FADE IN: EXT. MODERN HOUSE - GARDEN - DAY The house is adorned with birthday decoration, regalia, and banners. On the grass, young children scamper after each other screaming and laughing. A SWING hosts three quieter children. DRIVEWAY on the hood of a car sits - (13), still an innocence about her, she wears a short white dress. Wistfully, she gazes across at the children. SWING (9), on the swing pushes to and from. Mike (10), and Sam (8), kick their heels. Have you ever seen a ghost? No. MIKE Sam? You seen one? SAM shakes her head no. David kicks to swing. Mike turns to Sam. (CONT D) I saw one last night. SAM Really? Was it scary? It didn t scare me. MIKE Was it a boy or a girl?

2. It s a girl. She was friendly. We talked. SAM What do you talk to a ghost about? I don t know. I don t remember. MIKE Maybe you were dreaming. SAM Yeah. It happened in your dream and you think it s real but it s not. It feels like a dream but sometimes, it s like it wasn t. SAM I used to dream about ghost chasing me. I got real scared but when I woke up I realized it was just a dream. MIKE Me too. Not just ghost but a lot of scary things. It s just normal. Yeah. SAM Sam looks to the house. David and Mike follow her gaze. HOUSE, 30, pregnant - David's mother, stops on the porch. She waves at the children on the grass. Okay, everybody! It s time! Yeah! CHILDREN Debra turns to David and his friends. (raised voice) David, bring your friends, hon. Debra walks back into the house, the children following her.

3. SWING David jumps off the swing, and the three of them scamper to the house. DRIVEWAY Lilly turns to look at David and his friends - as they walk into the house - she jumps off the hood of the car, dusts her hand and dress. INT. MODERN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY David's on a large sofa - Mike and Sam on either side. Other children stand and kneel around a table - all excited and happy. Through the living-room, a... STAIRCASE on it - Lilly, crossed arms, leaning against the banister. She looks fondly at the children. LIVING-ROOM David looks curious. He quickly turns to Lilly as she gestures - clicking her fingers at him. Hi! (mouthing) David smiles, about to wave back but Lilly... No! (CONT D) (mouthing) David drops his hand, nods gently. (O.S.) (singing) Happy birthday to you! David shifts his attention to the singing VOICE. carries a birthday cake into the living room. A NUMBER 9 CANDLE is alight on top of the cake.

4. JOHN, 30s, David's father, walks beside Debra. He smiles. JOHN/ (singing) Happy birthday to you! The Children start to sing along -- CHILDREN (singing) Happy birthday to you! Everybody but David sings. EVERYBODY (singing) Happy birthday dear David, happy birthday to you! Everybody cheers and applauds. Debra puts the cake on the table and sits by David. John kneels next to Debra with the other children. David brings his hands together, and closes his eyes. A moment. He opens his eyes, blows the candle out - and the children cheer and clap. The children spring up, and grab presents hidden here and there, and present them to a delighted David. Debra looks at David, smiles. She reaches for David's hand, gently lays it on her belly. Your sister wants to wish you a happy birthday, too. (beat) Happy birthday, David! David turns to Debra, curious. He seems to realize something. He shifts his focus to -- STAIRCASE Lilly GASPS - both her eyes shoot wide open - she points a finger at Debra.

5. Lilly slowly DISAPPEARS - turning into a white light - she FLIES fast toward Debra. LIVING-ROOM David follows the light without a blink - the light hits David's hand on Debra's belly... then slowly disappears into Debra's belly. David pulls back his hand - keeps staring at Debra's belly. Debra looks confused, scans David. (CONT D) What s wrong? She just wants to wish you a happy birthday. Why do you look so surprise? David looks up at Debra. Debra's face starts to turn pale. She rolls her eyes and, struggling, slowly stands. John!!! (CONT D) John rushes to her. JOHN Are you okay? David slowly stands. Debra's wide-eyed at David, turns back to John. John, I feel it. Debra breathes faster... (CONT D) (louldy) I FEEL HER. JOHN You re due next month, right? That s what we were told. Debra, angry, SCREAMS -- NOW!!!!!!

