CCC WELCOMES NEW FEBRUARY MEMBERS Todd Blake ~ Associate Scott Sommers ~ Junior Executive Melissa Haller ~ Junior Executive Phillip Whittington ~ Junior A Word From The Board Of Directors Dear Members, Forecasting the weather is always tricky around here, but as I write this, the 1st half of March looks favorable for the arrival of spring. I for one am ready for some more seasonable temperatures (and less rain on the weekends!). Speaking of spring, don t forget our spring membership drive going on until March 31st. If you know someone who would enjoy playing the best-conditioned golf course in the area, this is the place and now is the time. Contact Heather for all the details. The end of the month will bring the always popular Go for the Green guest weekend March 30st-April 1st. This is always a busy weekend and coincidentally falls on Easter weekend this year and a great time to show off our club to guests and prospective members. The following week is Masters week, another very busy time and a chance to show off our club to guests and visitors from around the world. Summer pool memberships are still available, and that fee increases at the end of the month. If you know someone who would enjoy the pool and would like to save more than 10% on that membership, please contact Heather before this promotion runs out. Our pool repair project should be complete by the end of the month. While the cost is significantly higher than originally anticipated, the board believes the investment is well worth it, and necessary. I personally appreciate everyone s interest and contributions. This is a busy time at our club, as you can see. I hope to see you out at our club soon, enjoying spring! Barry Reynolds CCC President

A Word From Our Golf Course Superintendent Temperatures have risen drastically over the last few weeks and the golf course is beginning to come alive. We have started mowing the course on an as-needed basis and will continue to do so for the coming months. We completed our pre-emerge applications over the last couple of weeks. The root project is moving along nicely with only a few holes left before completing this phase of the project. The root clean-up crew is several holes behind the machine that cuts the roots, but they are making good progress with the removal and will continue moving forward until summer arrives. In March we will begin a surface water drainage project along the left side of 27. This project should take 2 weeks, from start to finish, weather permitting. In addition, we have a few more trees scattered around the course in need of removal as well as grinding the stumps from trees that were cut this year. I would like to remind everyone to be cautious of wet areas around the golf course and alter your traffic accordingly. Thanks for your cooperation and we look forward to seeing everyone out enjoying the golf course as well as the great spring weather. Jim Young Golf Course Superintendent A Word From Our General Manager / PGA Golf Professional Spring is an extremely busy time for the golf industry and CCC is no different. The staff is gearing up for a hectic few months of golf and social events. As the days get longer I encourage everyone to call the golf shop to schedule a tee time if you are planning to play. Warm weather and longer days mean a full tee sheet. Help us help you enjoy your round by scheduling tee times in advance. We try to accommodate everyone but some days can be difficult. Be on the look out for Columbia Country Club s 2018 junior brochure. The golf staff is in the process of planning the junior program. We welcome any comments or suggestions as we strive to improve the junior program. Attention Tournament Participants, a Friendly Reminder With the 2018 tournament season getting under way a friendly reminder to all those interested in participating in Columbia Country Club s tournament program. Generally speaking, the Tournament Tees will be set between 6400-6600 yards while the Black Tees (62 and older) will be set between 5700-6000 yards. Your USGA HANDICAP INDEX will be used to determine your handicap for the event. All participants must have an established handicap through Columbia CC and must have at least 10 scores posted in the past 12 months. Those eligible to play the Black Tees will have their handicap adjusted 3 shots in accordance with USGA rules and regulations. Walking will be permitted in the Club Championship, Senior Club Championship and Match Play Championship ONLY. Carts will be required in ALL other events. We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the tournament program at CCC. See you at the Club! Chris Sparrow General Manager / PGA Head Golf Professional
A Word From The LGA March will be a busy month for the ladies of the LGA! On Thursday, March 1st we will host our Sadie Hawkins Tournament. We have twenty-two four person teams registered! The proceeds from the tournament will be used to help pay for renovations to the Ladies locker room, which will begin Monday, March 5th. Thank you to all of the CCC men and women who are playing and to the players from six other area clubs who are joining us. What a great way to show off our beautiful course and to show our hospitality to our golfing friends at neighboring clubs. On Wednesday, March 14th we will play in our first match play event at Cobblestone and on Wednesday, March 21st we will be playing at Timberlake in the handicap league match. Carole Stone is heading up our match play teams again this year and Judy McPherson will once again be putting our handicap league teams together. Please check the schedules that will soon be on the bulletin boards in the locker room and let these ladies know if you are interested in playing. Finally, Celeste Heisel has organized our yearly contests, which will begin March 15th, after our lockers are painted and the new bulletin boards are up. She will post all of the necessary information and we hope everyone will participate in the weekly games, the Silver Cup matches, and the Red/Blue competition. If you haven t yet paid your dues, please do so. Your $30.00 contribution helps fund the projects we re interested in and let s you be involved with a great group of women. If you are a member of CCC, even if you do not play golf, please join. Some of the ladies play cards several days a week, enjoy meals together and even get to the course when the weather is nice!
