RULES THE JAM, January 27-28, 2018 Game Time: 3 cross-ice rinks with hard boards separating each rink 30 minute games two 15 minute halves intermediate/blue divisions 2 half-ice rinks with hard boards separating each rink 36 minute games two 18 minute halves advanced division Running clock The buzzer sounds every 90 seconds for line changes Face-off will occur at the beginning of each period. Teams will switch sides each period The ice will be cut approximately every two hours Brackets and Playoffs (Advanced) Red and Advanced-Intermediate Pink Divisions o All players will receive a participation gift. Team managers will be given one for each player on the roster at team check-in prior to first game o Half ice games o 6-team brackets Each team in a 6-team bracket will play 4 round-robin games within its bracket; a team will not play every team in its bracket o Semi-Finals: 1st place team from one bracket vs. the 2nd place team from other bracket and vice-versa A Championship Trophy and Runners-up Trophy will be awarded on the ice (Intermediate) White Division o All players will receive a participation gift. Team managers will be given one for each player on the roster at team check-in prior to first game o Cross ice games o Three 5-team brackets o Each team will play the other teams in bracket once 4 round robin games o 1 st place team in each bracket and one wildcard will advance to Semi-finals.
A Championship and Runners-up Trophy will be awarded on the ice (Novice) Blue Minor and Blue Major Divisions o All players will receive a participation gift. Team managers will be given one for each player on the roster at team check-in prior to first game o Cross ice games o 5-team or 6-team brackets o 5-team brackets: each team will play the other teams in the bracket once 4 round robin games o 6-team brackets Each team in a 6-team bracket will play 4 round-robin games within its bracket; a team will not play every team in its bracket o Semi-Finals: 1st place team from one bracket vs. the 2nd place team from other bracket and vice-versa A Championship Trophy and Runners-up Trophy will be awarded on the ice A Championship Trophy and Runners-up Trophy will be awarded on the ice Goaltenders: Intermediate nets will be used in all divisions A goaltender in full goalie gear is required to guard the nets and will have full goalie privileges. When the goalie freezes the puck, or after a goal, the team that shot/scored will retreat to mid ice; the advancing team will receive the puck and play will resume; clock will run Teams may rotate goaltenders or use the same player in net throughout the tournament in all divisions Pulling a goalie: A team may pull its goaltender in the final period with 3 minutes remaining in the final period o It is not permitted to pull a goaltender prior to this time in the game o If the other team scores into the empty net, the team may put its goaltender back in net if they choose.
Penalties: When a penalty is called, the offending player will be removed from play and must immediately skate to his/her bench. o Play will continue without substitution for the offending player until the next buzzer, when a new 4-player unit takes the ice o Coaches will use the infraction for instructional purposes, informing the offending player regarding the infraction and how not to repeat it o The child will be eligible to return for his/her next shift o In the rare instance that two penalties occur from one team during a shift, a substitute player may go on the ice for the second player returning to the bench; play will never be less than 3-on-4 (or 3-on-3 if both teams have multiple penalties) o If a player takes repeated penalties or attempts to injure another player, he/she may be removed from the tournament. The on-ice official, in conjunction with the tournament director, will have final judgment Scoring Total score will be kept, however o Total score will not appear on portable rink scoreboards if the differential is greater than 7 goals o No score will be entered in the standings beyond + 7 goal differential o Any forfeited game will be recorded as a 3-0 score. No individual stats will be kept Breakdown o Win 2 points o Tie 1 point o Loss 0 points No overtime or shootouts in round-robin or consolation games. Tournament Tie Breakers: 1. Most wins 2. Head to Head record (not relevant for this event where teams tied in points are in different brackets) 3. Goal Differential a. The maximum goal differential per game is +/- 7 b. Any forfeited game will be recorded as a 3-0 score. 4. Fewest Goals Against 5. Most Goals For
