Jan. 12, 2018 Cobbles Comment Page 3 You re invited to Dance the Night Away! at Penfield High School Like the famous songs by Cream (1967), Van Halen (`79), and The Mavericks (`98), who doesn t remember dancing the night away?! The Penfield High School Dance Team invites you to their 13th Annual Dance Showcase, Saturday, January 20th, 7-9pm @ Penfield High School Auditorium stage to see them and several other local dancers Dance the Night Away! The annual Dance Showcase is the team s largest fundraiser, enabling the team to compete in the National High School Dance Team Competition @ Universal Studios Orlando. Several local dance studios and cultural dance groups will perform on stage for an incredible night of dance. In December the team submitted a video of Alive, a dance they choreographed themselves, to NDA and earned a bid to compete in March 2018! This is the fourth year in a row the team has won a bid to compete at the national level! The 2017-2018 PHS Dance Team is led by Co-Captains Nicole Mula & Sierra Ramsey; PDT alumna, Maura Quinn and PHS Faculty Advisor, Sharon Golding. This year s team has over 150 years of combined studio training. The team will perform two dances at nationals; choreographed by Carissa Bishop, SUNY Brockport Dance Team Captain and Brockport BFA Dance major. The Dance Team shows their school pride through the dances they perform at varsity games, Homecoming, Senior night, and the National High School Dance Team competition. For these Penfield High School students, being a member of the dance team is a 9 month-a-year commitment; July March. The dancers volunteer at Penfield Recreation s Jazzy Dance Camp (every July & Christmas break) to work with local children in grades K-6, having fun while improving dance skills. The team also meets each August to choreograph the dances they perform at half-time; Penfield Varsity football home games, Senior night, and Homecoming. They also choreograph dances for the Varsity boys basketball home games and Senior night. Additionally, they hold 2-3 dance clinics during the winter months and school holidays for elementary-aged children. In the words of Ellen Degeneres, I advocate for less hate & more love less sitting & more dancing. So start the New Year off right, with more dancing, and come see Dance the Night Away!. Saturday, January 20, 2018, 7-9pm at Penfield High School Auditorium, 25 High School Drive, Penfield, NY 14526. Doors open at 6:00pm. Tickets are $10 and available at the door. There will be snacks available to purchase during the brief intermission. 100% of the proceeds go towards the PHS Dance Team s 2018 National High School Dance Team competition.
