POSTSEASON HONORS: Junior Brendan Westendorf picked up three awards as the WAC postseason honors were announced Tuesday morning by the league office. In voting done by the eight head coaches, Westendorf received Second Team All-WAC, All-Defensive Team, and All-Newcomer Team recognition. Coming into the WAC Tournament, Westendorf leads Seattle U in scoring, assists, and steals, averaging 12.2 points, 4.4 assists, and 1.75 steals per game. He has also contributed 5.1 rebounds per game, is shooting 40.2 percent from behind the three-point line, and has made 76.4 percent of his free throw attempts. During conference play, he averaged 1.0 points, 4.8 rebounds,.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, plus he shot 82.9 percent from the free throw line. He is one of just three players in Division I to make more than one buzzer-beating gamewinning shot this season, hitting long three-pointers to defeat Chicago State Feb. 4 and Utah Valley Feb. 27. He scored a season-high 21 points in that Utah Valley contest, plus he scored 20 points at Eastern Washington Nov. 18 and at Utah Valley Jan. 28. He was named WAC Player of the Week by both the conference office and College Sports Madness on Feb. 1 after averaging 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and.0 steals per game as Seattle U defeated Utah Valley and Grand Canyon on the road. Scoring in double figures 19 times this season, Westendorf notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Sacramento State Nov. 15.

SCOUTING UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY: The Vaqueros enter the WAC Tournament with an 8-21 overall record. UTRGV finished the conference schedule with a 4-10 mark, tying UMKC for sixth place in the league standings, but filling the sixth seed due to a lower RPI than the Kangaroos. UT Rio Grande Valley is scoring 66.9 points per game and allowing 77.8 points per contest. As a team, the Vaqueros are shooting 42.0 percent from the field, including.8 percent from behind the three-point line, and 67.6 percent from the free throw line. For the vast majority of the season, all five starters were averaging double figures in scoring, but that number dipped to four players recently. Shaquille Hines leads the Vaqueros with 14.0 points per game, plus he has contributed 5.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest. Antonio Green was voted WAC Freshman of the Year by the coaches after averaging 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and close to three assists per game, plus he has hit a team-high 57 three-pointers. Dan Kimasa leads the team in rebounding at 6.5 rebounds per game to go along with 9.8 points per game. J.J. Thompson leads the way with 5.0 assists per game to go along with 10.8 points per contest, and Dakota Slaughter is contributing 11.6 points per game. THIS YEAR S MEETINGS: Seattle U and UT Rio Grande Valley split their two regular season meetings this season, with each team winning on its home floor. On Jan. 2, Seattle U played one of its best games of the season, committing just five turnovers while earning 20 assists on 28 made field goals on its way to a 70-59 victory at KeyArena. Five players reached double figures in scoring for the Redhawks, led by Jack Crook who shot 8-of-12 from the field for 16 points, plus he pulled down four rebounds and dished out five assists. Manny Chibuogwu shot 6-of-9 from the field as he finished with 1 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Manroop Clair hit four three-pointer for 12 points, Brendan Westendorf contributed 11 points and seven assists, and William Powell added 10 points and five rebounds. Dakota Slaughter and J.J. Thompson led the Vaqueros with 14 points apiece, with Shaquille Hines adding 1 points and eight rebounds. On Feb. 18 at the UTRGV Fieldhouse, the Vaqueros hit 11 three-pointers, led by Hines with five three-pointers on his way to a 22-point performance, as UT Rio Grande Valley defeated Seattle U, 67-57. Dan Kimasa notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, Ot Elmore contributed 11 points and six assists off the bench, and Thompson added seven points and seven assists. Both Crook and Powell notched doubledoubles for the Redhawks, with Crook shooting 10-of-15 from the field as he earned 22 points and 10 rebounds and Powell collecting 10 points and 1 rebounds. Seattle U leads the overall series over UTRGV (formerly UT Pan American), 4-2. WE RE GOING STREAKING!: From Jan. 2 through Feb. 6, Seattle University won five games in a row for the first time since putting together a five-game winning streak from Dec. 2 through Dec. 19, 201. In addition, Seattle U won five straight conference games for the first time since joining the Western Athletic Conference in 2012. The last time Seattle U won five straight conference games at any level was as a member of the Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference from Feb. 7 through Feb. 21, 2008. It had been 42 years since Seattle U last won five straight league contests at the Division I level, putting together a five-game winning streak within the West Coast Athletic Conference from Jan. 11 through Feb. 1, 1974, with victories over Nevada, UNLV, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, and at Santa Clara. VETERAN LEADERSHIP: Senior center Jack Crook and junior forward William Powell have been the leaders for this season s Redhawk squad both on and off the court. Crook is second on the team in scoring (10.2 ppg) and in rebounding (6.0 rpg). He has reached double figures in scoring 16 times, including 22-point performances against Mississippi Valley State at KeyArena Dec. 6 and at UT Rio Grande Valley Feb. 18. Last season, Crook was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court as well as Academic All-WAC for his academic work as a strategic communications major. Powell is averaging 9.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He has scored 10 or more points 15 times so far this season, finishing with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in front of friends and family at Alabama-Birmingham Dec. 1. He has earned four double-doubles over the past six games, highlighted by a career-high 18 points along with 10 rebounds in Seattle U s 72-69 victory over Utah Valley Feb. 27. Crook and Powell are the two starters back for the Redhawks from the team that advanced all the way to the title game of last year s WAC Tournament. SAVED AT THE BELL: Brendan Westendorf hit a 40-footer for the win against Chicago State on Feb. 4. Over three weeks later against Utah Valley, he first hit a buzzerbeating three-pointer at halftime to cut the Redhawk deficit to four at 8-4. At the end of regulation, after Utah Valley hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 69-69, Westendorf took the inbounds pass from William Powell, dribbled as far up the court as he could, and launched a high-arcing shot that landed in the basket for another game-winning three-pointer. Only two other players in Division I have hit multiple game-winning buzzer-beaters this season: Rashun Davis of Radford and Dequon Miller of Missouri State.

WAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Seattle U brings a 2- record from previous WAC Tournament appearances into this year s event. In 201, the Redhawks lost to Texas State, 68-56, in the first round, as Seattle U was the 10th seed. Entering the 2014 tournament as the seventh seed, the Redhawks battled second-seeded New Mexico State throughout the contest, holding a six-point lead halfway through the second half. After New Mexico State rallied back, Seattle U had a chance to send the game into overtime, but a last-second putback would not fall, giving the Aggies a 70-68 victory. Last year, Seattle U entered play as the third seed, but needed to rally from an eight-point deficit with five minutes remaining in regulation to defeat Chicago State, 49-45. The next night, Isiah Umipig tied a WAC Tournament record with eight made three-pointers to lead the Redhawks over UMKC, 69-6. In the championship game, New Mexico State scored the first nine points of the game on its way to an 80-61 victory over the Redhawks. DIVISION I POSTSEASON HISTORY: Seattle U currently holds a 16-20 record in all Division I postseason competitions. Seattle U s first postseason tournament was the 1951 National Catholic Invitation Tournament, held in Albany, N.Y. Seattle U defeated Iona (69-67) and Mount St. Mary s (102-85) before losing to St. Francis (N.Y.) in the title game, 9-79. Seattle U has made two appearances in the National Invitational Tournament, losing to Holy Cross in 1952 and to St. Bonaventure in 1957. From 195 through 1969, Seattle University advanced to the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament 11 times, a remarkable feat for an independent school to continually receive at-large berths into fields of 16 to 25 teams. The pinnacle of Seattle University s NCAA Tournament history came in 1958, with a dramatic run to the national title game before losing to the University of Kentucky. Last season, after the team s run to the final of the WAC Tournament, Seattle U accepted a spot in the College Basketball Invitational, defeating Pepperdine (62-45) and Colorado (72-65) in front of sellout crowds at the Connolly Center. The Redhawks reached the semifinals before losing to Loyola Chicago, 6-48. EXTRA TIME: The overtime game against UC Davis on Dec. 28 was the first for Seattle U this season. The Redhawks last went to overtime Jan. 1, 2015, a 71-61 loss at CSU Bakersfield. Seattle U last needed extra time at home on Feb. 27, 2014, an 84-77 triple overtime loss to Chicago State. Before the victory over the Aggies, Seattle U had lost four straight overtime games, last winning an overtime game Feb. 11, 2012, at Longwood, 100-99. PROTECTING THE BALL: Seattle University committed just five turnovers on Saturday, Jan. 2, against UT Rio Grande Valley. It is the fewest turnovers in a single game for the Redhawks in Cameron Dollar s seven seasons as head coach, with the previous low being eight turnovers on five different occasions, the last two in back-to-back games against UT Pan American Jan. 15, 2015, and New Mexico State Jan. 17, 2015. Seattle U committed just four turnovers in consecutive contests at North Dakota Feb. 27, 2009, and at South Dakota Feb. 28, 2009. ROAD WARRIORS: For the first time since joining the Western Athletic Conference in 2012-1, Seattle University swept a road weekend with its victories at Utah Valley (7-62) Jan. 28 and at Grand Canyon (59-57) Jan. 0. Including the Jan. 9 victory at Chicago State, the Redhawks won three straight road games for the first time since a five-game road winning streak that spanned from Jan. 17 through Feb. 24, 2009. Seattle U last swept a conference road weekend Feb. 7-9, 2008, when the Redhawks defeated Northwest Nazarene (8-72) and Seattle Pacific (66-59) as part of the Division II GNAC. The last time Seattle U swept a road weekend within a Division I conference was in 1978 with wins at Nevada (71-65) and at Saint Mary s (79-76) in the West Coast Athletic Conference (WCAC). A WIDE MARGIN: The 62-point victory over Northwest Indian College Dec. 17 is the widest margin of victory for the Redhawks during the Cameron Dollar coaching era, surpassing the 51-point win at Oregon State on Jan. 6, 2010. It is the largest margin of victory since Seattle U defeated Northwest University (then known as Northwest College), 122-51, during the 1988-89 season. It is also the biggest margin of victory for Seattle U as a Division I program, breaking the previous record of 52 points in a 107-55 win at Saint Martin s during the 1952-5 campaign.

