"I couldn't be more proud of our athletes," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "We really had a great night. We had an extreme team performance." A year ago, senior Ashley Priess, was sitting in the stands watching her teammates win the 2011 national title after surgery on both ankles sidelined her for the season. Saturday night, she was up last on the balance beam, with a chance to clinch the championship for the Crimson Tide. As Priess prepared to go, Florida had just finished on the floor exercise with an overall score of 197.775, which put the Gators just.025 head of UCLA and had them waiting to see what the Tide senior would score. A 9.875 by Priess and Alabama would tie the Gators, anything better would win. Priess left no doubt, posting a 9.95 which incited a huge roar from the crowd and screams of sheer delight from her teammates. The Tide finished with a 197.850 and its third NCAA Championship in the last 10 years. "Championships always come down to the last routine and no matter if it was a close meet or not a close meet, I knew I had to do my job," Priess said. "The only thing that was going through my mind was to be calm, cool and collected and just do my job." The Tide finished just.075 ahead of the Gators and a tenth of a point ahead of UCLA. It was the third closest finished between first and second place in collegiate gymnastics history and the closest between first and third ever. "That was an incredible performance by all the teams," Patterson said. "I said going into this championship that this would be the closest and most contested championship that I had ever coached in. I felt like because of the quality of teams, it was going to come down to the very end and that's just happened." It was the Tide's highest score since posting a 197.925 against Florida in 2004. It was also Alabama's second highest score in the NCAA Super Six Team Finals, behind the 198.025 the Tide used to win the 1996 NCAA Championship. Priess and fellow senior Geralen Stack-Eaton led the Tide with all-around scores of 39.575 and 39.700 respectively. It was a career-high for Stack-Eaton and just off Priess' best mark. Alabama posted the highest score of the night on the floor exercise, vault and balance beam. In addition to the 2012 and 2011 national championships, Alabama has won NCAA Gymnastics titles in 2002, 1996, 1991 and 1988.

2012 SEC Gymnastics Final ALABAMA Crimson Tide The Alabama Gymnastics team won the 2012 NCAA Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, April 21 in Duluth, Ga. in the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Alabama scored a 197.850 to pass Florida (197.775) and UCLA (197.750) on the final rotation. Alabama posted the highest scores of the night on the vault, balance beam and floor exercise. It was the Crimson Tide's sixth national gymnastics champion and second in a row. It marked the first time in program history that Alabama has won back-to-back NCAA Gymnastics Championships. Senior Ashley Priess, who missed the 2011 season following surgery on both ankles, completed her comeback by clinching Alabama s 2012 NCAA Championship by scoring a 9.95 on the balance beam. Priess was the last gymnast to compete during the NCAA Super Six Team Final. Senior Geralen Stack-Eaton won the 2012 NCAA Balance Beam Championship, her second individual national title following her 2011 NCAA Floor Exercise Championship. Altogether Alabama gymnasts have earned 23 individual NCAA championships. A total of eight UA gymnasts earned 16 All-American honors during the weekend, including seniors Geralen Stack-Eaton and Ashley Priess, juniors Marissa Gutierrez and Ashley Sledge, sophomores Kim Jacob, Diandra Milliner and Sarah DeMeo along with freshman Kayla Williams. During the NCAA Super Six Team Final, Alabama posted the highest score of the night on the floor exercise, vault and balance beam. In addition to its eight All-Americans, the Tide s championship roster included senior Rachel Terry, junior Becca Alexin, sophomores Olivia Carisella, Ria Domier, Lindsey Fowler and Hannah Toussaint along with freshmen Kaitlyn Clark, Hunter Dennis, Lora Leigh Frost and Brooke Parker. Senior Rachel Terry earned the NCAA Elite 89 Award for the second year in a row. The award goes to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the final site for each of the NCAA's 89 championships. The award is in its third year and has only been won by Alabama gymnasts. In addition to the 2012 and 2011 national championships, Alabama has won NCAA Gymnastics titles in 2002, 1996, 1991 and 1988. Coaches Sarah and David Patterson have led the Crimson Tide to NCAA Championships in four different decades