Project Schedule September 2014 - Public workshop #1: Preliminary design priorities April 2015- Public workshop #2: Conceptual design options: Bike Lane Option Median Option September 2015 Public workshop #3: Finalize Corridor Concept Spring 2016 (tentative) - Public workshop #4: Preliminary engineering design January 2017 (tentative) Begin construction www.dallascompletestreets.wordpress.com
Conceptual Design Stage Focus on overall street design concept and general location of key design elements No specific styles, fixtures or materials selected yet Rough cost estimates to provide a general sense of budget allocation to various design components www.dallascompletestreets.wordpress.com
Community Priorities Key Themes From April 2015 Public Workshop General lack of support for bike lanes due to limited roadway width and safety issues Little support for median option. Most community members saw limited benefit On street parking is a priority Popular elements Traffic Calming Lighting Extended median north of Willis Crosswalk upgrades Resurfacing Don t use resurfacing funds for complete streets components www.dallascompletestreets.wordpress.com
Community Priorities Key Themes From April 2015 Public Workshop Explore Traffic Signal at Willis @ Henderson Explore left turn at Willis @ Henderson Explore possibility of stop signs www.dallascompletestreets.wordpress.com
Proposed Corridor Concept Highlights Two 8 Parallel Conceptual Parking Lane in Select Locations Design Options 11 Traffic Lanes (Narrowed lanes to slow traffic and accommodate bicycles) Net gain of about 70 parking spaces throughout corridor Landscaped bumpouts throughout corridor (xeriscape) Pedestrian lighting between US 75 and Richard Sidewalk reconstruction where needed Refreshed Crosswalks throughout corridor Repaving & Restriping (Willis to Ross) Landscaping (where ROW exists) Tree Plantings ADA compliant curb ramps (all intersections throughout corridor) Decorative Paving (Willis and Richard Ave) Bike Racks (Commercial/retail blocks) Gateway markers/wayfinding No Bike Lanes
New Parallel Parking Areas Willis to Homer (North Side) Capitol to Glencoe (South side) Glencoe to McMillan (North side) Mission to Manett (South Side) McMillan to Lewis (North side)

Proposed New Crosswalks New Crosswalks proposed at intersections of: Richard Homer Mission (one existing, another proposed) Capitol Glencoe Lewis www.dallascompletestreets.wordpress.com
Potential For New Stop Signs Traffic counts showed volumes do not justify stops at: Richard Homer Mission Capitol Glencoe Lewis
Willis Intersection (Traffic Signal) Community requested traffic control/traffic calming Traffic counts show sufficient volumes to warrant signal 4 way stop signs not recommended due to traffic queuing close to US 75 Signal Installation Cost: About $300,000 Options: Build utilities/foundation as part of complete streets project (about $25,000) and fund/install signal at later time Fund & install complete signal as part of Complete Streets project
Willis Intersection (Dedicated Left Turn) Dedicated left turn requested by community in lieu of existing dedicated right Would require widening Henderson south of Willis to allow for straighter traffic movement from right lane of Henderson Impacts: ROW acquisition Stormwater inlet relocation Roadway widening Loss of off-street parking spaces on private property (about 5) Inlet
Maintenance City will seek to partner with community on maintenance of some design elements: Soft landscape (Trees & Shrubs) Bike racks, benches, trash receptacles Gateway markers Landscaped Bumpouts
Vickery Park Sidewalk (Proposed Concept) Sidewalk inaccessible due to parallel parking in public ROW Removal of 3 existing parallel spaces & 7 existing perpendicular spaces Will be replaced with sidewalk & 10 on-street parallel parking spaces within existing ROW (no parking loss on block) Will reduce traffic conflicts and improve pedestrian safety
Before After 11 11 8
Milk and Honey Sidewalk (Proposed Concept) Sidewalk narrowed to about 3-4 due to parallel parking in public ROW Wider sidewalk would be rebuilt with vegetative buffer On-street parking spaces in public ROW to be replaced 1 for 1 (no parking loss) Will improve pedestrian safety
Before After 11 11 8
