NOVEMBER 1, 2017 The Crown Chronicle Miss Kentucky Pageant A Note From The Executive Director Hello, and welcome to the Crown Chronicle! It is our hope that this newsletter will keep you in tune with what s going on with the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization. In each edition, you will find updates on our Miss Kentucky, our Miss Kentucky s Outstanding Teen, upcoming events, local pageants, announcements and more! Home for the Holidays Sunday, December 3rd at 2pm at Lyric Theatre in Lexington As an organization, we are in a season of change and transition, but something I ve learned in life is that change brings forth opportunity.this organization was a catalyst for change for me. It helped turn a poor young woman from the West End of Louisville into a poised scholar who has the ability and insight to serve as a leader. You see, while many view the Miss America organization simply for the sparkle of the crown, there are many, who just like myself, love it for the way it can turn young women into the future leaders of our Commonwealth and our nation. That s what we are all about! We are walking into a season of growth and elevation and we hope you will join us! Get involved! Volunteer! Compete! Sincerely, Dr. Ashley D. Anderson 1 MKYOT May 25-25th, 2018 Miss Kentucky June 28th - 30th, 2018

OCTOBER 12, 2017 Upcoming Event: Home for the Holidays Home for the Holidays is the 2nd annual Christmas fundraiser for the Miss Kentucky Scholarship organization. Talent plays a significant role in the Miss Kentucky competition, and over the past 80+ years, the organization has showcased some of the best talent in the Bluegrass. Home for the Holidays is a family holiday concert that will showcase a wide variety of talented former contestants and title winners. Headlining the concert this year will be Miss Kentucky 2017 Molly Matney and Miss Kentucky's Outstanding Teen 2017 Abigail Quammen. They will be joined by former Miss Kentucky Contestants and Miss Kentuckys to help ring in the holiday season. The event is designed to raise money for scholarships for contestants in the 2018 competition year. The plan is to raise enough money to increase participant scholarships from $200 to $250, as well as add to the Miss Kentucky's Outstanding Teen participant scholarships. Get your tickets as soon as today, November 1st. Home For the Holidays: Date: Sunday, December 3, 2017 Location: The Lyric Theatre 300 E Third Street Lexington, KY Time: 2:00 p.m. Tickets: $20.00, all seats are reserved and are available at www.lexingtonlyric.tix.com or by phone (859) 280-2218. MESSAGE FROM MISS KENTUCKY 2017 MOLLY MATNEY "Whew! I've never related to the song "I've Been Everywhere Man" more than I have this October! In about a week I have been to Harlan, Murray, Columbia, Ashland, Lexington, Louisville, Williamsburg and everywhere in between. Schools visits, nursing home pageants, rotary clubs, and much, much more! I was thanking God for Don Franklin Automotive when I watched my Buick click over to 11,000 miles. What a dream this has been. I'm ready to roll for the next 11,000 miles! You can keep up with my travels by following @missamericaky on Instagram, Twitter and Miss Kentucky Molly Matney on Facebook!" 2

ANECDOTE FROM MISS KENTUCKY'S OUTSTANDING TEEN ABBY QUAMMEN "Fall is a busy time for a high school student, and that has proved to be even more true as Miss Kentucky's Outstanding Teen! Most recently, I have been juggling the college application process while making appearances, and my most recent appearances have proven to be my absolute favorite. A month ago I had the opportunity to speak at the Kentucky Library Association Conference Awards Luncheon alongside the Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky on behalf of our Bluegrass Book Buddies program, and, wow, was that an honor! This program is my pride and joy, and any opportunity that I get to promote it is exhilarating. Another appearance I have made recently was this past weekend at the downtown Louisville Public Library Halloween party. It was a pleasure to read to the adorable kids in their Halloween costumes, and I even got to play with service dogs at the event! As you can see, appearances that involve some aspect of reading are my favorite. I'm looking forward to the rest of my year as Miss Kentucky's Outstanding Teen, and I am so glad I have seven months left to continue serving the incredible people of the commonwealth."