6. EXT. MODERN HOUSE - NIGHT SUPER: The night before. Lilly stands next to a mailbox, staring at a window of the house. INT. MODERN HOUSE - S ROOM - NIGHT David, eyes closed, in pajamas, lies on his bed. He slowly opens his eyes, rolls. David looks across to the door, furrowing his brows... in her white dress. She walks pass the corner of David's bed, reaches to him. (softly) Hi! I m... David BOLTS upright and shoves his back up against the wall. Lilly pulls her hand back. (CONT D) You don t have to be scared of me. David pulls the bed-covers a little closer. (CONT D) I am going to be your little sister. Huh? But we don t know whether mom s going to have another kid after me. Lilly looks at David, a kind look in her eyes. (CONT D) Do you think they re going to have another kid... after me? Lilly walks back and forth by the bed, one hand knocks the other while she thinks.

7. (quietly) I don t know. If she s going to have another kid and it s a boy... Lilly fixes David a gaze. (CONT D) Then he s going to be our little bother. And you re going to be our big brother, you ll always be our big brother. David looks confused. (CONT D) And if it s a girl, then she s going to be our little sister. And I ll become just a sister. I mean, just a regular sister. Hmm... Lilly looks up at the ceiling - thumb under her chin, finger on her lips and elbow over on her hand. David cuts in... (CONT D) And... hmm... Stop it! Lilly freezes, rolls her eyes, and then to David... (softly) What? Who are you? Oh, I m sorry. It s NATALIE. But you can call me Lilly. It s shorter and easy. (quietly) Lilly... Lilly moves closer to David, attempts to shake his hand.

8. I thought I ve already introduced myself. My apology. David s quite still - he scans Lilly s hand, and notices... 'S HAND shiny bracelets, mixed colors. looks confused. David cuts in... (CONT D) What s wrong? Is something wrong with my hand? These aren t real. They re my favorites from before I... anyway... David! I m... David. Lilly shifts away from the bed and walks to a window. She leans her back against it. I know. I also know you re in third grade and tomorrow is your birthday. I m thirteen, by the way. I m four years older than you and going to be nine years younger than you after birth. David furrows his eyebrows, confused. He lets go the covers, and moves closer to the edge of his bed. What are you doing here? What do you want? Err... this might sound weird but in order to become human again, we need a... connection. A connection? And you re it, the connection. My connection.

9. I m the connection? Yes. The connection between me and my birth. David hold his gaze on Lilly, curious. (CONT D) People like us... I mean, somebody like us. Not you, me. Somebody like me needs a connection to be born and become a human again. You re not... human? No, not yet. David scans Lilly from head to heel and heel to head. Lilly smirks and rolls her eyes. What are you then? Hmm... a spirit, I think? A ghost? Lilly quotes with her hand... Yes, that s what we re referred to as. David again, hold his gaze on Lilly. (CONT D) You don t believe me? David slowly shakes his head. David shakes again. (CONT D) Have you seen a ghost before? Lilly breathes in, turns away to grab a chair. She places it next to David's bed, sits facing to him.

10. David tries not to blink, follows Lilly. Sure, you didn t... break in? No! I didn't "break in." Wait... Yeah, I think I did. But not as a burglar. I just... Lilly snaps her fingers, SNAP! (CONT D) -- then I m here. You re not scared, are you? David slowly shakes his head again. (CONT D) Good! I kind of knew. I KNEW it. David changes his position to face Lilly. He moves closer, and looks straight at her without blinking. Lilly rolls her eyes, furrows her brows and looks back into David's eyes. A moment later... (screams) AHH!!!!!! Lilly, wide-eyed - STUNNED. As David continues screaming, Lilly forces her eyes closed, covers her ears, opens her mouth, and, leaning forward, lifts her feet up. Hey! Stop!!! INT. MODERN HOUSE - MASTER ROOM - NIGHT John wakes to the screaming VOICE, sits bolt upright up. Debra lies beside him, she also wakes, rubs her eyes. What is it? John pulls the covers off.

11. David! JOHN They rush out of the room to... INT. MODERN HOUSE - OUTSIDE S ROOM - NIGHT John quickly opens the door to David's room, sees... on the bed facing an empty chair. David stops screaming, turns to John and Debra. Lilly slowly removes her hands from her ears, turns to John and Debra as they walk into the room. 'S ROOM Lilly turns to David, gestures an index over her lips. Shush. They can't see me. Whatever you do, DON'T touch mom's belly. John and Debra go to David - Debra next to David, John next to the empty chair. Debra gently brushes David's hair backward. What is it, honey? David holds his gaze on Lilly. Lilly rolls her eyes as John stands next to her. JOHN (to David) You should be in bed, son. John PULLS the chair - Lilly FALLS to the floor. Ow!!! David chuckles. Lilly gets back up, dusts her hands and dress.

