CBBC at SSoG We have had the BBC and other production companies at the club over the years and have lent them our mats to help out with their shows. On Friday they were at Newby Rd filming for a new show called Treasure Champs. Sienna Bullen, from our Competition Squad, has been chosen to be involved in an exciting new series for CBeebies called Treasure Champs. The show will follow the adventures of two animated characters who explore a different value (or treasure ) each episode e.g. honesty, courage, sharing etc. Using a combination of vibrant faith stories, songs, and heart-warming real-life examples featuring children, these characters will introduce the value / treasure to the audience in a fun and relatable way. The short film we are hoping to film with Sienna is about the value sacrifice, and how Sienna is a keen gymnast who may sacrifice time doing other things to improve her gymnastic skills / ability! Interesting to see the process that the BBC team went through to get the footage they needed and we all look forward to the show on CBeebies later in the year. A big thanks to all who were very patient during the long process of making programmes, filling in all the permission forms and making the evening go smoothly. Adult Gymnastics Bookings For the Adult Beginners on Sunday there are 2 booking options, either as a Block Booking for those who can commit to attend every week, or a Weekly Booking (online) for those that want to attend occasionally. More Lux The lighting in the gym was replaced with much brighter LED bulbs Christmas 2015 and on the August Bank Holiday Monday a working party of Club parents removed 20 months of accumulated chalk dust from the glass. Thanks to all who gave up their holiday to make the gym a bit brighter. While the parents were grafting the offspring were coached and making full use of the gym equipment. The job needed a scaffold, taking up the sprung floor, moving the beams and bars, so was a pretty big job. Working on the scaffold needed a head for heights. We also repainted the tumble track wall where gymnasts had picked at the foam. No more picking please! Keep it white. Mike Lea visits Mike Lea, BG Master Coach and Olympic Coach came in for 2 sessions during the holidays to work with the club gymnasts on more complicated moves. Really useful for coaches and a great photo opportunity. Page 4
Holiday Courses We have had four weeks of fabulous holiday courses run by Laura and her team of coaches. We have now opened bookings for October Half term courses at Newby Road, where we will be running single day courses (9 3.30pm) which will include specialist days for Floor, Beam and Bars and Tumbling. If you would like to book, please do so online at www.stockportgymnastics.com Come along and enjoy! Our New Code Judges The Code of Points, which explains all of the rules and marking system for gymnastics, changed after the Rio Olympics and this year all judges have been getting qualified for our competitions. Congratulations to our newly qualified judges, Sylvia Wilson, Suzanne Winterbone, Cassie Carrick and Clare Hales. Also well done to Bev Perkins, who has requalified and good luck to Nikki Havery, who takes her Regional Judge exams on 9th Sept. We are on the way to having enough judges for the next 4 years and have more candidates going on the next course in Oct. If you are interested, then please let Mike know. We can never have too many judges. Was the Scaffold High? Yep and it wobbled a bit when it was on the carpet rather than the concrete floor. Here are a couple of pictures of the pits from the platform to give you a feeling of height. For those who wondered what the U-Pit was like, you now know. Page 5
New British Gymnastics membership renewal process Dear Member, Parent or Guardian, Did you know that joining our club includes becoming a member of British Gymnastics, the national governing body for gymnastics in the UK? Until this year we have sent members details such as names, ages and addresses to British Gymnastics to allow them to activate personal member benefits for you, such as insurance and discounts, and to send out your membership pack. From October 2017, to comply with new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) we will no longer be able to pass on these personal details to British Gymnastics. We are therefore asking all members (or your parent/guardian if you are under 16 years old) to renew your British Gymnastics membership directly through the British Gymnastics website. A new membership process - here s how it works After registering with the club and paying us your combined club and British Gymnastics membership fee, you (or your parent or guardian) will need to go to the British Gymnastics website to complete the new membership or renewal process. This process creates your vital insurance cover. Until that registration process is completed on the British Gymnastics website you will not be able to attend our classes. The registration system on the British Gymnastics website is quick and easy to use by mobile phone, tablet, computer or laptop. You won t need to pay anything extra. British Gymnastics will activate your membership and insurance cover immediately as well as sending your membership confirmation and benefits information by both post and email. British Gymnastics will notify us when you have completed your registration. We ll give you more information to help you with this process before memberships are due in October. Thank you for your patience and co-operation with this change. Yours faithfully, Page 6
