WAVERLEY BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION REFEREE SUPERVISOR POSITION DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATION FORM Waverley Basketball Association (WBA) appoints Referee Supervisors to all domestic games played at Waverley Stadium on Sunday to Saturday inclusive, to ensure smooth conduct of the competition. WBA is seeking to appoint Referee Supervisors to positions which have tenure of 12 months from date of appointment. The Referee Supervisors are responsible to the Referee Adviser and General Manager, WBA, and are expected to work closely with the Referee Grade Coordinators, Referee Development Officers, and Victorian Basketball Referees Association Waverley Branch (VBRA Waverley) to ensure efficient running of basketball competitions from an officiating perspective. Remuneration is determined for all shifts.by WBA. A hierarchy showing the appointed positions in relation to the WBA General Manager and the VBRA Waverley Branch Committee is shown below: Role and Responsibilities of Referee Supervisor 1. Inspect all equipment (e.g., basketballs, score boards), and if faulty, report to WBA. 2. Inspect as many games as practicable in the second half to check the number of players on court equals the number of players entered into the Jamware scoring system. 3. Ensure all games are run on time. 4. Ensure the WBA By-Laws are applied consistently. 5. Complete the online roster and pay sheet as soon as practicable. 6. Submit pay sheet to the doorkeeper. 7. Inspect and approve the uniforms of all referees. 8. Ensure referees are not in possession of mobile phones when on court. 9. Ensure any monies collected are secured safely in the Referees Room safe. 1
10. Ensure all valuables belonging to referees are securely stored in the Referees Room lockable drawer. 11. Maintain security of the safe codes and drawer keys at all times and report any potential breaches to VBRA Waverley Branch Committee as soon as practicable. 12. Provide support and encouragement to all referees. 13. Assist the referees in any capacity required during the shift. 14. Move around all courts as much as possible to ensure referee conduct is upheld to a satisfactory level, with disciplinary methods appropriately enforced. 15. Ensure referees perform to their accredited level. 16. Complete Supervisor log on every shift, including details of referee attendance, replacements, external venue appointments and RDO evaluations. 17. Ensure policies of Basketball Victoria and Victorian Basketball Referees Association (VBRA), including uniform policy, are enforced. 18. Maintain consistent discipline standards (including expected attendance rate) of all referees during the shift, and ensure the VBRA Waverley Branch Committee Discipline System is used where appropriate. Record disciplinary issues on the Discipline tab inside the Supervisor Log and issue warnings where appropriate. 19. Set an example to all other referees at all times and be receptive to direction from WBA and VBRA Waverley Branch Committee. 20. In consultation with WBA or VBRA Waverley Branch Committee, assist the Referee Adviser, Referee Grade Coordinators, and Referee Development Officers as required. 21. Required to communicate directly to an RDO appointed to their shift regarding the development of all referees on the shift. 22. In the absence of the Referee Adviser, answer all questions pertaining to officiating and interpretation of the rules. 23. Be in attendance 15 minutes before the start of the first game and remain at the venue until completion of that session of competition. 24. Be flexible in regards to changes in start and finish time of the shift from season to season, and liaise with other Referee Supervisors as required. 25. Collect pays and distribute to each referee at the end of the shift. 26. Close stadium at the end of the shift (if required) by turning off all lights and evaporative cooling, securing all exits, and setting the alarm. 27. Administer policy regarding the distribution and collection of all stadium basketballs. 28. Liaise with WBA and VBRA Waverley Branch Committee on issues or concerns regarding the referee program. 29. Maintain adherence to all requirements and duties as outlined in the WBA supervisors booklet. Mandatory Selection Criteria Current financial membership of VBRA. Hold a current Level 1A or higher referee grading. Sound interpersonal and oral communication skills (including negotiation skills). Good current rule knowledge. 2
Hold a current Working with Children card (if aged 18 years or over at time of application). Desirable Selection Criteria Actively referee at Waverley on a regular basis or prepared to do so if successful. 3