the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and Alabama is the only gymnastics program to win an NCAA title in four different decades. ARKANSAS Lady Razorbacks Arkansas closed the 10th year in program history with one of its best finishes. The Razorbacks earned a spot in an NCAA Regional for the ninth straight year, hosted a regional for the third time, advanced to the NCAA Championship for the sixth time, including the sixth time in seven years, and qualified for the Super Six for the second time in program history. The Razorbacks beat No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 Oregon State and No. 12 Ohio State in the NCAA Session II semifinal to move on to the Super Six for the second time in four years. Arkansas has four top 10 finishes in the last five years, including No. 10 in 2008, No. 5 (Super Six) in 2009, No. 11 in 2010, tied for No. 9 in 2011 and No. 6 in 2012. Senior Jaime Pisani ended the year ranked No. 1 in the nation in the all-around and on floor, and was named the SEC Gymnast of the Year. She finished the season by winning individual beam and floor titles in the Session II semifinal, and was third in the nation in the all-around, ninth on floor and 12th on beam. Katherine Grable tied Pisani for the Session II beam title and finished sixth in the event finals on beam. Pisani, Grable, Bailee Zumwalde and Stephani Canizaro combined to earn eight All-America honors. Pisani earned four, three first-team in the all-around, on floor and beam, and second-team on bars. Grable was a first-teamer on beam and second-teamer on vault. Zumwalde and Canizare each earned their first All-America honors, second-team on floor. Arkansas 197.15 score in the Session II semifinal is the second-best in school history, trailing only the 197.225 set earlier in the year against LSU. AUBURN Tigers Auburn wrapped year two of the Jeff Graba era in impressive fashion The Tigers posted two of the top five overall team scores in program history with totals of 196.875 against Florida and 196.700 against Southern Utah Sold out allotment of reserved seat season tickets for the first time in program history Set Auburn Arena gymnastics attendance record at first home meet of season with over 4,508 fans and over 1,600 students Promptly broke previous meet s records the very next week with 7,299 fans and over 2,600 students in attendance for meet with rival Alabama Auburn was featured in 2012 NCAA Women s Gymnastics Championship program for outstanding attendance figures in 2012 Ranked 13th during 2012 season, the highest regular season ranking for program since 2009 Auburn s 2011 recruiting class was ranked in the top 10 by CollegeGymFans.com Auburn gymnasts tied or set more than 40 career-best scores and totaled more than 60 season bests Three gymnasts were nominated for the NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships, one athlete was nominated for the Brad Davis SEC Community Postgraduate Scholarship, and 13-of-17 athletes were named Top Tigers Auburn gymnastics team GPA increased for the fourth-straight semester Program tied highest ever average attendance national ranking at fifth with an average attendance of 4,519, which includes meets on the weekend before and during Auburn s spring break Freshman gymnast Bri Guy was the first Auburn athlete to be named to the All-SEC Team since 2009 In just his second season on The Plains and as a head coach, Auburn head coach Jeff Graba was named the SEC s Coach of the Year Freshman Bri Guy (all-around) and senior Kylie Shields (vault) both qualified for nationals, mark the first time Auburn sent more than one gymnast to the NCAA championship meet since 2006 Bri Guy was named SEC Freshman of the Week on February 21. She was the first Auburn gymnast to receive an SEC weekly award since Allyson Sandusky in 2010, and the first to be named Freshman of the Week since Sandusky in TEAM BY TEAM NOTES 2 2009 Auburn was named one of its programs on the rise by CollegeGymFans.com, while Bri Guy was named one of the top floor competitors to watch nationally Auburn gymnastics recorded the second-highest regional score in program history with its 196.100 performance in 2012. The mark ranked 12th nationally and would ve been good enough to send the Tigers to nationals in two other regions Laura Lane was named SEC Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. Lane s award gives Auburn three consecutive award winners dating back to Krissy Voss in 2010. FLORIDA Gators Florida took second in NCAA Championships' Super Six action. The span of 0.1 between first and third is the smallest margin ever in the meet's history. The runner-up finish matches Florida's top placing in