Royals vs. O s The Royals have won a pair of one-run decisions and a win today would give KC its first regular season 3-game sweep of the Orioles since the 2000 season...the Royals more recently swept four straight from the O s, but that was in the 2014 ALCS...Kansas City trails the all-time series by a 210-267 margin...the Royals have a 119-123 deficit all-time in Kansas City, but a 112-106 advantage in Kauffman Stadium. ANOTHER ONE-RUN TRIUMPH--The Royals iced their second straight series victory with a 4-3 nailbiter over the Orioles here last night, Kansas City s fifth win in its last six games...brandon Moss provided the heroics last night, breaking a 3-3 deadlock with his sixth homer, second in as many night, lining a shot into the rightfield bleachers to open the sixth inning...from there the KC bullpen took over, retiring all nine Orioles it faced over the final 3.0 frames to secure the win...seth Maness, who made his return to the Majors after undergoing an elbow procedure last year, earned the win despite allowing the game-tying run in the sixth...nate Karns was once again outstanding in a start, working 5.0 innings allowing two run on five hits with a career-high 12 strikeouts...he became the first Royal ever to fan at least 12 hitters in 5.0 innings of work...offensively, Kansas City collected at least one hit in every inning, finishing the night with a dozen... Eric Hosmer was on base in all four plate appearances, with two hits and two walks, while Alcides Escobar, Mike Moustakas and Jorge Soler also had two hits each...a win today would give the Royals their second 3-game sweep of the year, also taking all three here vs. the Angels in early-april. THINK PINK--All clubs in Major League Baseball are adorned in pink this weekend to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness while Mother s Day is celebrated... all uniforms have pink features, including shoes, wristbands, caps and uniform numbers...the bases are marked with the Breast Cancer Awareness logo and players are allowed to swing pink bats...kansas City is coming off of a 5-4 Mother s Day loss last year in Cleveland...the last Mom s Day win for the Royals was in Seattle in 2014, a 9-7 triumph over the M s...kc has not won in Kauffman Stadium on Mother s Day since 2008, when Brian Bannister defeated these Baltimore Orioles with 8.0 innings of two-hit ball in a 4-0 victory...the Royals have only played two home games on this holiday since (2011 and 2013). K-K-K-K-K-KARNS--Nate Karns continued his recent run of strikeout success with a career-best dozen last night, just five days after matching his previous career high with 10 in St. Pete on Monday night...karns became the first Royal ever to record 12 K s in just 5.0 innings of work, as his only non-strikeout outs last night were fly balls in the first and third inning and a groundout in the fourth...he s the sixth Royal to fan at least 10 in consecutive starts, the most recent the late Yordano Ventura in 2015. MINOR HAVING MAJOR IMPACT--Southpaw Mike Minor entered 2017 with 111 big league appearances under his belt, 110 of which were as a starter...after missing all of last year due to shoulder surgery, the 29-year old is being used in a relief role this season and seems to be getting the hang of it...he retired all six Orioles he faced last night and has not allowed a run in his last four appearances, totaling 7.2 innings, with two hits and 11 K s...he s been nearly as superb in his last eight outings, giving up just one earned run in 14.2 frames for a 0.61 ERA, fanning 16 and holding opponents to a.143 average (7-for-49). THE BEST WITH THE LEATHER--Kansas City has committed only one error in its last nine games and enters today atop the Major League defensive charts with only 10 errors, tying Minnesota...Kansas City made just one error in its first 15 games, but while committing nine in the last 21, it still remains atop of MLB. ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing right-hander compiled a 38-31 during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch.