6. Team that registered first 7. Flip of the coin. In the case of more than two teams involved in a tie-breaker situation, the entire set of tiebreakers will be used to determine the first team to be eliminated. Then the entire tie-breaking protocol will be used with the remaining two teams to again eliminate the team losing via tiebreakers. If there are more than 3 teams tied, the entire protocol will be used again to eliminate teams until there are 2 teams remaining. o Of those two teams one will be eliminated via the tie-breakers In each instance, the entire tie-breaking protocol will be used, beginning with point 1. Line Changes Line changes if a team would find itself in a line change situation where not all four players are coming off the ice to be replaced by another 4-player unit, the player(s) left on the ice must come back to the bench to tag up before continuing play Jersey Colors the team listed first on the schedule will be home team. We will use NHL rules and the home team will wear dark jerseys o If a team only has one set of jerseys, the other team will wear the opposite of what the one-set team has (light or dark) o If both teams have only one set of jerseys, we will make-do for that game o If both teams have the exact same color, we will really have to make the best of it, just like teams do for scrimmages at the end of practice! Game Supervision Each team will be required to have two coaches on the bench at all times o We do not permit more than three coaches on the bench
o Teams with more than three coaches should plan a rotation so that each coach may be on the bench for at least one game Penguins Rinks will provide game officials and scorekeepers/clock operator for all games Behavior We expect coaches to conduct themselves with sportsmanship and dignity in this tournament o Coaches may need to speak loudly to be heard during a game they do NOT need to yell at kids EVER Not their players; not the other team s players Coaches should treat other coaches and the young people officiating the games with professionalism, fraternal respect and personal civility o Think of the example you are setting for the children on your bench Team Managers are responsible for monitoring the behavior, emotions and language of their team parents and remind them of the example they are setting Hockey is an emotional game but we will exercise ZERO TOLERANCE for unsportsmanlike and un-civil behavior from coaches, players and fans People behaving in a disruptive, vulgar or aggressive manner will be told to leave the building Rostering for More than One Team Players rostered in the Red Division may only play in the Red Division o Red Division players are not permitted to play down in the Pink, White or Blue Divisions o A player in the Red Division may play on two teams in the Red Division Player must declare his/her primary team at the start of the tournament in the event the two teams play each other No replacement may be made for the player on the team that is not his/her declared primary team o Goaltenders see further below
Players in the Pink, White and the Blue Divisions may be rostered in two divisions that are adjacent to one another (for example Pink-White, White-Blue Major, Blue Major-Blue Minor) ONLY for the purpose of fielding enough players to have a complete roster for each team in each Division. No player may be dual-rostered in non-adjacent divisions (for example, White - Blue Minor or Pink - Blue Major) o No roster with dual-rostered players should exceed 12 players o The Tournament Director must be informed in advance and approve the dual rostering o Players dual rostered must declare a primary team at the start of the tournament and play for the primary team in the event both teams are scheduled at the same time Goaltenders may be rostered and play on more than one team within the same Division and also within two adjoining Divisions o Example: one goalie may play on a Pink Division and Red Division Team, but not on a White and Red Division team o If a goalie plays on two teams within one division he/she must declare a primary team in the event the two teams play each other Scheduling and players rostered on more than one team o The schedule is complete and no accommodation can be made for teams sharing a rostered player that are scheduled at the same time o The dual rostered player must play for his/her declared primary team if both teams are scheduled at the same time Be sure to have a rostered player that can put on goalie gear and go in net in this instance, if the dual rostered player is a goalie If the dual-rostered player is not a goalie, the team that is not the player s declared primary team may not fill that players roster spot for that game Warm-ups & Timeouts There will be a 1-minute skating warm-up before games (no pucks) There are no time-outs except for Injury Timeouts Injury Timeouts
If there is an injury on the ice the person officiating that rink will alert the timekeeper Timekeeper will hit the buzzer two times to indicate an injury The UPMC Trainer will be radioed to the appropriate rink Players on all rinks will take a knee until the situation is resolved Playoff games tied at the end of regulation If a Playoff game is tied at the end of regulation there will be a shootout o Shootout will consist of 3 players for each team o Visiting team shoots first o If the score remains tied after the first 3 shooters for each team, additional players will shoot until a winner is determined. o Additional rounds are not sudden death Example: both shooter # 4 s do not score; Visiting shooter # 5 shoots and scores; Home team shooter # 5 will have an opportunity to shoot and tie the score o No player may repeat until all players have shot once.
