The sophomore delivered a corner kick to Teri Maykoski for the game-winning header versus PSU. At Tech, Rynier scored a goal to give the Dukes a 3-2 second-half lead and then assisted on the game-winner by Cate Tisinger. CAA WOMEN S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Veronica Napoli, Northeastern Fr., F, Newport, R.I./Prout Napoli recorded two goals and an assist as Northeastern split a pair of matches last week. The freshman forward scored two straight goals, including the game-winner, as the Huskies rallied past Bryant 3-1. She also assisted on a game-tying goal by Liza Rebello in NU s 2-1 overtime loss to Harvard. Napoli has three goals for the season.

The Lady Monarchs improved to 7-1 this season after defeating previously unbeaten Akron (6-0) and ACC foe N.C. State (1-0) over the weekend. Four CAA Teams Ranked Regionally: Four CAA teams are ranked regionally this week by Soccer Buzz in its Sept. 22 poll. In the Mid-Atlantic region poll, William & Mary is #6, Old Dominion is #7 and James Madison is #8, while in the Northeast region, Hofstra is ranked #9. The NSCAA will release its updated rankings on Sept. 23. State s Gonzales Among Candidates For Senior CLASS Award: Georgia State senior Candace Gonzales is one of 30 candidates for the Lowe s Senior CLASS Award, which is given to student-athletes in nine Division I sports based on their dedication and achievement in the areas of Classroom, Character, Community and Competition. Harbrueger Among Top Scorers: Georgia State s Kay Harbrueger ranks second in the nation in points per game (3.25) and 4th in goals per game (1.38) according to the latest NCAA stats through games of Sept. 21. ODU s Shavon Knight is 13th in points (2.25 ppg) and tied for 19th in goals (1.16 gpg) with Drexel freshman Jenna Lindsay. VCU senior Stephanie Power ranks sixth in assists (0.88) and JMU s Teresa Rynier (0.75) is 14th. Conference Play Gets Underway: Conference play gets started in the CAA this week with all 12 teams facing league opponents on Friday and Sunday. William & Mary earned five first-place votes and was picked first in a pre-season poll of the league coaches, but second-place James Madison received four first-place votes and third-place Hofstra got three. DELAWARE (3-3-1 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Blue Hens dropped a 2-1 decision to Saint Joseph s in their only action of the week. Delaware jumped out to a 1-0 advantage just 2:19 into the match as senior midfielder Alli D Amico scored her third goal of the season on a penalty kick. D Amico finished the match with a team-high five shots, including four on net. Senior keeper Annie Bevan made four saves for UD, but gave up a pair of goals during a three-minute stretch of the first half. The Blue Hens begin CAA play with matches against Hofstra and Northeastern. DREXEL (5-3 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Dragons tied their school record for non-conference wins in a season after beating UMBC (3-0) and losing to Saint Joseph s (2-1) last week. Senior Aleka Yiantsos contributed the game-winning goal and an assist at UMBC and then scored Drexel s lone goal on a penalty kick versus Saint Joe s. Yiantsos tied the Drexel career record for goals (18) and game-winners (5). Freshman Jenna Lindsay continued her outstanding season with a pair of goals at UMBC. Lindsey is tied for second in the CAA with seven goals and is only two away from tying the Dragons season goals record. The Dragons visit Northeastern on Friday before hosting Hofstra on Sunday. GEORGE MASON (3-5 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Patriots crushed Howard 9-1, but suffered a 1-0 overtime setback at Longwood last week. Junior Kelly Keelan moved from goalkeeper back to forward versus Howard and recorded just the fifth hat trick in school history with three