12. (CONT D) (softly) Shut up! Lilly starts to notice SOMETHING about Debra. She points her finger at Debra's belly. (CONT D) Look! That s me in there. 'S POV: Debra's belly is translucent, the shape of a baby clearly seen -- follows Lilly's finger - looks at Debra's belly -- 'S POV: Debra's pregnant stomach. turns back to Lilly. A curious look on David's face. He doesn't seem scared at all but he looks kind of exciting, instead. Debra keeps cuddling on David's head. David moves his head aside to peek at John - she follows his gaze to John. John places the chair at the desk, turns round, and walks to the door. Debra gently cuddles on David's left cheek. (softly) Tomorrow s a big day, try to get some sleep, okay sweetie? Debra leans to kiss David on the head and tucks him back in bed. (CONT D) (softly) Good night, hon. (quietly) Night! Debra leaves the room, reaches back inside to the switch.

13. (CONT D) Mom, can you leave the light on, please. Debra pulls the door shut. David sits up, turns to Lilly. (CONT D) Cool! They didn t know you were here. How did you do that? I only meant for you to see. You re my connection, remember? Lilly walks to the window, crosses her arms, leans her back against it. (CONT D) Why did you yell? You scared me. You scared them too. Sorry, I didn t mean to. Lilly lays both hands on the window. It s okay. I m not mad. Did you say, don t touch mom s belly? Yes! Do not touch her belly with your hand. It s important. Why? Because you are the connection between me and my birth. If you touch it, you'll send me in there and mom'll be in labor giving birth to me. So, please, don't touch it until I'm ready. Okay. A moment later...

14. (CONT D) You said you are a... Yeah, and? Can you prove it? Prove it? How? Can you move something... without touching it? I'm not allowed to do things like that. It'll shorten my human years after birth. That mean... you can do it. Lilly stares at David, quiet. A moment later... she shifts away from the window. Fine! It s for your birthday. Lilly walks to the door. As she does... Everything in David's room starts floating up in the air. David looks amazed. He slowly stands and looks around. Lilly stops in front of the door, slowly turns to David as the things float across the room pass David. He shifts his eyes around, picks up his hands to... (CONT D) (softly) Don t touch it! David drops back his hands and smiles. While everything else floats and flies back to where it was, Lilly keeps her eyes staring at a floating -- STORY-BOOK the book hovers slowly toward David - stops in front of him, opens page after page by itself.

15. Lilly smiles. (to himself) Wow! Cool. INT. MODERN HOUSE - OUTSIDE S ROOM - NIGHT Debra walks across the hallway past the closed door of David's room. She hears a VOICE comes from inside David's room. Debra leans against the door, listens... sounds like David talking to someone. (O.S.) (muffled) This is awesome. Debra pushes the door open. 'S POV: David stands on his bed, quickly turns to Debra - the book falls down on the bed. BACK TO SCENE Debra stands by the door, staring at David. (disappointed) David! David quickly hold up a three fingers sign at Debra. Three minutes, mom. Three minutes. I'm just gonna finished the story then go to sleep. Three minutes. David sits down on the bed, picks up the book and pretends to read with his mouth. Debra takes a quick breath and mimics David's sign. Three minutes. Good night! Night, mom. I love you! (softly) Love you, sweetie.

16. Debra pulls the door to close as David crawls up in bed. 'S ROOM Lilly stands behind the door crossing her arms, leans against the wall, smiles. I should go to sleep. Thanks for showing me. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen. You re welcome. David starts to realize something - he pulls the covers aside - sits on the edge of the bed. David reaches to Lilly, smiles. Lilly, right? Lilly smiles, walks up to the bed and reaches back. Lilly, yep! Welcome to the family! (flashes a smile) Thanks. David and Lilly grabs each other's hand - and gently shake. Both scan each other, smile. (softly) Good night, sis. (smiles wider) Good night, David. David turns, lies back on the bed, pulls up the covers. Over on pillow, David slowly moves his head to look at Lilly before closing his eyes.

17. David falls asleep. (CONT D) (softly) I ll be around until mom s ready. Happy birthday, David. Lilly goes to the window. Turns to look at David. (CONT D) (almost whispers) I ll see you around. Sweet dream! Lilly turns to the window, slowly disappears and turns into a white light - and launches fast out of the window. S FACE eye closed, asleep - breathing slowly and steadily. CUT TO BLACK: FADE OUT.
