Aye, It s that time again.. WELCOME TO THE CALEDONIA CUP 2018 Good Day Coaches, Managers, Players and Parents, welcome to the 2 nd annual Caledonia Cup. We are looking forward to hosting the Scottish United sanctioned tournament at the Edmonton Scottish Society fields. We don t consider the Caledonia Cup a tournament as much as a soccer event!!! We believe we are different to most tournaments and offer more providing the entire family with a fun-packed weekend mixed in with some soccer our private facility allows us to host families in a safe environment during and between games with other activities along the way. Please see some helpful information below. SEE YOU ON THE PITCH!!! Location All games will be played at the Edmonton Scottish Society fields, 3105 101 st SW, T6X 1A1, Edmonton. Access the fields from 101 Street
World Cup 2018 It turns out that there is another tournament starting on June 14, although it s not as big or important as the Caledonia Cup, we will be showing live games from the FIFA World Cup with Breakfast. Join us for the action on Saturday and Sunday at the Clubhouse!!!
Parking Although we have parking on site, this tournament has doubled in size and we have limited space. We ask all teams to carpool as much as possible, we have plenty of room for spectators so don t forget Nan and Grandad, but just try to bring Mum s minivan instead of Dad s mid-life crisis 2-seater sports car!! We will have people assisting with parking cars to maximize available spots, so please be patient and polite. Fields We believe our fields are some of the best in the city and we spend a lot of money looking after them, please help us to protect the grass by keeping dynamic warm ups in green spaces and warming up keepers outside the penalty areas NO DOGS ON SITE (except service animals) We do have a very grumpy Scottish Grounds Keeper with a ginger beard!!! The fields are his pride and joy so keep Willie happy Food and Beverage We will have plenty of food and beverage options on site for purchase, BBQ, Hot breakfast and lots of snacks and SLURPEES available. Bar!!! YES!!! We have a full bar onsite, perfect for a cold beer in the sun, glass of wine in the evening or a shot of whiskey after watching your child miss a crucial penalty. We are fully AGLC licensed with bar staff, children are allowed in the bar area and all AGLC rules apply. Please drink responsibly - do not drink and drive.
Coaches Ceilidh (Coaches meeting) On the Friday evening we invite all the coaches and managers to the Clubhouse for a get-together and a few drinks. This is a fun event just for the coaches and managers to meet over some complimentary snacks and beverages to renew rivalries, meet new coaches, complain about referees and talk about how much better the Caledonia Cup is than all the other tournaments. Onsite Construction As you may be aware, the Edmonton Scottish Society recently started a project to transform the complex by constructing the Edmonton Soccer Dome. This state-of-the-art indoor, multi-purpose facility is set to open late this summer and will be Edmonton s first full-sized indoor soccer field as well as Canada s largest sports dome. During the tournament, some of the facility will be a designated construction area, please keep the wee ones away from these areas and follow the rules and signage listed onsite.
Referees One thing is for sure. The referees will make mistakes!!! So please don t be that person that gets ejected from a U10 soccer game, years from now you will look back and be embarrassed. Unlike other tournaments we encourage our referees to have a dialog and rapport with the coaches, but it must be a respectful 2-way street, and not everyone will agree. Please remind your parents that we encourage cheering and enjoying the game, however only parents with a UEFA B license will be able to verbally abuse the referee over game calls.
Medals and trophies Each group will be awarded a Gold, Sliver and a Bronze Medal after the final match. Each group will also have a golden boot trophy for the player who scores the most goals in that group. The winning team will be awarded the ENORMOUS CALEDONIA CUP trophy for pictures (not to keep), all winning teams will have their name added to the trophy. Penalty Shoot Out Competition On the Saturday of the tournament we will be hosting our very popular Penalty Shootout competition, this will take place at lunchtime during a 90 min game blackout. This year we have some amazing prizes for the top shooters including ipads, new bikes and more There are 3 separate co-ed divisions. U9/U10, U11 and U12. - Entry fee is $5 per player - Only players competing at the tournament will be allowed to enter - Players will be whittled down to the top 5 to enter the final round - REGISTRATION DETAILS TO FOLLOW
