The Combined Site Schedule The Gator women will host two first round matches on Friday, May 11 and a second round contest on Saturday, May 12. The Gator men will play their first round matches on Saturday and the second round on Sunday, May 13. The winning team from each of the 16 regionals will advance to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the NCAA Round of 16 and beyond. The Championship Site This season the Wake Forest Tennis Complex plays host to the combined men s and women s tournament from the Round of 16 through the final. The women s Round of 16 begins on Thursday, May 17, while men s Round of 16 action commences on Friday, May 18. Women s First and Second Rounds in Gainesville at a Glance The eighth-ranked Gators received the No. 9 seed in the 64-team draw. Florida (18-8) faces Horizon League Champion Youngstown State (16-10), in its NCAA First Round Contest on Friday, May 11 at 2 p.m. ET. The other NCAA Women s First Round match played in Gainesville will be held on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. ET and features 17thranked Florida State (17-12) vs. North Florida (17-7). The winners of both first round matches will meet Saturday at 4 p.m. for the right to advance to the championship site in Winston-Salem, where the round of 16 resumes May 17. Florida at the NCAA Championships UF has been selected to host first and second round matches every year since the NCAA Women s Championships expanded its field to 64 teams in 1999. The Gators have earned a berth into 36 of the 37 NCAA Championships, missing only the 1986 event. The Gators have won seven NCAA team titles: 1992, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2011, 2012 and 2017. Individually, Kuhlman has won a team-best 18 doubles matches. Individual Gator News (career notes) Josie Kuhlman has won a singles and doubles combined 209 matches, tied for the 14th most in UF history. Senior Anna Danilina, who is in her third and final year of collegiate tennis, enters the NCAA First Round with 93 singles wins. Only 30 Gators have won 100 career singles matches. Danilina will compete in the NCAA Singles Championships following the team event. More Tennis After the Team Championships Anna Danilina and Josie Kuhlman, as well as the Gator doubles team of Danilina and Victoria Emma were selected to compete in the NCAA Division I Singles and Doubles Championships. This is the second time Danilina has been selected to compete in the 64-player national singles event. She reached the quarterfinals last year where she lost in three sets to Gator teammate Belinda Woolcock. Kuhlman will be making her third appearance in the NCAA Singles Championships. She advanced to the semifinals her freshman season and the round of 32 last year. Danilina, who pairs with the freshman Emma in the 32-team doubles event, was awarded a spot in the doubles field for the second consecutive season. The two teams met one final time that season - this one in the NCAA Championships semifinal - and the Gators captured that 4-2 decision en route to winning the seventh national title in program history. Road-Sweet-Road Florida has played 19 matches away from Gainesville this season. The Gators sport a 11-7 record in those matches. The Gators have played 11 matches on true away courts (9-2) and seven at neutral sites (2-5). Road Warriors After opening the season with two home matches, the Gators embarked on a nine-match road trip that took the team to five different states (Florida, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, California and Mississippi) in three different time zones. Florida posted a 5-4 record during that span and did not play a home match during the entire month of February. Hi Mom! The Gators have played three matches televised live this season but are 0-3 in those contests. The Georgia Bulldogs were picked as the overall champion and was Vanderbilt selected third. In the ITA national rankings released Jan. 24, Vanderbilt is No. 2 in the country, while Florida is No. 3 and Georgia is No. 4. Other SEC teams in the top-25 include No. 13 Auburn, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 20 LSU, No. 21 Kentucky, No. 23 Ole Miss and No. 25 South Carolina. The SEC is brutal this year. This is the most balanced I ve seen in my 17 years at Florida, UF Coach Roland Thornqvist said. Last year, we didn t win the league and we won the national championship. I think this year could be the same. There could be as many as four or five teams that could win the league and four or five can do really well nationally. Our season before the SEC season begins is tough with Stanford, Oklahoma State and the list goes on and on, so we ll be ready from an experience standpoint before we start lacing it up against SEC competition. It was the longest active streak of any NCAA Division I team in any sport of any gender in the country and began on January 22, 2005. UF s last home loss was a 4-3 setback to Miami on May 15, 2004. Regular-season home win streak of 159 was the longest in program history and included four wins in 2017. The streak began on January 25, 2003, following a regular-season finale 4-3 loss to No. 2 Georgia on April 7, 2002. Home win streak against SEC foes of 97 consecutive matches, which is actually the second-longest streak of its kind in program history. UF had won a program-record 108 against SEC teams at home that ended April 7, 2002, to the Bulldogs, who are the only league team to defeat the Gators at home. March 28, 2001 was a bitter cold and windy evening at the Ring Tennis Complex, where No. 5 Florida lost 4-1 to No. 2 Duke, a defeat that snapped the Gators 64-match regular-season home winning streak.
