November 2014 This year s Christmas Party will be on Monday 15th December 7pm 11pm at the Radcliffe Civic Suite. There will be a disco, Elvis tribute, Play Your Cards Right, Supper, Santa and Karaoke! Telephone Marle House on 01254 821 720 to book your ticket! Family Lucy from Norman Road regularly visits her sister Michelle. Their staff support them to meet weekly to go on a healthy walk in Victoria Park, and have a pub lunch every Tuesday. Family is extremely important to Lucy and recently she has been requesting to see her brother, Andrew. Health issues for both of them have meant this hasn't been able to happen, but last week a visit was arranged by their support staff and they met up for a drink in the café at Victoria Park. It was the first time they'd seen each other in over 12 months and they gave each other a big hug on meeting. They both enjoyed the afternoon chatting away and catching up, and have planned to see each other again soon.

Frogtastic Nightclub In October the SPICE group went to the Frogtastic Nightclub. Everyone had a great night! On behalf of Geoff and Delwyn I d just like to say a big thank you for organising our tickets for the frogtastic night we went to in October. We all had a great time and in fact I haven t had so much fun at work for ages, It was real reminder of why I became a support worker all those years ago. The music was great and the singing act was a star, everyone loved her and it s not often we get to support service users to a live gig. Geoff and Delwyn definitely want to go to the Christmas night so I ll be booking soon. We can t wait! Ruth Dodd The next Frogtastic night is Wednesday 3 rd December. Visit http://www.heroesproject.org.uk/initiatives/frogtastic to buy tickets!

Safe home for rabbit We spent a day clearing out the summer house at Lawnswood, so the rabbits can be safe against the local fox. Kath was very helpful, and Sue loved getting her hands on the rubbish. We all managed to dodge the huge spiders by running down the garden when they appeared! New York, New York! Dennis has had a fantastic time on his holiday to New York in USA, visiting the top of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and Central Park. While he visited Madam Tussaud s he had his photo taken with President Obama. He also saw Jersey Boys, Wicked and Mamma Mia. Dennis is already discussing plans for his next trip abroad, mentioning he might fancy going to Australia. He is very thankful to Jill who went with him on this holiday. Meeting Olly Murs Angela at Norman Road watched an Olly Murs tribute act and was completely smitten, especially when he posed for a picture with her. She spent the whole night singing and dancing and loves to tell people about her experience.

Chester Zoo Lucy from Norman Road has been on a day trip to Chester Zoo with staff. The aim was to support Lucy to travel further afield to explore new places, and also to spend longer periods of time in the community. Staff hired a car so she could travel further afield and she was supported by staff to choose where to go. There were a few ups and downs on the trip but it was a big step for Lucy and she is already planning her next day trip in the car. Here is a picture of Lucy at the zoo! Volunteering Information Session We held an information session for people in Rochdale who wanted to find out about volunteering. We looked at what volunteering is and why people choose to volunteer. John said he wanted to use volunteering as a step to getting a paid job, whilst Les said that he wanted to volunteer to stop him from being bored. We also looked at different voluntary opportunities, ranging from working in a charity shop to volunteering with Food Banks, the RSPCA, gardening and many more. If you would like more information on volunteering please contact Jenny Bartlett on 01254 821 751. SPICE The SPICE group enjoyed going back to Salford University to deliver training. Daniel, one of the original members of SPICE, explained that being part of SPICE makes him feel valued and he is glad for the opportunity to tell people how it really is.

Marle House - Tuesday 24 th or Saturday 28th February Warrington - Tuesday 17th February 1pm 4pm For more information or to book your place on the training sessions, please contact Kim Barrett on 01254 821 720
