PREFCE This manual is provided to prevent service personnel from committing an act that results in the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons. Only trained service personnel should receive, unpack, and assemble SEL Enclosures (UL60950-1/UL2416 ES Series Equipment Cabinet/ Rack). In addition, only trained service personnel should install equipment in enclosures. SFETY SYMBOLS USED IN THIS MNUL This manual provides general safety guidelines to be observed during installation, operation, and maintenance of the SEL Enclosure. WRNING: Failure to follow directions in the warning could result in injury to persons or loss of life. CUTION: Failure to follow directions in the caution could result in damage to equipment or storage data. SFETY CONSIDERTIONS WRNING: Improper handling and use of the SEL Enclosure could result in equipment damage, serious injury, or possible death. Only trained service personnel should be used to remove the enclosure from the pallet. lso, be sure you have a sufficient number of service personnel. Do not attempt to move enclosures by yourself. Only UL Listed ITE (Information Technology Equipment) units should be installed inside the SEL Enclosure. Be sure to read and follow all individual manufacturer equipment manuals for safety and installation instructions. Proper spacing is required when installing electrical equipment to avoid electrical shock. Maintain minimum spacing between the accessories and components and the computer enclosure assembly for safe operation of the equipment when installed in accordance with the National Electric Code NSI/NFP 70-1999. The ambient temperature operating range for the SEL Enclosure and accessories is +50 to +95 F (+10 to +35 C). The non-operating temperature is -4 to +140 F (-20 to +60 C). 3
SERVICE SEL Enclosures should be repaired by personnel trained by Great Lakes, or returned to Great Lakes for repair or replacement. Contact Great Lakes Technical Support at 814.734.7303 or at werackyourworld.com INSTLLTION Receiving, Unpacking, and Removing the SEL Enclosure from the Pallet Inspect and report any damage before receiving. Unpack the enclosure by carefully removing the corrugated carton and corners. void damaging the enclosure when removing packaging. WRNING: Only trained service personnel should be used to remove the enclosure from the pallet. lso, be sure you have a sufficient number of service personnel. Do not attempt to move enclosures by yourself. WRNING: Be careful when moving enclosures before installation. Sudden stops and starts, excessive force, obstructed routes, and uneven floor surfaces may cause the enclosure to topple over. Loading Equipment WRNING: Only install equipment after the SEL Enclosure has been properly secured. Do not move the SEL Enclosure assembly while loaded. Once in place at the desired/intended location, deploy the leveling feet for maximum stability. Rated or maximum load capacity for the SEL Enclosure is 2000 pounds (for 24"W enclosure; 3300 lbs. with HD Kit installed) or 3300 lbs. (for 30"W enclosure) on the floor or on leveling glides. To maintain a uniform distribution of the mechanical load in the SEL Enclosure, load the heaviest equipment first, at the bottom of the SEL Enclosure and load the lighter units at the top. 4
SEL ENCLOSURES The Great Lakes ES enclosure frame serves as the foundation of a SEL Enclosure. The frame is then configured with specific accessories to address various security needs. The following exploded view of a SEL enclosure depicts all current SEL accessories. Depending upon the SEL configuration that is ordered, each enclosure may not include all listed accessories. This instruction booklet details installation of SEL specific accessories. ccessories traditionally installed in an ES enclosure (cable management, airflow, etc.) remain compatible with SEL enclosures; please reference ES Series Enclosure Instructions (Form MS-5.02-29) for proper installation and use. TMPER RESISTNT SIDE PNELS Before removing the side panels, pull apart the quick-disconnect grounding wires. The side panels are internally secured to the enclosure frame with #10-32 x 1/2 screws. When installing the side panel, ensure the hooks on the bottom of the side panel fit over the tabs on the enclosure frame. SECURE SOLID BOTTOM PNEL Bottom panels for the SEL enclosure come in two sections: one for the large center opening and one for the rear. See DETIL for installation of the rear panel and for center panel. SECURE TOP PNEL The secure top panel is internally secured to the enclosure frame using #10-32 flat washers and hex nuts. See DETIL C for installation of the secure top panel. SEL PLTE FOR SIDE KNOCKOUTS Typical side enclosure knockouts have been removed and replaced with SEL Plates which are internally secured to the enclosure frame using #10-32 flat washers and hex nuts. SECURITY BRCKET KIT The SBKT includes two sets of secure channels and universal handle control covers to conceal cables and the intelligent handle controller inside of the enclosure. The intelligent handle and SBKT should be installed simultaneously at the enclosure manufacturer. It is not recommended to install the SBKT after rack mount equipment is installed in the enclosure. It is not recommended to remove the horizontal depth channels once rack mount equipment is installed; however, the handle controller cover can be removed if maintenance is required. See DETIL F for installation of Security Bracket Kit. HNDLE CONTROLLER COVER It is not recommended to remove the horizontal depth channels once rack mount equipment is installed; however, the handle controller cover can be removed if maintenance is required. DETIL G displays an installed handle controller. See DETIL H and DETIL I for removal and installation of handle controller cover.
