Prospective Cheerleaders and Parents: We are looking forward to another great year for East Clinton Cheerleading. We are very happy that you have chosen to try-out to become a part of our great program! This packet has valuable information for this year s try-outs. Please make sure you read through it carefully! This packet and any questions will be addressed at the Candidate/Parent Meeting on November 2nd at 5:30pm in the HS Cafeteria. This packet contains the following: Team Selection Page (Page 3 for Middle school and Page 4 for High school) Emergency Medical Form Teachers Evaluation Estimated Cost of Participation Program Expectations/Requirements Try-Out Material Score Sheet Samples (will be handed out at the Candidate/Parent Meeting) Team Selection Page: This is the page where you chose what team you want to try out for. This is BASKETBALL ONLY TRY-OUTS. Emergency Medical Form/Physical Form: This form must be filled out prior to the first night of Clinics. Without this for you are unable to participate in clinics and/or try-outs until it is turned in. You must have an UP TO DATE Physical on file to try-out for cheerleading. After making the team ALL TEAM MEMBERS must have a NEW physical prior to first practice! Teachers Evaluation: This form is to be given to a teacher of your choosing. Allow the teacher a few days to fill it out. These forms must have your name PRINTED on them. After the teacher, has filled it out they need to return them to the office. Candidates ARE NOT TO BE GIVEN THESE FORMS BACK! These must be turned in PRIOR to tryouts, if you fail to turn them in you will lose out on the points from the evaluation. Estimated Cost of Participation: This page is a breakdown of estimated cost for this season. ALL PAYMENTS WILL BE DUE by November 7 to be in time for basketball season! Middle School cheerleaders must purchase shoes, warm-ups, and practice wear packs. Scoring Breakdown: The following is a breakdown of how the OVERALL Score will be calculated. The OVERALL score will be a combination of 1 Teachers Evaluation, 2 Coach s Evaluations, and 2 Judges Evaluations. The OVERALL score will determine teams and how many members on each team. Teachers Evaluations (2): possible 100pts (25 points a piece, multiplied by 2). Coach s Evaluations (2): possible 100pts each= 200pts Judging Panel: 100pts per judge there are 2 judges = possible 200pts TOTAL Points Possible: 500 Page 2

ECHS CHEERLEADING Setting Standards that Create a Tradition Cheerleading Try-outs 2016-2017 Teacher Evaluations Teacher evaluations are an important part of the ECHS Cheerleading Try-out Process. Teacher Evaluations will be calculated in to the candidates overall score. If she/he is missing any evaluations, it will lower her/his score. EAST CLINTON CHEERLEADING PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS and EXPECTATIONS VARSITY/JUNIOR VARISTY/FRESHMEN/8 TH GRADE/7 TH GRADE The following is a structural ladder of skill sets that cheerleaders within the East Clinton program should achieve at the level specified. This structural ladder is to help build a stronger program as well as set expectations for each cheerleader at their respective level. The skills set described at each level are to be considered requirements rather than a suggestion. This will help build a stronger program as well as help the program work cohesively at all levels. Discipline in these areas should be carried across the board. These requirements are set forth by the East Clinton High School Cheerleading Staff and Athletic Department. LEVEL REQUIREMENTS EXPECTATIONS 7 th Grade Motion Basics (correct execution, motion placement, tight motions) Jumps (toe touch, right/left herkie, right/left hurdler, pike) Cheerleaders should be able to execute all jumps with the proper technique. Cheerleaders should be working on tumbling skills 8 th Grade Freshmen J.V. Varsity Motion execution (motions should have the proper technique, motion placement, sharpness) Jumps (double toe touch and combination jumps) Voices (chop words and cut out sing song voices) Motion sharpness (motion technique should be mastered at this level, tight motions, sharpness) Jumps (all jumps should be executed with proper technique at this level) Flexibility Voices (strong voices without sing song tones) Motion Technique/Jump Technique/Voices should be mastered at this level Flexibility Tumbling skills mastered at this level: cartwheel, round off, handstand, front roll, bridge, back walk over, front walk over Motion Technique/Jump Technique/Voices should be mastered at this level Flexibility Tumbling skills mastered at this level: standing back handspring, round-off, handstand front roll, ro-back handspring Cheerleaders should be able to execute the following tumbling skills: Cartwheel, round-off, handstand, front roll, and bridge. Cheerleaders should be able to execute all jumps with proper technique Cheerleaders should be working on individual flexibility Cheerleaders should be working on more advanced tumbling skills (back walk overs, front walk overs, backhand springs) Cheerleaders should be working on advanced running tumbling skills: round off back handsprings Cheerleaders should be working on running tumbling: round off back handsprings, etc. Cheerleaders should be working on standing tumbling skills: Standing tucks. EAST CLINTON CHEERLEADING PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS and EXPECTATIONS Continued Competitive cheerleading allows cheerleaders to be recognized as athletes in their own respect. A competitive program enhances the cheerleading program and allows cheerleaders to participate on various levels. At both the Junior High and the High School levels competitive programs are offered to enhance the cheerleading experience as wells as solidify cheerleaders as athletes. The competitive programs work cohesively together to endorse one another. This allows the programs to grow stronger and become established programs. Junior High Competition: The Jr. High competitive program is comprised of a mixture of both 7 th and 8 th grade sideline cheerleaders on a selective basis. o The number of cheerleaders selected for the competitive team will be decided upon by the coaching staff. The Jr. High competition team will compete along with the Varsity competition team at a minimum of 3 competitions per year. High School Competition: The High School competitive program is comprised of two squads: o Varsity Competition o J.V. Competition Cheerleaders must be sideline cheerleaders to be considered for the competitive program The number of cheerleaders for each squad will be selected by the coaching staff. Varsity Competition will be comprised of a mixture of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. o Cheerleaders do not have to be Varsity sideline cheerleaders to be considered for the Varsity Competition Team The J.V. Competition team will be created on a yearly basis at the discretion of the coaching staff. The J.V. Competition team will be comprised of a mixture of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. o Cheerleaders can be on any sideline team to be considered for the J.V. Competition Team o Seniors are not permitted on any J.V. team. Page 10
