COLORADO Sept. 10, 2015 - Gunnison, Colo. Playing on the highest collegiate soccer facility in the world (elevation of over 7,700 feet), it was an uphill climb throughout the game for LCU, who suffered their first loss of the season. After being held to one shot in the opening half, LCU did produce five shots in the second half but the 3-0 halftime deficit was too much to overcome. Forward Brooke Wendl had three of LCU s six shots in the game, with two on goal. WSCU produced goals from five different individuals. Samantha Braun opened the scoring for the Mountaineers 1:40 into the game. Ingrid Alvarez and Elyza Montano each added first half goals for a 3-0 lead. Samantha Taylor opened the second half scoring 1:36 into the second half. Jennifer Kahle closed the scoring in the 76th minute, scoring past Leslie Castellano, who subbed in for starter Lauren Story in the 53rd minute. Goals by Alvarez (25th minute) and Montano (29th minute) were recorded 3:39 apart in the opening half. The last time LCU was shutout was on Sept. 14 of last season, when they were ironically shutout by WSCU at home 1-0, which also marked their first loss of the season. Falling 5-0, the five-goal deficit was their biggest since a 5-0 home shutout loss to Dallas Baptist on Nov. 2, 2013. That game also marks the last time LCU had allowed at least five goals. The road shutout is the ninth time LCU has been shutout on the road in program history and the first since Oct. 28, 2013 at St. Edward s. LCU is now 0-2-0 all-time against Western State and 1-2-0 all-time against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference programs (only one goal scored in the three games). The Lady Chaparrals move to 15-13-0 all-time under head coach Alex Denning in road games. WSCU is now 2-0-0 against Heartland Conference programs and has out-scored HC programs 7-0 this season. 180 : Number of consecutive shutout minutes by WSCU goalkeeper Meghan Jedrzejewski against LCU all-time. Thursday s shutout has her with an overall active shutout sequence of 183:18 carrying over from last season. 2 2 (2ot) vs Adams State (Sep 12, 2015 at Alamosa, Colo.) Freshman defender Madison Boyd opened the games scoring with her first collegiate goal. She also made a great defensive play in the interior of the goal area to help prevent an ASU goal. Emily Odom produced her first goal of the season and it nearly served as the game winning goal. Brooke Wendl tied a program single-game mark with two assists. Boyd opened the scoring in the game s 33rd minute connecting off a corner kick from Wendl. Wendl would grab another assist off a corner kick in the game s 58th minute, as Odom was the recipient and she connected on her first goal of the season and the ninth of her career. ASU s goals came in the 36th minute and the 84th minute. Natalie Wheelock scored on a scramble to tie the game at 1-1 before the half and Lacey Daniel was credited with the equalizer by beating a diving Leslie Castellano with a low-roller just inside the post as 6:38 remained in regulation. The game ended amidst lots of controversy. In the second overtime, the assistant referee raised his flag prior to a throw-in, as LCU was in the process of making a valid substitution. The ball was put in play and ASU s Dezirae Armijo went down and scored what appeared to be the game winning golden goal for the Grizzlies, as the center-official (referee) was hesitant as to stop play during the counter. While one team celebrated and the other outraged, the officials decided to congregate and discuss the events that transpired. The center-official eventually brought both coaches together and, after a lengthy delay, decided to disallow the goal based on improper restart. The emotions shifted gears and ASU then became outraged as time was added to the clock and the game was restarted from the time the officials felt the error was made. Goalkeeper Lauren Story s consecutive streak of games starting in goal ended at 40, as Leslie Castellano made her first start in goal for LCU. She produced four saves off six shots on goal, including a save in overtime. Wendl s two-assist game marked the 18th time a Lady Chap has had a two-assist game, which matches the program s single-game record. Odom was the last to complete the task (Sept. 30, 2014). Wendl, the program s career assists leader (26), produced a two-assist game for the seventh time in her career. LCU played to a tie Sept. 5 against Eastern New Mexico, which had marked their first tie since Oct. 25, 2012. Saturday s tie with ASU is LCU s second tie of the season, which matches a program singleseason record for games resulting in a tie. LCU is 2-6-8 all-time in games ending in overtime. The Lady Chaparrals are now winless in their last five non-conference road games (0-4-1). LCU is 1-0-1 all-time against ASU and 1-2-1 all-time against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes. 6-2 : The shots advantage had in the first overtime frame. 