Atlanta Country Club General Manager Georgia Section Marietta, Georgia Principal Contact Mike McCollum, PGA Employment Consultant mmccollum@pgahq.com 706-563-9773 Facility Information Exceptional Golf is the essence of the Atlanta Country Club. Always challenging and exciting, it always rewards a well-played game. Avid golfers among our membership agree: The more you play our championship course, the more you appreciate it. In the early 1960's Atlanta business leader Jim Clay had a dream of building a world class golf course and bringing a PGA tour even to Atlanta. Jim achieved his goal by being the founder of Atlanta Country Club, which formed in 1964 and opened in 1966. Then, in 1967 the ACC began hosting the "Atlanta Classic". This PGA tour event was held annually at ACC for thirty years, except in 1974 when ACC became the site for the inaugural Tournament Players Championship, won by Jack Nicklaus. In addition to our involvement in the professional golf the ACC has hosted many amateur events including the USGA Senior Amateur in 1968 and the USGA Women's Amateur in 1971. The Atlanta Country Club has a rich tradition and history. It is consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in the country. Originally designed by Willard C. Byrd, the course is built adjacent to historic Sope Creek and Confederate paper mill ruins from the Civil War era. These ruins may be viewed from the signature 13 th hole. The membership has demonstrated strong commitment to world-class facilities by funding continuing improvements to the course, construction of a new clubhouse in 2003 and a new state of the art golf course maintenance facility in 2009. Over the years modifications to the course have been made by Jack Nicklaus, Bob Cupp and most recently Mike Riley. The newest changes came in 2001 with the redesign and renovation of all eighteen of the green complexes. Atlanta Country Club, a club of only 450 memberships, is a family-oriented club with a variety of sports and social activities for every member of the family. Club amenities include: four clay and four hard surface tennis courts, an Olympic size swimming pool and a full-service fitness center with a complete range of exercise equipment. The Clubhouse facility is host to a variety of member and special events and includes: ballroom (seats 200), formal dining room (seats 56), men s lounge (seats 44), casual/family dining room (seats 36), main bar (seats 26) and a private meeting room (seats 20).
