www.lvrr.org Established 1993 March/April 2016 Newsletter Vol. 32 Issue 2 President s Message Once again the club finds itself in a very hectic period of planning our spring and summer races. Race committees have been active for months planning the 14 races that make up our spring and summer schedule. The Ice Scraper Series was run in very favorable weather conditions this year, and it was very pleasing to watch 400 runners enjoying post-race hot chocolate and bagels. Someone remarked while viewing the scene, What a fine use for our clubhouse. This is an election year and there are two openings for board positions. There are instructions for those interested further in the newsletter. The two departing board members are Bob Shively and Nina Skinner. Bob served for many years on the board and was always a voice of reason. He will continue to be Co-Race Director for the St. Luke s Half & 5K. Nina acted as our secretary and a more accurate recorder of discussions and decisions could not be found. The next event for your club is the Emmaus 4 Miler. This year marks the 39th running of the Emmaus event. If you haven t yet registered, get on it. This race produces the best post-race breakfast of any event around, not to mention showers and indoor pre-race shelter. The club hosted the movie Caballo Blanko, a film adapted from Chris McDougal s book, Born to Run. The event was held at the Steel Stacks Theater in Bethlehem to a full house. There will also be a LVRR group night at PPL Arena to 1 watch the home town Phantoms play hockey. Don t forget about the online club store where any number of LVRR gear may be purchased. The club makes no money on the sales but just wants to get our name out... It has been written many times but read the back of your race shirts and support the people who make it possible for the races to take place. Skip the big box stores or shopping online, no matter how inviting it may seem. As always, Good Running, Neal

LVRR had a table set up outside the theater but there was not much interest. Approx. 5060 people paid day-of to see the film. Club received a $200 kickback from the film. 2. Phantoms tickets: Based on the slow sales, 10 tickets were freed up to the public. That leaves 14 remaining tickets to be sold between now and Feb. 23rd. 3. 2. A few years ago LVRR was notified of unclaimed funds totaling $3,000 which we have since collected. The PA State Treasurer recently mailed us that we have more unclaimed funds coming to us, amounts currently unknown. The funds are from Active Network from December 2006 and October 2009. Neal and Leslie have completed the required paperwork to proceed with collecting the funds. 3. Loretta has not received confirmation back from Allentown Parks Dept. regarding whether or not the February and March Ice Scraper race course is still okay to use. Neal will check with the Parks Dept in the morning. 4. Currently the Emmaus 4 Miler has 135 registered runners. Mugs for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards have been ordered.
