GRIZZLIES TEAM NOTES: PAW PRINTS: Current team trends/notes THE GRIZZLIES are shooting 82.8% from the free throw line in their four wins this season, compared to 72.9% form the charity stripe in their 10 losses. THE GRIZZLIES outscored their opponents in fast break points only once through their first six games of the season, but have gone on to outscore them in that category in six of their eight games since. MEMPHIS committed an average of 16.7 turnovers per game through their first seven games of the season. In their last seven games, they ve committed an average of 12.7 per game. Only four of MEMPHIS 13 games this season have been decided by more than 10 points, including last night s 12-point win over Denver. Prior to last night s 108-point outburst, the Grizzlies had averaged 88.8 ppg in their previous five games. MEMPHIS seven-game road losing streak to open the season is well short of the franchise-worst mark of 30 consecutive road losses (Feb. 19/98 Dec. 6/99). THE GRIZZLIES have topped the 90-point plateau in three of their seven road losses, including last night s 108-96 victory at Denver. MULTIPLE STREAKS COME TO AN END: Last night s win at Denver snapped a number of Grizzlies losing streaks. The win was their first-ever at the Pepsi Center and snapped a 17-game skid on the road in Denver, was their first road victory of the season after losing their first seven road contests to open the season and was their first win of the season against a Western Conference Opponent. BACK-TO-BACK BARRAGE: Tonight s game marks the conclusion of the Grizzlies sixth and final back-to-back series of November. The Indiana Pacers are the only other team in the NBA with as many back-to-back series in the month of November. Consequently, a total of 111 back-to-back series will be played in November: 56 in the Western Conference, 55 in the Eastern Conference, including a division-high 22 in the Southwest Division (Southwest: 22, Central:21, Northwest:20, Atlantic:18, Southeast:16, Pacific:14). THREE-POINT TRADITION; GRIZZ REACH 300 GAMES AND COUNTING : After connecting on six three-point field goals in last night s win at Denver, the Grizzlies extended their streak of at least one three-point field goal made to 306 games. Only three teams have longer active streaks of games with at least one three-point field goal made, as shown by the breakdown below: TEAM GAMES (DATE STARTED) Toronto Raptors 627 (Feb. 26/99) Dallas Mavericks 624 (Feb. 27/99) Sacramento Kings 491 (Dec. 1/00) Memphis Grizzlies 306 (Jan. 13/03) *Through games played on Nov. 28/06 GRIZZLIES PLAYER NOTES: PAW PRINTS: Current individual player trends/notes HAKIM WARRICK entered last night s game at Denver averaging 10.6 ppg on 40.0% shooting from the field on the road this season, but finished with a team-high 25 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field in last night s win over the Nuggets. LAWRENCE ROBERTS scored a season-high 16 points in last night s win over Denver, marking the third time this season he s reached double-figures in scoring. All three of Roberts double-figure scoring efforts have come on the road against Western Conference teams (10 points at PHO on Nov. 11, 11 points at DAL on Nov. 18). STROMILE SWIFT pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds in last night s win over Denver, including a season-high five on the offensive end. It marked the second time in the last three games Swift has recorded double-figures in rebounding (10 vs. WAS on Nov. 24). Over the last three games, Swift is averaging 8.3 rebounds overall, including 4.0 rpg on the offensive glass. MILLER FINDING TEAMMATES; DISHES OUT CAREER-HIGH 14 ASSISTS: In last night s win over the Denver Nuggets, Mike Miller dished out a career-high 14 assists to go along with 13 points and seven rebounds in 43 minutes. Miller s previous career-high of 13 assists came back on Nov. 29/03 at Cleveland. Miller has developed a trend of sharing the basketball over the course of the last eight games, dishing out four assists or better in all but one of those contests. Over his last eight games, Miller is averaging 5.5 apg and over his last four games is averaging 7.0 apg. CUSTODIAN CLEANING UP: After appearing in only five of the team s first 10 games (two DNP-CD, three games IA-Personal Reasons), Brian Cardinal has averaged 9.5 points on 54.5% shooting from the field, 61.5% shooting from three-point range and a perfect 100.0% shooting from the free throw line over the course of the last four games. In that span, he s also averaged 2.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.5 steals in just over 16 minutes per game. Warrick has led the Grizzlies in scoring in each of their last three games, and in five of the team s last seven games overall. He finished with a team-high 25 points in last night s win over the Nugguets, marking the fifth time he s topped the 20-point plateau already this season (leads the team in that category). Warrick has started all 14 games at the power forward position filling in for the injured Pau Gasol, who last year held the distinction of the team s leading scorer (20.4 ppg) and rebounder (8.9 rpg). Below are breakdowns of the top five scorers from Warrick s rookie class (last season vs. this season) and Warrick s numbers from his rookie season compared to this season (also how his numbers compare to Gasol s from 2005-06).

Lowry s five steals tied a the Grizzlies franchise record for steals in a game by a rookie, a feat last accomplished by Shane Battier (now with Houston) on Mar. 11/02 vs. Utah. GRIZZLIES HEAD COACH, MIKE FRATELLO Mike Fratello joined the Grizzlies on December 2, 2004, becoming the seventh head coach in franchise history. Fratello came to the Grizzlies as one of the NBA s most successful coaches in history, ranking 19 th on the all-time wins list and 21 st on the all-time games coached list when he joined the team. A 16-year coaching veteran, his teams have qualified for the NBA playoffs in 11 of his 16 seasons as a head coach. His success carried over immediately into his position with the Grizzlies. The team went 9-6 after he took over in December 2004, then went an incredible 12-3 in January 2005, earning Fratello the NBA s Western Conference Coach of the Month Award. He earned his 600 th career win as a head coach on March 4, 2005, only the 19 th coach all-time to reach the 600-win plateau. He finished out the regular season by guiding the Grizzlies to their second winning season, and second playoff appearance. His second season with the Grizzlies was equally impressive. With a roster that had been overhauled prior to the season, and the loss of Damon Stoudamire in December to a season-ending knee injury, the team still won more games than they did the previous season, and qualified for the playoffs for the third year in a row. Their winning ways led to Fratello passing Hubie Brown in April as the winningest coach in franchise history.
