Please Read the World Karate Federation Rules of Competition All the general rules (process wise) will be based on WKF adapted rules Link to download: https://www. wkf.net/pdf/wkfcompetitionrules2018.pdf The main differences are: 1. Ring Controller s duties are performed by one of the active judges (main tatami referee). 2. Appeal Jury will be formed with Chief Referee, Tournament Director and one additional judge not involved in incident. Please note that any appeal process can be initiated only by officially registered coach wearing proper attire (tracksuit) and there is a deposit protest fee of 50 CAD applies which can be refunded back only if appeal is successful. Note: We accept video recording as supporting proof for appeal. 3. Competition area is a matted square, with sides of eight metres (measured from outside), with an additional one metre on all sides as a safety area. Please note that this size can be reduced to six metres (measured from outside), with an additional one metre on all sides as a safety area to organize additional ring if the amount of competitors much bigger than expected. 4. For Kata (Forms) and Kumite (sparring): Three, four or five judges system is used accordingly to the number of available judges and tatamis (rings) in use; 5. Face, head, throat contact is not allowed. No sweeping, or other takedown techniques, are allowed in under 12 years of age divisions. 6. Kata (forms) rules are based on single elimination type of competition (with flags) and criteria of decision is similar to World Karate Federation (WKF) criteria of decision for kata. To read about those criteria in details please click here: https://www.wkf.net/pdf/ WKFCompetitionRules2018.pdf 7. On the process side we use similar to Japanese Kata Junior tournaments custom. Two competitors perform All the questions in regards with the tournament rules can be addressed by appointment only every Tuesday and Thursday 6:00pm-9:00pm at Northview Heights SS, GYM # 3 (550 Finch Ave West, Toronto, ON, M2R 1N6) or by phone 416-728-2552/(416)402-0019 kata same time, one has red belt (AKA) another competitor has blue belt (AO). At the start of each bout and in answer to their names, the two contestants, will line up at the match area perimeter facing the Chief Kata Judge. Following a bow to the Judging Panel and then to each other, they will clearly name the kata and proceed to execution. After both competitors finish their performance they come back to their initial place and judges express their votes by raising appropriate colored flag (red or blue). The decision is for AKA or AO. No ties are permitted. The competitor, who receives the majority of votes, is declared the winner. At the end of each bout the competitors bow to each other, then to the Judging Panel, and leave the area. Only in the final bouts competitors follow procedure of WKF kata competition exactly (each competitor will perform kata separate from each other, first Aka (red), second AO (blue)). Depend on the number of available judges and number of tatami (rings) in use, 3 or 5 judges system for Kata (forms) competition is used. 8. In all Novice categories (divisions) the same kata can be repeated in all bouts, including finals. In Advanced categories starting with 8-9y.o. a repeat of the same kata is allowed in all bouts except finals; in the finals athlete has to perform another kata different from the kata which already has been performed by this athlete in preliminary bouts. In Elite categories athlete should perform minimum 3 different kata in the first 3 bouts. After that the same kata can be repeated. However semi-final and final katas should be always different. 9. NOTE: It is the responsibility of all competitors to familiarize themselves with the rules of the tournament before they compete. Please read rules and this document carefully and make sure you understand all the provisions.