NCAA Championships' history (also second in 1998). Florida's total of 197.775 is its top total ever in NCAA Championships' competition. Kytra Hunter won both the NCAA all-around (39.725) and vault (9.875 average) titles to become the fifth to win multiple NCAA titles as a freshman in the 31-year history of the meet. She is the only Gator to win multiple NCAA event titles in a single year. She used a collegiate-best of 39.725 to become the first Gator to win the NCAA all-around title and is the ninth freshman in the meet's history to claim the all-around title. She is the second consecutive Gator to claim the vault title, as Marissa King was the 2011 titlist. In total, six Gators picked up a school record total of 16 All-America honors (previous high was 15 in 2007 and 2008). Florida returns 22 of its 24 competitive routines next season. GEORGIA Gym Dogs Georgia senior Kat Ding capped her career by winning NCAA titles on the uneven bars and floor exercise last weekend at the national championships held at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Ding claimed the 39th and 40th individual NCAA titles in Georgia history and the 11th on bars and floor. UGA s 40 titles leads all teams, and the Gym Dogs have now won 14 individual crowns in the last six years. It was the second straight NCAA bars title for Ding, who becomes the eighth gymnast in Georgia history to win national titles in multiple years and the first to win back-to-back crowns on an individual event since Heather Stepp on vault in 1992 and 1993. Ding joins former gymnasts Courtney Kupets (2006, 2007, 2009), Kim Arnold (1998), Stepp (1993), Hope Spivey (1991) and Corrinne Wright (1989) as the only Gym Dogs to win more than one national title in the same year. Ding is the second gymnast to repeat as the outright NCAA uneven bars champion and the first since Georgia s Lucy Wener in 1986 and 1987. Ding also was the NCAA runner-up in the all-around with a 39.650. As a team the Gym Dogs (18-9) placed fifth with a 196.500 in the second semifinal session on Friday. Georgia posted season-highs on vault and bars, but had to count two falls on the balance beam. KENTUCKY Wildcats After a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Champaign Regional on Saturday with an overall team score of 194.750, the University of Kentucky gymnastics team has earned a top-25 final ranking for the third-consecutive season, according to the GymInfo team rankings which were released Monday. Kentucky (11-10) finishes the season ranked 25th nationally with a National Qualifying Score of 390.240. The NQS is calculated by adding a team s Regional Qualifying Score and its team score from the regional competition together. This is the third-consecutive top-25 final ranking for Kentucky. UK finished 25th last season and 21st in 2010. The ranking makes first-year head coach Tim Garrison the first head coach in school history to lead his team to a top-25 final ranking in his first season, according to records kept since 1996. The Wildcats are coming off their 24th appearance in a NCAA Regional after participating in the 2012 NCAA Champaign Regional last weekend. Kentucky s best event during the meet was uneven bars, where it posted a high mark of 48.95. Junior Caitlyn Ciokajlo led Kentucky on the event with a career-high tying 9.875. Seniors Storey Morris and Whitney Rose were also impressive on the event with Morris posting a 9.8 and Rose a season-high tying 9.775. The NCAA Regional appearance ended a historic first season for Kentucky under Garrison, who became the first coach in school history to lead a team to a 196 team score in his first season. LSU Tigers The 11th-seeded LSU gymnastics team posted the school s third-best score at the NCAA Championships with a 196.550 in Semifinal I, but it was not enough for the Tigers to advance to the program s third Super Six as LSU placed sixth in the semifinal. Four Tigers earned All-America honors, led by freshman Rheagan Courville who earned firstteam honors on vault with a 9.925 and the all-around with a 39.475 that was good enough for first place in the semifinal. Senior Ashley Lee tallied her second career All-America honor with a 9.90 on vault, while sophomore Sarie Morrison earned Second-Team All-America recognition on bars with a 9.875 and freshman Lloimincia Hall recorded second-team honors with a 9.875 on floor. With the five All-America honors earned at the championships, LSU upped its total to 111 honors in school history. Courville placed seventh on vault in the NCAA Individual Event finals with a 9.7313 average. Lee ended her career in style, posting a career-high 9.85 on floor and earning her second All-America honor.