Freshman midfielder Zania Barnum added a goal and two assists off the bench against Howard and Annie Lebherz scored her first two goals of the year. The nine goals were the most in a game for Mason since 1995. The Patriots out-shot Longwood 17-6, but fell in overtime on a 35-yard free kick. Keelan led the way with six shots. Mason faces in-state foes James Madison and VCU to open its CAA schedule. GEORGIA STATE (7-2 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Panthers split matches with in-state rivals last week, topping Georgia Southern 1-0 in overtime, but losing 2-0 to Mercer. State played without leading scorer Kay Harbrueger and fellow senior Kara Vezza against Ga. Southern due to suspensions, but sophomore Apryl Goodwin s fourth goal of the season was the game-winner late in the first overtime. Freshman goalkeeper Kellianne Collins filled in for injured starter Heidi Blankenship and earned her first career shutout against Ga. Southern. She also made 10 saves in the setback to Mercer. State opens CAA action against ODU and William & Mary this week. HOFSTRA (3-4-1 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Pride played a pair of double-overtime thrillers last week, beating Stony Brook 1-0 and tying Central Connecticut 3-3. Hofstra out-shot its two foes by a 48-15 margin. Sophomore transfer Dana Bergstrom headed in a cross from Jess Crankshaw to give Hofstra the win over SBU. Senior Marie Curtin became just the third player in school history to record 20 career assists when she set up Courtney Breen s goal versus CCSU. Junior Diane Caldwell and senior Edel Malone also scored against the Blue Devils. Hofstra improved to 33-8-4 at Hofstra Soccer Stadium since the facility opened in 2003. The Pride meets Delaware and Drexel this week to start their CAA slate. JAMES MADISON (4-2-2 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Dukes knocked off #17 Penn State 1-0 and outlasted Virginia Tech 4-3 in double overtime last week. JMU is 2-0-1 in its last three contests, all of which have come against teams that are either nationally or regionally ranked. The JMU/Penn State game was played before a school-record crowd of 1,849 and a national TV audience on FOX Soccer Channel. Teri Maykoski headed in the game-winning goal versus PSU off a corner kick from Teresa Rynier. The victory improved JMU s home field unbeaten streak to 19 matches (17-0-2). Sophomore Cate Tisinger scored a pair of goals at Tech, including the gamewinner. Rynier delivered the assist on the game-winner and also scored a goal that put JMU ahead 3-2. Kim Germain is now 7th in career assists (19) at JMU, while Rynier is 10th (17). Keeper Diane Wszalek picked up her first shutout of the year against PSU after deflecting a free kick over the crossbar. JMU meets George Mason and Towson this week. UNC WILMINGTON (4-3-1 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Seahawks are on a three-game winning streak after posting a 2-0 victory at Davidson on Sunday. All three victories in the streak have come on the road and have been shutouts. Freshman midfielder Sydney Rigsbee scored the game-winning goal just seven minutes into the first half. She is the third different UNCW freshman to net a game-winner during the streak. Senior Kelly Renkin converted a penalty kick in the second half for the Seahawks other score. Freshman keeper Chandler Follett made four saves and recorded her second straight shutout. She has allowed just one goal in 225 minutes this season. UNCW takes on William & Mary and ODU to open its CAA schedule. NORTHEASTERN (4-3-1 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Huskies bounced back from a 2-1 overtime loss to Harvard to defeat Bryant 3-1. Northeastern trailed Bryant 1-0 before getting back-to-back goals from freshman forward Veronica Napoli to take the lead. Napoli has three goals and

The Huskies have already scored more goals in 2008 (11) than all last season (9). NU faces Drexel and Delaware to open CAA play. OLD DOMINION (7-1 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Lady Monarchs are ranked #25 nationally by Soccer America this week after victories over previously unbeaten Akron (4-0) and N.C. State (1-0). ODU is now unbeaten in its last 17 home non-conference games dating back to 2004. Senior forward Katie Watson recorded a hat trick versus Akron, scoring three of the team s four goals including the game-winner. Watson is now second on the team in goals (6) and points (14). Kelsey Williams scored her first goal of the season in the 40th minute to lead ODU past N.C. State. The victory was the first ever for the Lady Monarchs against an ACC opponent. Senior Shavon Knight added two assists last week and is second in the CAA with 18 points. Keeper Lauren Tupman tops the CAA with four shutouts in eight matches. ODU s defense limited State to just four shots and Akron to seven. ODU opens CAA play against Georgia State and UNC Wilmington this week. TOWSON (3-5 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Tigers dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime at Princeton last Friday. It was the third straight loss for Towson, which hasn t scored a goal in its last 276:47 dating back to a 1-0 overtime win against Rider on Sept. 4. Freshman goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak started her second straight game and made three saves as the Tigers were out-shot 13-3. Towson starts CAA play this weekend with matches against VCU and James Madison. VCU (4-4 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Rams pushed their winning streak to four with victories over Wofford (5-1) and Navy (3-1). Senior midfielder Megan Flanagan recorded two goals and an assist against Wofford and then contributed a goal and an assist in the win at Navy. Flanagan has 11 points (4g, 3a) on the season. Senior Stephanie Power tallied a goal and three assists versus Wofford and at one point had been involved in nine straight VCU goals. Power added two more assists at Navy and now leads the CAA with seven assists for the season. Sophomore Laurel Pastor scored a goal in each contest, including the game-winner at Navy. She has eight points in her past three matches. Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Kali Van Covern made her first two career starts and allowed just a pair of goals. VCU meets Towson and George Mason this weekend to open league action. WILLIAM & MARY (5-3-1 overall, 0-0 in CAA): The Tribe handed N.C. State its first loss of the season, 2-1 in double overtime, and then cruised past Akron 6-0. Senior forward Claire Zimmeck tallied two goals and two assists over the weekend, including the game-winning goal in the 105th minute to beat NCSU. Zimmeck, who had the first multi-assist game of her career against Akron, became just the sixth player to go over 100 points for her career (105). Stephanie Gerow scored the other Tribe goal versus the Pack. Five different players scored their first career points against Akron, including goals by Anna Keyes, Gabby Gonzales and Emily DeNardis. W&M s six goals were its most ever at Albert-Daly Field. Tribe coach John Daly is just two wins shy of 300 for his career. W&M meets UNCW and Georgia State this weekend.
