BADGERS Wisconsin owns a 39-35 advantage in the tightly-contested all-time series between two storied programs. The Badgers came out on top earlier this season with a win in Madison on Sept. 23 while the Buckeyes lead 17-16 in 33 meetings inside St. John Arena. VALERIA LEÓN - OHIO STATE S ALL-TIME DIGS QUEEN With her first dig of the night against Michigan State on Oct. 22, Valeria León took sole possession of the Ohio State school record for career digs. Her 1,573rd dig set the new all-time mark and she enters this week with 1,623 to her name. The Buckeye libero also has control of the best digs per set average in school history, putting up 3.48 per set since arriving at Ohio State in 2013. NATIONAL RANKINGS Ohio State sits at No. 22 in this week s AVCA Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes are one of seven Big Ten teams ranked in the Top-25 while Illinois, Purdue and Iowa are all receiving votes as well. The Big Ten Conference combined for an overall nonconference record of 122-36 (.772). Ohio State has been nationally ranked for 36 consecutive weeks, a streak dating back to Oct. 13, 2014. 2016 BIG TEN STANDINGS As of Oct. 31 Big Ten Overall TEAM W-L Pct. W-L Pct. MILESTONES APPROACHING Wednesday night marks the 300th match for Ohio State under the leadership of head coach Geoff Carlston. The Carlston-led Buckeyes have accumulated an overall record of 186-113 (.622) since his arrival in 2008. He needs just five more wins to surpass Sue Collins (1973-79) for the second most wins in program history. In addition, Ohio State has racked up 974 victories overall since 1971 with an all-time winning percentage of.640 (974-548). That mark includes a 314-133 (.702)( ledger inside St. John Arena. ANOTHER RANKED FOE DOWNED BY OSU The Buckeyes swept by 11th-ranked Michigan State on Oct. 22, representing Ohio State s third victory over a Top-25 team in 2016. Then-No. 16 Texas A&M and top-ranked Nebraska also fell victim to Buckeye wins. SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE Valeria León has been named one of 30 candidates nationwide for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. The 30 women s volleyball candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season. AWARDS, AWARDS & MORE AWARDS Ohio State welcomed in a cavalcade of awards Oct. 3-5, including not one, but two, National Player of the Week recognitions. The week began with Taylor Sandbothe and Valeria León earning Big Ten Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday. The next day brought AVCA National Player of the Week distinction for Sandbothe. Taylor Hughes then picked up a National Player of the Week accolade of her own, selected as such by espnw. Eleven different Buckeyes have now earned National Player of the Week laurels a total of 13 times since 1994.This marks the third consecutive season Ohio State has been represented at least once. NATIONAL TELEVISION EXPOSURE Wednesday s match vs. Wisconsin is one of at least a half dozen Buckeye matches broadcast on national television this season. In addition to the ESPN2 broadcast in Ann Arbor earlier this season, Ohio State is also being featured on Big Ten Network a minimum of five times.