2012 SEC Gymnastics Awards Announced FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 26, 2012 CONTACT: Chevonne Mansfield cmansfield@sec.org BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The 2012 SEC gymnastics awards were announced following the SEC Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, March 24. Arkansas Jamie Pisani was named SEC Gymnast of the Year and Kytra Hunter of Florida was named SEC Freshman of the Year. Florida s Rhonda Faehn and Auburn s Jeff Graba shared SEC Coach of the Year honors while Kim Jacob (Alabama) and Laura Lane (Auburn) garnered SEC Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Pisani became just the second-ever Arkansas athlete to take home that title and the first since Casey Jo Magee tied for the event honors in 2009. She ranks No. 1 in the nation in the all-around and the floor exercise and is the only SEC gymnast ranked in the top 20 in all five events. Pisani led Arkansas to its first No. 1 national ranking earlier this year and three weeks ranked No. 1 on bars. She won the beam title at the championship meet on Saturday. Hunter picked up the all-around title at the SEC meet with a 39.625 and became the first Gator to claim the all-around since Kristen Guise in 1995. She is also the first Gator freshman to take the win since Elfi Schlegel in 1983. Hunter posted the highest score of the meet on any event with her first-place mark of 9.975 on vault. She is the third consecutive Gator to be named SEC Freshman of the year and sixth overall, joining Alaina Johnson (2011), Ashanée Dickerson (2010), Amanda Castillo (2007), Orley Szmuch (2002) and Betsy Hamm (1998). Jacob, Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average for her Crimson Tide career while majoring in Exercise Science. She has earned a place on the President s List every semester for her career and has competed in the Crimson Tide s balance beam and floor exercise lineup in every meet as a sophomore. Lane, also a Co-Scholar-Athlete, owns a 3.92 cumulative GPA majoring in Applied Mathematics with a focus in Actuarial Sciences. She was named to the Dean s List each semester and was the winner of the AU College of Sciences and Mathematics Outstanding Freshman and Outstanding Sophomore awards. Lane earned the SEC Scholar-Athlete award for the second consecutive season. Faehn guided Florida to a No. 1 national ranking that they have held most of the 2012 season. The honor is the third straight for Faehn and fifth since 2006. Graba aided the Auburn gymnastics team to a No. 13 national ranking in 2012. AU posted its second-best score in program history, a 196.875, during the regular season under Graba s tutelage while Bri Guy became the first Auburn gymnast to win an SEC weekly award since 2010. The All-SEC First and Second, and All-Freshman Teams were also announced. Athletes were nominated by the coaches and voted on at the SEC Championship. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own athletes. All-SEC teams were based on finish at the SEC Championship. The individual event champions and the top three place finishers in the allaround were named First Team All-SEC, while the event runner-up and next three finishers in the all-around were named to the second team. The top freshman finisher and top three in the all-around were named Freshman All-SEC. The Southeastern Conference Setting the Standard for Intercollegiate The Southeastern Conference is widely regarded as the most dominating gymnastics conference in the NCAA. Since the inaugural NCAA Championship in 1982, the SEC has had at least one team in all 30 national championship meets, with Florida being one of only two teams nationally (Utah is the other) to have appeared at all 20 contests prior to the Gators barely missing the cut in 2000. The SEC has also had at least one team finish in the Top-10 in the NCAA since 1982. The SEC entered the record books at the 1998 NCAA Championships, becoming the only conference in women s collegiate gymnastics to sweep the top three spots. Georgia won its fourth championship title with the largest margin of victory in over 10 years. The Bulldogs outdistanced second-place Florida who finished just ahead of Alabama. It marked the 12th consecutive year that the SEC placed at least two teams in the final top five. At the 1999 NCAA Championships, Georgia won its second consecutive and fifth overall first-place title. Alabama, Florida and LSU all finished in the top 10. In 2000, both Georgia and Alabama finished in the top five, with LSU coming in at ninth.
