The day started with a Lego Robotics Build & Challenge activity where the kids got to be little engineers for the day, building their very own reindeer Lego contraptions. They also learned how to turn buttercream cupcakes into magical colourful unicorns in the Unicorn Cupcake Decorating Workshop before enjoying a magic show and festive treats at D.Lounge. 4 SG InTouch Life at Deloitte Our people May 2017 4 Accountants from across the island gathered for the annual International Accountants Day Fiesta at the Event Square at Marina Bay Sands on 9 November 2017. Food, Fun, FIESTA at IAD 2017! A little rain certainly couldn t dampen the spirits of our people as they were treated to delicious goodies such as pizzas, chicken wings and nachos. Some also participated in street games such as Human Foosball, Mouse Trap and Key Punch against teams from other accounting firms. Our talented Deloitte band also took to the stage and their impressive performances livened up the entire atmosphere. It was certainly an enjoyable evening and a great way for our people to unwind and celebrate the accounting profession! Putting an artistic touch to the Future of Business As part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations, we organised a Digital Art Competition and invited students to illustrate how they envision the Future of Business in Singapore in the next 50 years and beyond. The competition was launched in May and concluded with a prize presentation ceremony on 5 December 2017 where the winners were announced and walked away with over $11,000 worth in cash prizes! Over the submission period of three months, we received more than 170 entries from students across various schools who showcased their creative flair and offered their creative perspectives on the ever-changing business landscape. From homes on water to compressed box-sized houses, flying drones delivering shopping parcels to your doorstep and submarines becoming the next most common mode of transportation in Singapore, the students really showed that there is no limit to their imagination! After intense deliberation by our judging panel, it was Bryan Sim from Ngee Ann Polytechnic who won the top prize of $2,500 cash in the individual category, while the team category title went to Farreen Naaz Binte Haja Mohammed and Nurul Yasmeen Binte Mohd Rafie from the Institute of Technical Education. Prizes were also presented to the 1st and 2nd runners-up, as well as submissions with the most Creative Colour, Creative Design and Creative Idea. Winner for individual category, Bryan Sim. At Deloitte, we value diversity and believe that art can play a prominent role in business. The creativity and uniqueness of how an artist perceives the world of business can provide us with an alternative view to how we traditionally look at things. Innovative ideas often start with creative dreams. James Walton, Clients & Markets Partner VSA artist Muhammad Noh (left) with competition judge James Walton. To do our part for the community, we also commissioned Muhammad Noh Bin Arjuna from Very Special Arts Singapore Ltd (VSA) to design a special art mural! His design, along with seven other art pieces, will be featured on the walls of our office spaces.
Life at Deloitte December 2017 5 2017 Netball Nations Cup Teams from Cook Islands, Hong Kong, Ireland, Malaysia, Singapore and Swaziland convened at the OCBC Arena from 3 to 9 December as they battled it out in the 2017 Netball Nations Cup. With all the teams from different continents, this year s competition was a thrilling one as they displayed their unique flair and passion for the game! In the opening match against Ireland, it was a tight affair from the start as our Singapore squad worked hard to claim the win in their opening game. Deloitte netballers Charmaine Soh, Kimberly Lim and Nur Aqilah Andin were outstanding, however, Ireland responded strongly in the final quarter and narrowly won by a score of 54-53. Day 2 of the competition saw our Singapore squad taking on a strong Swaziland team and it proved to be an uphill task for Singapore from the start with the game ending 64-51 in Swaziland s favour. Despite the pressure to be in the running for a place in the finals, our Singapore squad was undaunted and faced the Hong Kong team and causeway rivals Malaysia bagging two wins! Unfortunately, the final round robin match against Cook Islands did not go in our favour and our Singapore squad were relegated to the 3rd place play-offs against Ireland. Seeking to erase the painful loss of the opening match tournament where we lost by a single point, our Singapore squad gave it their all despite the immense pressure in front of a 1,600-strong home crowd. Stepping up their game with an overall goal accuracy of 82% it was our Team Singapore netballers who eventually emerged as winners with a final score of 60-41, finishing the tournament as 2nd runner-up! Kudos to our Deloitte netballers and their team! Deloitte Men s Futsal team debut at Phuket Soccer 7s Trying their hand at the Phuket Soccer 7s tournament were our Men s Futsal team as they made their debut at the tournament on 25 and 26 November 2017. Placed in the group of death, our Deloitte team face twotime defending champions Azzurri in their opening match and put up a good fight but unfortunately lost 3-0 to the more experienced team. Undeterred by the defeat, they took on last year s semi-finalists Desi Hartamas and were able to overcome their opponents to qualify for the Cup semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the top six teams were drawn into two groups of three, with only the top in each group progressing to the finals. Drawing their first game, our Deloitte team were in need of a win in their second game against last year s 1st runner-up. Going 2-0 down into the first half, our men s team came back impressively with two goals from super-sub Zhong Guoxiang. With just 15 seconds to go, we were awarded a free kick at the edge of the penalty box but a brilliant save from the opponent keeper denied our team the winning goal and a chance at the finals. However, the two draws meant that our Deloitte team finished joint third in the tournament a remarkable achievement for a debut performance!