HEAD COACH CAMERON DOLLAR (UCLA 97) SEVENTH SEASON AT SEATTLE U/EIGHTH SEASON OVERALL 92-119 (.46) AT SEATTLE U/10-141 (.422) OVERALL Cameron Dollar is in his seventh season as head coach at Seattle University. Dollar led Seattle University to its first national Division I postseason tournament since the 1968-69 season when the Redhawks accepted an invitation to play in the College Basketball Invitational. Seattle U reached the semifinals of the CBI with home victories over Pepperdine and Colorado, the program s first victories in a national Division I postseason tournament since 1964. The team finished with an 18-16 overall record and advanced to the championship game of the WAC Tournament. Isiah Umipig and Jarell Flora received All-WAC honors. In 201-14, Dollar s Redhawks posted a five-game improvement from the previous season and contended with eventual WAC Tournament champion New Mexico State right down to the final buzzer in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. Thanks to a season sweep over Cal State Fullerton as well as victories over UC Davis, Cal State Northridge, and Norfolk State, Seattle U jumped out to an 8- record, led by Second Team All-WAC performer Isiah Umipig. Though Dollar led the team through a tough first season in the WAC during the 2012-201 season, several key returning players showed improvement under his coaching. Dollar took a squad of several newcomers through the 2011-12 season, competing with powerhouse programs such as Virginia and Washington. The team got rolling midway through the season, winning nine of its last 12 contests, including eight in a row at KeyArena. Thanks in part to Dollar s coaching, Aaron Broussard established himself as one of the best players in program history, finishing his career 1th on the school s all-time scoring list. Seattle U picked up 11 victories during the 2010-11 season, including the team s second straight victory over Oregon State and a road victory at ACC school Virginia. The Redhawks also played a tight game at Pac-10 school Stanford and put up its best performance against Washington since starting the reclassification process in front of over 11,000 fans at KeyArena. Using an up-tempo style with aggressive defense, Dollar led Seattle U to a 17-14 record in 2009-10, making the Redhawks the first team to post a winning record playing a full Division I schedule in its first year as a Division I counter. The team started to gain national recognition after a 77-74 victory at Utah, and then made history later in the year with a 99-48 win at Oregon State, the worst home loss ever for the Beavers. Dollar and his squad also defended Elgin Baylor Court at KeyArena during its first year of existance, finishing with a 10- record at home, including exciting victories over Fresno State, Weber State, and UC Irvine. He served seven years as an asssistant coach at the University of Washington before coming to Seattle U. As the top assistant for Lorenzo Romar at Washington, he helped the Huskies win their first Pac-10 outright regular season championship since 195 in the 2008-09 season. Washington advanced to the semifinals of the Pac-10 Tournament and to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. In 2006, Dollar helped guide Washington to a 26-7 record. The Huskies made back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances for the first time ever. He was pivotal in the Huskies run to their first Pac-10 Tournament championship in 2005 and first ever No. 1 seed into the NCAA Tournament. UW finished with a 29-6 record, tying the school record for wins in a season. In 2004, the Huskies advanced to the championship game of the Pac-10 Tournament and competed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999. Prior to his arrival at UW, Dollar served three years as an assistant coach on Romar s Saint Louis University staff. He helped the Billikens to a three-year record of 51-44 (.57), including a 2000 Conference USA Tournament championship that secured the league s automatic NCAA berth. Dollar began his coaching career as an assistant on the staff of head coach Pat Douglass at UC Irvine in 1997. He became the nation s youngest head coach in 1998 when, at age 22, he took the reins of the Southern California College program in Costa Mesa, Calif. The Vanguards, who returned just six players from the previous season, posted an 11-22 record in Dollar s only season, but recorded wins over NAIA Top 25 teams Westmont and Azusa Pacific. After a three-month stay as a part-time assistant at the University of Georgia in 1999, Dollar left to join the Saint Louis coaching staff on a full-time basis. As a player, Dollar lettered four seasons at UCLA before graduating in 1997. He has chosen to remain in Seattle, the site of the Bruins 1995 NCAA Championship victory. UCLA defeated Arkansas 89-78 at the Kingdome. A four-year letterman at UCLA from 1994-97, Dollar achieved national recognition in 1995 as a pivotal player in UCLA s NCAA championship season when he took over for injured starter Tyus Edney in the title game. In Dollar s final three collegiate seasons, the Bruins won the NCAA title and reached the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Dollar averaged 5.0 points and.7 assists per game during his four-year career. Cameron and his wife, Maureen, live in Seattle. They have three children: Jalen (born April 26, 2005), Giselle (born Feb. 12, 2007), and Jason (born Dec. 2, 2008).
