It s the second of four games for the Warhawks in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. The last two will be played in Las Vegas, Nev., on Dec. 22-23 against Canisius and either Hampton or Nicholls State - ULM will look to defeat a school from a Power-Five conference for the first time since Nov. 30, 2007 when the Warhawks won at Iowa, 72-67 (OT) - Senior Majok Deng was named National Mid-Major Player of the Week on Monday, selected by College Sports Madness. It came after he posted 22 points vs. Chattanooga and a career-high 30 points vs. UL-Lafayette, both resulting in ULM victories. Deng missed the last game at Kent State due to a lower leg injury and is out indefinitely for precautionary reasons - ULM is 16-33 (.485) from three-point range in its last two games. ULM Notes Continued... - Seniors Jamaal Samuel is coming off a big 18-point game against Kent State which matched his career-high. He drained a career-high four three-pointers in the contest and also pulled down seven rebounds - Senior DeMondre Harvey has been very efficient for the Warhawks off the bench as he s hit 17-28 (.607) field goals this season. He s also 18-22 (.818) from the free throw line, a big improvement compared to his 23-43 (.535) last season. He s led the team in field goal percentage in back-to-back years - The Warhawks are 407-173 all-time in Fant-Ewing Coliseum and went 14-4 at home last season. They are 3-0 at home this year - ULM never trailed in three out of its four wins this season (against McMurry, Northwestern State and UL-Lafayette) - Keith Richard picked up his 200th career victory as a head coach in an 80-64 victory over Northwestern State on Nov. 19. Both Deng and Munnings recorded double-doubles in the contest - At Minnesota, ULM trailed by 13 at half before coming back to take the lead, 51-50 with 6:44 remaining - ULM opened the season with an 88-43 victory over McMurry. The 45-point margin of victory was ULM s largest in school history in a season opener. The Warhawks improved to 47-18 all-time in home openers - Keith Richard is the reigning Sun Belt Conference and Louisiana Coach of the Year winner. It comes after a 24-win season, the third-most in school history and also the third biggest turnaround in the country from the year before. It was ULM s first 20-win season since 2001-02. Richard has more-than doubled ULM s win totals in back-to-back years - The Warhawks made a run to the CBI championship series last year for their 10th postseason appearance in school history and the first since 1995-96. They played their first-ever game in the month of April in their 64-year history. They were also the first team from the SBC to ever play a game in April - ULM picked up a pair of preseason honors as Deng was named to the 2015-16 All-Conference Second-Team, while junior Nick Coppola earned recognition on the Third-Team. Deng was also named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-SBC First-Team while Coppola was Third- Team (page 10) - The Warhawks were picked to finished third in the SBC Preseason Poll. It comes after they finished in a tie for second-place in the SBC standings last season. In 2013-14, ULM was picked to finish dead last preseason - ULM enters its second season without any APR penalties which Richard inherited when he took over at the helm. It was PSU s first game at Rec Hall since 2013. The Nittany Lions also hold wins this season over VMI, DePaul, Bucknell, All-Time Series History vs. Penn State First-Ever Meeting Boston College and Eastern Michigan. Kent State Uses Big Second Half to Pull Away from Short-Handed Warhawks, 73-62 KENT, Ohio Without leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker Majok Deng, the ULM men s basketball program led 35-33 over Kent State at the intermission, but the Golden Flashes used a big second half to take a 73-62 result on Thursday at Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Deng, who was named National Mid-Major Player of the Week on Monday by College Sports Madness, sustained a lower leg injury earlier in the week and will be out indefinitely for precautionary reasons. Senior Jamaal Samuel matched a career-high with 18 points for ULM (4-3, 1-0 SBC) and also pulled down seven rebounds and swatted a trio of blocks. He drained four three-pointers in the contest. Junior Nick Coppola scored 15 points and dished out a game-high six assists. Senior DeMondre Harvey also aided the attack with 10 points. Kellon Thomas and Xavier Pollard led Kent State (6-2) with 16 points apiece. Jaylin Walker pitched in with 11 points after going eight-for-eight from the free throw line.