7,500 : The elevation (in feet) of Alamosa, Colo. Playing in the high altitude is something LCU had to adapt to. Nine Lady Chaps played in over 100 minutes (as compared to five ASU players), including Kristin Fellows, Castellano, Wendl and Boyd, who played all 120 minutes. Wheelock was the lone ASU member that played in all 120 minutes. -CASTELLANO, Leslie (0-0-1). Adams State-Teagan Moore (0-0-1). Stadium: ASU Soccer Field Officials: Referee: Juan Madera; Asst. 4 0 GAME:13 NORTHWESTERN OKLA. ST. ATLUBBOCK CHRISTIAN Oct. 17, 2015 - Lubbock, Texas LCU gets goals from four different players, with Gracie Jenkins and Brittany Guthrie each recording the first goal of their college career. The Lady Chaps claimed their second consecutive shutout and their first of the season. For the first time in program history, LCU completes their home schedule unbeaten, as they go 7-0-2 at LCU Soccer Field. Brooke Wendl opened the scoring in the 16th minute with her team-leading ninth goal of the season. They made it 2-0 just prior to the half with Guthrie scoring with 1:44 left in the first half. Jenkins opened the scoring of the second half in the 68th minute with a chip over goalkeeper Briana Legaspi for a 3-0 LCU lead. Claudia Sanchez deflected in a corner kick from Ashley Ledford in the 79th minute to close the scoring. Arlet Polack had NWOSU s lone shot on goal. Of LCU s four goals, three were produced by players tallying their first goals of the season. With goals by Guthrie, Jenkins and Sanchez, LCU has received goals from 14 different players this season, which is a single-season record. LCU received goals from eight different players last season and the prior season record was goals from 11 different players (done three prior times). Wendl s goal was her 43rd career goal (program career record) and it qualified as the game winning goal (program career leading 15th). The game winning goal is her fourth of the season and moves her atop the Heartland Conference in the category. She now has a program career leading 114 points. LCU used 12 substitutes in the game. It was Senior Day and LCU was able to end the game with all eight seniors on the pitch at the same time. Both senior goalkeepers (Leslie Castellano and Lauren Story) each spent 45 minutes in goal and Castellano returned as a fielder in the final seven minutes to join Story and fellow seniors Emily Odom, Wendl, Saydee Bailey, Jessica Barrera, Jocelyn Richardson and Kristin Fellows. Richardson (assist) and Wendl (goal) were the only seniors to figure into the game s scoring. The shutout win was LCU s 31st shutout in program history and the third of the season. LCU has two consecutive shutout wins (only allowing one shot on goal in each game), but unlike Thursday s shutout at Newman, starting goalkeeper Castellano does not receive the win. Since multiple goalkeepers were used by LCU, the shutout gets credited to the team. LCU out-shot NWOSU 27-4 overall and had a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal. It is the second consecutive game LCU has held an opponent to one shot on goal and the fourth time this season they have held an opponent to one or less shots on goal. They have held opponents to a combined 16 shots on goal in the past seven games (2.3 per game). The Lady Chaps had been 10-for-10 in program history in penalty kicks until Saturday. Guthrie had a penalty kick attempt rattle the crossbar for the program s first ever miss. She made up for it 44 seconds after her attempt by scoring her first collegiate goal. With the win, LCU moves to 7-0-2 at home this season and is now 24-6-4 all-time at home under Alex Denning. They are 27-14-6 all-time overall at home. LCU improved to 4-1-1 all-time against NWOSU in the all-time series. 724:49: LCU handed NWOSU their eighth consecutive shutout of the season. NWOSU, who has only tallied three goals this season, has not produced a goal in the past 724:49. - - GAME:14 LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN AT DALLAS BAPTIST Oct. 22, 2015 - Dallas, Texas Northwestern Okla. vs (Oct 17, 2015 at Lubbock, Texas) Northwestern Okla.
