World Youth Championships 2018: Bulletin 4 WORLD BOWLING and the Detroit Sports Commission proudly present the World Youth Championships 2018 Bulletin No. 4 for WORLD BOWLING member federations. The World Youth Championships 2018 will be hosted by World Bowling, the Detroit Sports Commission and Thunderbowl Lanes. Please pay attention to the deadlines presented in this bulletin, chapter 6. It may not be possible for federations to enter the championships not meeting the entry deadline. In this bulletin the following items are presented: 1. Preliminary Schedule 2. Hotel 3. Various Facilities and Services Website Various information related to the WYC 2018 will be available at worldbowling.org no later than January 1, 2018 including all necessary information. Press Area One meeting room will be used for the press. Space will be provided for approximately 40 press officials. All press officials will be connected through a wireless network to access the internet at no cost. Press officials are expected bring their own laptops. A printer will be available. Press Conferences Sufficient space for press conferences will be provided after the conclusion of each discipline and/or when necessary. Result Services The latest technology will be in use both for the press officials and for accumulation and presentation of scores and standings. Scores will be shown in the venue on appropriate display units. Online results will be available as well. Bus Services All delegations of the championships staying in the host hotel will be met in the Detroit International Airport. Similar service will be provided for departures. Similar service on a scheduled basis will be available between the host hotel and Thunderbowl Lanes. Equipment Storage Ball Park in the bowling center will be used to store the equipment. A secure system for storage will be in place. There will be an easy and short distance from Ball Park to the lanes.
Playing Rules/Slow bowling The WYC rules are located in Chapters 4 and 6 of the World Bowling Statutes, located on www.worldbowling.org. Please ensure that your coaches are aware of these rules. Slow bowling will be enforced. There is an instructional video on the World Bowling website, please ensure that your coaches have reviewed this procedure with your athletes. Lane pattern As of January 1, 2016 only one pattern will be used for all disciplines in the championship. The lane pattern bank to be used is Bank 40. The selected pattern within that Bank will be announced at the Team Managers meeting July 25, 2017. Scoring system As of January 1, 2018 new rules passed by the 2017 Congress went into effect. One such rule was the use of the modified current frame scoring system at the 2018 WYC. World Bowling has since determined that the scoring system in use at the host center, Thunderbowl Lanes, cannot be synced with the new scoring system; the result would be that scoring by hand would be required. The World Bowling Executive Board has amended the test use of the modified scoring system, by removing its use at the 2018 WYC, and requiring its use at the 2019 World Junior Championship. Thus, the scoring system to be used at the 2018 WYC shall be the traditional system that has historically been used. Team Manager designation During the Championships the registration of Line up for each discipline must be done online. You must nominate at least one of your officials as Team Manager in Form E because our system will create a Password to the Team Manager. If you want anyone else to do the Lineup registration you can of course share the login information with that person in your team. Program roster A program book will be published for the WYC. If Form E is not submitted by July 6, 2018 (the end of this week), then the names of your delegation may not appear in the book. Pro-Am In order to drive media and public awareness in the Detroit area a Pro-Am will be held July 25 at 10:00 to 12:00; unofficial practice lanes may not be available during this time. We will need between 25 and 50 athletes volunteering to participate, in uniform. Participating athletes will bowl on the Championship lanes, although not the Championship lane condition. They will also receive a thank-you gift from World Bowling. A Request to Participate Form is attached to this Bulletin; if any of your athletes have interest please complete the Participation Form and return to ceo@worldbowling.org by July 17. Athlete Luncheon In order to drive media and public awareness in the Detroit area a luncheon will be held July 26 at 11:00 to 12:00 in the bowling center. We will need 20 athletes volunteering to participate, in uniform. Participating athletes will receive lunch, and a thank-you gift from World Bowling. Detroit Tigers The Detroit Sports Commission has negotiated a block of seats with the Detroit Tigers Major League Baseball team for their game on July 31 against the Cincinnati Reds. An optional tour
will be available from the headquarters hotel to the baseball stadium and return to the hotel that night. Buses will leave from the Headquarters Hotel to the baseball stadium, and return after the game. The cost is $50 per person, including game admission and transportation. An Interest in Participation is attached to this Bulletin; this is open to any athlete, coach, administrator or supporter. Victory Banquet The victory banquet will be held at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, one of the top ten museums in the USA. There is a very large collection of automobiles along with the history of the development of many innovations throughout history. You may see more at: https://www.thehenryford.org/ 5. Various Fees WYC 2018 Entry Fee The WYC 2018 entry fee is USD 300. This fee is payable for all delegations, including players, coaches, managers, head of delegations and other officials connected to each team. WYC 2018 Supporters Fee The WYC 2018 Supporter fee is USD 175. Included in the Supporter fee is - transportation to/from Detroit International Airport to the official hotel - transportation to/from official hotel bowling center - Victory Banquet - entrance to bowling center - there will be a daily entrance fee of $10-12 for the bowling center, only a limited capacity will be allowed at any one time Registered Supporters will be assured of entry - special gift Prepayment of Fees All fees must be prepaid and payment is to be received by WORLD BOWLING on or before June 15, 2018. You may choose to pay cash onsite, but this must be approved by World Bowling. At this date we have ten countries that have not paid, or made arrangements to pay in Detroit. It is preferred that payments are done by card.
