Match report of Whitehawk v Hemel Hempstead Town by Allan Mitchell A comprehensive win at bottom of the table Whitehawk saw the Tudors climb into sixth place, just three points off the top spot, with a game in hand. It was a bitterly cold day down in Brighton at the TerraPura Stadium which sits on the side of a hill and with scaffolding covering one end it looks very much like a ground that is work in progress. Hemel didn t waste any time getting their noses in front, taking the lead within the first minute. David Moyo s shot was parried by rookie keeper, Jordan Hawkins into the path of Will Hoskins who gleefully fired home at the far post for his first goal for The Tudors. It was a nervy start by the Hawk s academy goalminder, who had to step in at the last minute due to an injury to their usual No1. Hawkins made up for this early mistake, just moments later saving well with his feet from Alex Osborn, the loose ball was driven just wide by Scott Shulton. Hemel continued to pour forward and looked to have added a second when James Kaloczi headed home from a Parkes corner but the referee saw a push and disallowed the goal. David Moyo then had a decent header well saved and the same player saw his shot parried again by Hawkins who was now rising to the challenge. He was easily the busiest of the two keepers with Laurie Walker doing well to keep himself warm at the other end. Hemel got the second goal their efforts deserved after the half hour mark when the excellent Alex Osborn broke down the right and crossed to Kaloczi who headed home unchallenged. The second half saw Whitehawk look to step up their efforts somewhat but they created little threat and went further behind on 50 minutes when Spencer McCall and Jordan Parkes combined well on the edge of the box, the Tudors skipper slipped Will Hoskins in and he tucked the ball past the helpless Hawkins for his second of the game. The goal came at a bit of a cost though as McCall needed some attention after getting clattered in the build up and he had to be replaced by Matt Campbell-Mhlope. McCall s injury doesn t appear to be too serious thankfully, the diminutive midfielder suffering a dead leg. David Moyo looks like he is getting somewhere near full match fitness after his long layoff and he led the line well, on another day he could have had a hatrick. He broke clear of Whitehawk s weary backline just after the hour mark and looked certain to score but it was deflected wide by a desperate last second block by a back peddling defender.

Hemel got the fourth on 69 minutes when a lovely move saw Scott Shulton hit a superb cross field ball to Kaloczi who drove down the right and set up Campbell-Mhlope, who controlled the ball first time, cut inside and fired powerfully home from just inside six yard box to open his account with the Tudors. Two minutes later Alex Osborn got the goal he deserved when he smashed the ball in from the edge of the area, leaving Hawkins no chance, capping an excellent Man of Match display against his former team. Moyo then had a chance to make it six but his shot from six yards out hit the underside of the bar and bounced away, proving that it just wasn t his day. Hemel manager Dean Brennan won t be too bothered though, with the striker putting himself in the right places and it will surely only be a matter of time before one of these chances goes in. In the end a comfortable win for the Tudors who were given some excellent backing by the Tudor Army who made the long trip to the South Coast. Next up is a real six pointer against fellow promotion rivals Chelmsford City who sit just one point in front of The Tudors in fifth place. Kick off at 3pm at Vauxhall Road on Saturday 16th December, get along and support Your Town, Your Team it really is a good time to get behind The Tudors in their efforts to rise to the National League Premier. 1: Laurie Walker 2: James Kaloczi (14:Matt Hall) 3: Tom Day 4: Jordan Parkes 5: Kyle Connolly 6: Ismail Yakubu 7: Alex Osborn 8: Scott Shulton 9: David Moyo 10:Will Hoskins 11: Spencer McCall(15:Matt Campbell-Mhlope) Subs not used 12: Antonio German 16: Jesse Highfield 17: Danny Boness (gk) Tudors Man of the Match: Alex Osborn

HEMEL HEMPSTEAD V CHELMSFORD CITY THIS SATURDAY - A BIG MATCH! There are no mid-week National League South games this week and, due to FA Trophy commitments, just one this coming Saturday 16 December, and what a match it is! Sixth place Hemel Hempstead Town are at home to fifth place Chelmsford City in a match which could see Hemel Hempstead Town go top, second, third, stay sixth, or go seventh, but not fourth or fifth. It is all very straightforward. If we win we go level on points with Dartford who are top and Braintree Town who are second. Hampton & Richmond also have 38 points, but if we win we must go above them. It works like this. Hampton & Richmond have a goal difference of +12 and we have a goal difference of +11. By definition, if we win, that must increase to at least +12, but as we have scored more goals already than Hampton & Richmond 34 to 31 even a 1-0 win puts us above Hampton & Richmond on goals scored. Braintree Town have a goal difference of 13, which is 2 better than ours but they have scored eight more goals than us 42 as compared with 34. Thus any win by three goals or more puts us above Braintree Town, and therefore second. If we win by just two goals, then the goal difference would be the same and we need to score 9 to make our goal difference better than Braintree Town. Thus a 9-7 win, or a 10 8 win, or whatever will put us above Braintree Town even if we only win by two goals. Obviously that is a tad unlikely. If we draw, then obviously our goal difference stays the same. As Havant and Waterlooville are in fourth place with a goal difference of 15, and ours is 11, we would draw level on points but our goal difference would be worse. Chelmsford City, our opponents on Saturday, are fifth and obviously if we drew they would also get a point and thus maintain their one point advantage over us. Truro City are seventh and have the same points but an inferior goal difference of 9, but they have scored more goals than us. Thus if we lose by 3 goals or more then we drop below Truro City on goal difference.

Currently they have scored 37 and we have scored 34. Thus if we lost 3 5 then we would have identical points and goal difference and goals scored. If we lose 4 6, or 5 7, or whatever then we will have the same points, the same goal difference, but we will have scored more goals, and thus will remain above Truro. Our opponents Chelmsford City are low scorers they have scored just 29 goals in 20 matches. Thus both Hemel Hempstead Town and Chelmsford City need to improve their goals for, so as to put them at an advantage against other teams if the goal difference is the same. Thus it would suit both teams to be drawing, say 12 12 at half time and to treat the second half as the match. I understand that there may be rules and laws and things about that. If you are still with us, you may have noticed that at the beginning I said that Hemel Hempstead town could go top how so? If we win we will be level on points with Dartford but their goal difference is currently 20 and ours is only 11. If we win 9-0 then we will have exactly the same goal difference and the same goals scored and the same goals against that is 43-23 and so we would be dead level. If we win by at least 9 goals, whilst scoring 10 or more, then we go top as we will have at least as good a goal difference and we would have scored more goals.
