all of Fame Classic The National Baseball all of Fame and Museum will salute the start of the summer season with this Cooperstown tradition, all of Fame Classic Weekend, May 27-29. The Father and Son in Cooperstown Lamar Williams and is Son Jeff Cross all of Fame Visit off Bucket Lists weekend will be highlighted by the all of Fame Classic Game held on historic Doubleday Field featuring many of your heros from yesteryear serving as coaches and managers. You won t believe how much fun this weekend has to offer! all of Fame Weekend Join Sports Travel and Tours on what is always one of the highlights of the year, a crown jewel event, when the eyes of an entire nation are on Cooperstown. With all-new package options for 2016, this will be a great year to visit Cooperstown for Induction Weekend, July 22-25. Noteable 2016 Candidates Jeff Bagwell Ken Griffey Jr. Mike ampton Trevor offman Mike Piazza To name a few... Visiting Cooperstown, New York, the historic home of baseball, had been on Lamar Williams bucket list for years. An avid baseball fan all his life and a former 25-year Little League umpire, Lamar has followed the new inductees into Cooperstown s Baseball all of Fame as far back as 1974, with the induction of Mickey Mantle. Lamar s son Jeff knew it would be a dream come true for his father to be able to witness the annual induction ceremony in person and began planning their trip this summer as a late Christmas gift and bonding experience for the two ouston, Texas, residents. Jeff immediately stumbled across Sports Travel and Tours. I initially found Sports Travel and Tours through a link on the all of Fame website, Jeff says. Later on, I looked at the ouston Astros site, because Craig Biggio was being inducted this year, and there was a link to Sports Travel and Tours there as well. They had these two incredible references and were referred to as the official travel agency for induction weekend. I thought to myself, This has got to be the right way to go. After experiencing the all of Fame induction weekend with Sports Travel and Tours, which took place July 24-27, both Lamar and Jeff remarked on how smoothly the schedule ran, while being filled with so many activities they could not have experienced on their own. My favorite part of the trip was the Legends of the Game Roundtable, Jeff says. It was a panel discussion with the four new inductees and a moderator, who was there to ask the inductees questions. That was an extra event that was made available to my Dad and me through Sports Travel and Tours via the package I selected. Jeff also loved that the Legends of the Game Roundtable took place at historic Doubleday Field, which he says added a wonderful historic feel to the present day event. Their seats, located near first base, were up close and personal with the inductees. For Lamar, the best part of the weekend was the Parade of Legends. e enjoyed seeing so many special players who excelled in their baseball careers. You are something like 30 or 40 feet away, and you look at them in awe because they have this God-given talent, Lamar says. Whether you were an Astros fan, like us, or a Red Sox fan or a fan of any other baseball team, people would just talk to you, Jeff says. What tied everybody together is the love of baseball and being there to witness this historic event. Jeff attributes some of the camaraderie to his choice to travel with Sports Travel and Tours. Because Sports Travel and Tours assigns you to a bus for all of the events and provides a shuttle from the hotel to Cooperstown each day, Dad and I really got to know a lot of the people we were traveling with, Jeff says. I enjoyed interacting with the different I m really glad I planned this trip through Sports Travel and Tours, Jeff says. Dad and I just had to show up and enjoy the moments. people on the tour, and we wouldn t have had that same built-in sense of camaraderie if we hadn t used Sports Travel and Tours. Additionally, Jeff remarks that he loved working with Teresa Weybrew, director of sales at Sports Travel and Tours. aving everything finalized and planned out beforehand made the trip more leisurely and rejuvenating. I m really glad I planned this trip through Sports Travel and Tours, Jeff says. Dad and I just had to show up and enjoy the moments. We didn t have to worry about the logistics or planning once we were there, and that s priceless. Sports Travel and Tours is a world-class organization.

20 Years, 20+ Trips To celebrate 20 years of Baseball Road Trips, Sports Travel and Tours is offering Sports Travel and Tours President Makes Every Baseball Trip a ome Run more than 20 of these great baseball-centric tours. See the Preliminary Baseball Road Trip insert in this newsletter to preview these September means it s time to plan the next season s baseball trips, and this makes Sports Travel and Tours President Jay Smith feel like he s assembling a giant jigsaw puzzle. With so many factors that come into play, Jay s work is no simple science. It s not as easy as just picking games and developing an itinerary, Jay says. First and foremost, you need to understand what travelers are interested in and figure out how to give them what they want. According to Jay, the goal for so many of his clients is to travel to the 30 major league baseball stadiums in the country, thereby becoming a member of Sports Travel and Tours Stadium all of Fame. To ensure that baseball fans get to enjoy as many stadiums as possible during their vacation time, maximizing their efforts to reach the all of Fame goal, trips are kept centralized to one region of the country. Planning trips begins in September because that s when the major league game schedules with dates only, not game times become available for the following spring. Jay uses what is released to create a master spread sheet to guide his thinking. Some real educated guessing on game time is involved, Jay says, noting that to create a trip, he must be able to calculate travel time from one tour point to the next, which means figuring out roughly when games will begin and end. This is where Jay s knowledge and decades-worth of experience becomes key. Spring Training Baseball Road Trips It is not until January that Jay can finalize the 20 or so trip options that Sports Travel and Tours will offer as that is when the game times are released. Jay quickly assesses his predictions, makes adjustments where necessary and releases the firm s annual brochure in late January or February. Jay continues to receive positive responses from travelers who are impressed by his well thought out itineraries. It would seem he has a knack for bringing all of the puzzle pieces together. I recently got a note from a regular traveler who said, Your trips just keep getting better and better. You just keep improving year in and year out, Jay says. Feedback like that is just so great to hear. If you love to travel and America s Pastime, why not combine your passions on a Spring Training Getaway! FLORIDA ST ROAD TRIP March 18-23, 2016 Join us in the Sunshine State for baseball in the springtime. Enjoy four Grapefruit League games. ARIZONA ST ROAD TRIP March 23-27, 2016 Join us as we head once again to Arizona for spring training baseball for a four game set. Retired Umpire Brings a Unique Perspective to STAT Baseball Road Trips Cuba 2016 There s one common element that can bring Cuba to a fever pitch: baseball. Baseball took the island nation by storm in the 1860s and has firmly rooted itself in Cuban culture. We visit this island nation November 6-12, 2016 to learn more about our neighbors to the South. After 26 years as an American league and major league baseball umpire, 67-year-old Al Clark of Williamsburg, Virginia, has hundreds of stories to fascinate devoted fans of the sport. e also has a cache of trivia to share. I have about 20 or 25 great, oddity fun facts that I like to talk about with travelers, says Al, a featured presenter on many Sports Travel and Tours trips who adds a touch of whimsy and history to each experience. aving worked with Sports Travel and Tours for roughly 25 years, both before and after his retirement in 2001. Upon meeting the travelers, Al assures them of the great memories they are about to make. I tell them that in order to have a good time with Sports Travel and Tours, they have only one obligation, and that is to show up on time, Al says. The tour hosts that President Jay Smith employs and what Jay does for his clients, are phenomenal. Sports Travel and Tours does everything to ensure that the traveler has a first-class, marvelous time. It is just as impressive as you can possibly imagine. Seeing three generations sons, daughters, granddaughters, grandmas and grandpas all going on a baseball trip is so wonderful, Al says. It s something I wish I could have done with my own dad and grandpa. What better way is there to spend family time than at a ballpark?
