SAILING INSTRUCTION 31.05-03.06.2018 1. RULES 1.1. The race is performed in accordance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) 1.2. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 ISAF (RRS), Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions. 1.3. In the case of conflict between documents the Sailing Instructions will take precedence. 2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS 2.1. Notices to competitors will be announced in the Regatta Office in Nexø on each day of the competition. 2.2. A compulsory Captains Briefing will be held in the Regatta Office: a) Bornholm Challenge briefing, 01.06.2018 at 05.00 b) Christiansø Challenge briefing, 02.06.2018 at 06.00 3. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS CHANGES Any changes to the sailing instructions will be announced one hour before the start. 4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE Signals made ashore will also be displayed on the race committee signal boat. 5. RACE SCHEDULE 5.1. Bornholm Challenge 01.06.2018 Friday Start signal to the first race is scheduled for 06:30 Estimated time of a race is 14 hours. 5.2. Christiansø Challenge 02.06.2018 Saturday Start signal to the second race is scheduled for 07:30 Estimated time of a race is 8 hours. 6. REGATTA CLASSES 6.1. Class I - DH (double handed) RL* =< 10 m 6.2. Class II - MH (multi handed)rl =< 10 m 6.3. Class III - DH RL> 10 m 6.4. Class IV - MH RL> 10 m 6.5. Group in the class will be created after registering at least three yachts. 6.6. The division into groups will take place after the closing date for entries. 6.7. Yachts with single crew will be classified in DH class. * RL -Register length 7. CLASS FLAGS Flag of class "F" ICS will be applied for all competing yachts. 8. RACING AREA 8.1 The Bornholm Challenge racing area is the offshore water around Bornholm Island. 8.2 The racing area of the Christiansø Challenge is the sea water stretching from the eastern shore of Bornholm Island around the Ertholm archipelago. In the racing area, there is increased traffic, including high-speed HSC ferries to Bornholm's west side. All participants are committed to respecting the 10 Rule of COLREG on waterways and approaches. 9. ROUTES 9.1. Attachment 1 shows the location of the regatta racing area. 9.2. The choice of route depends on weather conditions and will be given at each Captains Briefing. 9.6. The regatta will be declared as run when at least one of the races has been held. 10. MARKERS 10.1. The start line will be determined by the line that joins the Race Committee boat at the right end and inflatable yellow buoy at the left end 10.2. The finish line will be determined by the line between the inflatable yellow buoy (approx. 3 cables in the north direction) and an entrance head Nexø port (red). 11. START 11.1. Starting the race will be held under rule 26. 11.2. The Start line will run between a pole displaying a large orange flag on the race committee signal boat to the right, and the inflatable yellow buoy to the left. 11.3. Start will be on the wind towards the first mark. 11.4. A warning signal will be given 5 minutes before the starting signal. 12. ICS SIGNALS USED DURING THE REGATTA 12.1. The starting procedure, rule 30.1. Flag. "I", one horn signal. 12.2. The starting procedure rule 30.3. The flag "black" one horn signal. 12.3. After a personal appeal is signalled, RC will announce the name of the yacht and starting number on RC 72 VHF. None of the above information or its delay is a basis for redress. THE FINISH Crossing the finish line is tantamount to a declaration of sailing consistent with the idea of Fair play (rule 2 Part I). 14. PENALTY SYSTEM 14.1. Yacht violating rules of right of way shall take penalty of two rotations. 14.2. Yacht violating rules of touching the mark shall accept the penalty of one rotation, in accordance with the rule 44.1 or withdraw. 14.3. A boat takes the penalty rotation immediately after the incident, according to rule 44.2. A boat taking a penalty point(s) displays a yellow flag. Penalty points result in the score lowering at respectively two and one point; In accordance with rule 44.3 cannot get worse than DNF result. 14.4. Yacht violating the starting procedure (OCS), contrary to the rule 30.1 will incur a point penalty equal to 20% of the reported yachts, but no more than yacht with DNF. 15. TIME LIMITS 15.1.A boat that does not finish Bornholm Challenge within 14 hours from the start signal will be classified as DNF (did not finish without hearing). 15.2.A boat that does not finish Christiansø Challenge within 8 hours from the start signal will be classified as DNF 15.3.DNF (did not finish without hearing) changes the rule A 4.1. 16. PROTESTS AND APPEALS 16.1. Due to the club character of the regatta, the Jury makes decisions without the right of appeal under Rule 70.5. This changes Appendix N 16.2. Protest forms are available at the race office; rules of part 5 will apply. 16.3. Protests will be accepted no later than 30 minutes after the race committee signal boat arrives at the port. 17. SCORING 17.1 The order of yachts in each class in Christiansø Challenge and Bornholm Challenge will be determined based on the actual time of covering the route of the race CT = ET. 17.2. Place won in the ORWBornholm Trophy will be determined according to the handicap-system KLR for classic yachts. where: KLR - measurement handicap-system L - total length, LW - length of the water line, B - beam D - draft S - effective surface of the sails V - displacement s - additional sail ratio cb - the shape of the bottom p - propeller ratio r - masting and rigging ratio Time equalization of the route sailed by yachts according to the following formula: CT = ET x KLR where: CT - recalculated time ET - real time of the route 17.3. SCORING will be in accordance with the provisions of A4.1. 18. CONFIRMATION OF PARTICIPATION IN THE RACE 18.1 A procedure to confirm participation in the race is in force. All yachts are required to confirm participation before the start of the race by passing near the Race Committee boat. 18.2 A yacht that retires from a race shall immediately notify the race committee. 18.3 A boat that does not leave the port must immediately inform the race office 19. AWARDS 20.1. The following trophies are provided for each class: The Bornholm Challenge Trophy in each class for the fastest yacht starting in the Main Judge of The Regatta Izabella Kidacka, license number 771, mobile +48 789-221-960 Side 4

race around Bornholm, B) The Christiansø Challenge Trophy in each class for the fastest boat starting in the race around the Ertholm archipelago, C) Trophy ORW Bornholm in each class for the yacht that will be awarded the lowest number of points with handicap in both races, D) Medals for crews for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each class. 20.2. A minimum of 3 yachts are required to qualify for the prize in each Class and the event is valid if at least one race is completed. 20.3. Bornholm Challenge and Christiansø Challenge Trophies are owned by the Yacht Club Nexø. Winners of the race are required to return the trophy to the Yacht Club Nexø prior to May 5 next year. 20.4. The winner of each race is also the holder of the route record in each class as long as it is not bettered in that class during a subsequent ORWBORNHOLM regatta. 20.5. Commemorative certificates for taking part in the Regatta will be received by all boats. 20.6. All awards will be announced in a separate Organizers message. 21. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY, INSURANCE 21.1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. 21.2. Each boat operator is responsible for deciding whether to start or whether they should continue participating in the race, under rule 4 of Part I. 21.3. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for material damage, or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during or after the regatta. 21.4. Each yacht captain shall personally certify that the yacht s liability insurance is valid and all crew aboard are properly insured against all liabilities and injuries that may occur while participating in this regatta.
