Dear Contestant, Hello! Attached you will find information for the Miss Miami County Queen Pageant 2016. Please be sure to read this entire packet because it contains valuable information about becoming a contestant. You will find guidelines for pageant attire, sponsorship, personal information sheets, and the responsibilities for contestants and the future Queen. Also included is a calendar with all of the dates and times of contestant meetings, practices and the pageant. **Application deadline is Tuesday, June 6, 2017. Leyna and Jennifer Pageant Co-Directors General Contestant Eligibility: Female between the ages of 18 and 21 years as of June 1, 2018. *This means a contestant may be 17 at the time of our county pageant. Reside in Miami County (unless she resides in an adjoining county and enters 4-H in Miami County) If selected as Miss Miami County, you will represent Miami County in August 2017 at the Indiana State Fair Queen s Day as well as the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant January 5-7, 2018. Areas of Competition / Apparel: Contestants will compete in the areas of Interview, Professional Wear, Evening Gown, and On- Stage Question during the pageant. A Queen, 1 st Runner Up, 2 nd Runner Up, and a 3 rd Runner Up will be selected by the judges. Final selection is the judges decision. The Queen and her court will serve as hostesses for the Miami Co. Fair June 18-24, 2017. Miss Miami Co. will also participate in the Miss Indiana State Fair Pageant on January 5-7, 2017. 1. Interview Each contestant will have 5-8 minutes with the panel of judges where she will answer impromptu questions. Contestants should dress in a business suit for this competition **While attire is not directly judged at this time, you are encouraged to wear the same suit for the Professional Wear Competition. 2. Professional Wear Professional Business Attire; Skirts and Taupe or skin-color heels are recommended. Pantyhose also help polish your look. 3. Evening Gown Contestants may choose her own gown. At least one portion of the gown s hemline needs to be floor length (touching the floor or contestant s foot). Other portions of the dress may be tea length, depending on the design of her dress. A gown with a skirt split more than 2 inches above the knee or a low-cut bodice may be discounted. Shoes that are clear or died to match the hemline of the gown tend to look the best on stage. 4. On Stage Question During the pageant, each contestant will be asked 1 impromptu question from her personal information sheet or something that was discussed in her interview. The judges write the questions. 5. Miss Photogenic The winner of this award is selected by the judges based on the photos taken of the contestants at the Contestant Workshop on June 6, 2017. The photos are taken by a local photographer. Contestants should have their hair and make-up looking nice at this event. All other materials for the photo will be provided.
SPONSORSHIP 1. Each contestant is required to have a minimum of two $25 sponsors or minimum total of $50+. You may have as many as you wish. **The contestant with the most multiples of $25 will become a member of the Queen s Court. 2. A sponsorship fee is $25.00. Sponsors do not have to be from Miami County. They may be a business or individuals. 3. Sponsors may pay by check or in cash. Make checks payable to: Miami Co. Fair Board 4. Sponsorships may be used as a tax deduction. Please inform your sponsors of this. Receipts will be available at the Information Meeting or from the directors. 5. Sponsors will receive free advertisement by appearing in the Peru Daily Tribune newspaper as well as being announced while the contestant is modeling on stage. 6. Sponsorship money makes our pageant possible and provides the scholarships for Miss Miami County and the 1 st Runner-Up. The money is also used to help the Fair Board with fairgrounds maintenance and other 4-H programs. PERSONAL INFORMATION SHEET 1. The personal information sheet is similar to a resume. The judges will read this sheet before they meet you. Therefore, you want to make sure your sheet gives them a positive first impression. It should include any special activities, hobbies, and any volunteer service you have been involved in. List only the most recent and most important activities. 2. You will need to turn in 5 copies of your TYPED information sheet on June 6, 2017. (One for each judge and one for the newspaper). 3. You may create your own personal information sheet or type on the one provided. Information sheets must be TYPED. Please include each category that is listed on the sample information sheet in this packet. You may organize the information as you like, but remember to organize it neatly and professionally. Please use white paper. You do not want to distract from your information, so keep it simple. Make sure your font style is easy to read and the font size is not too small. EMCEE CARDS (Please read all information) 1. Cards must be typed. Fill them out, as you want them read during the pageant. Try not to list the same activities on both cards. Remember more is not always better. 2. List the school and grade you will be in for the 2017-2018 school year. If you have graduated from high school, please tell when and where you graduated from as well as your plans after high school (college/further education). 3. List sponsors alphabetically and be careful not to forget anyone. 4. **You may use your own computer to type the cards. Be sure to use the same size card and format as the cards that have been provided. Please make sure the print is not too small. ** Actual cards are available from Leyna, Jennifer, or the Extension Office, or you may type your info on the included templates. Put the money in an envelope with your name on the front. PLEASE PRINT THE NAMES ON THE SPONSOR FORM!!! Say Cheese! Come with your hair done and make-up on! Miss Photogenic head-shot pictures will be taken. Judges do select a Miss Photogenic from the pictures taken this evening. NOTE: Please wear comfortable clothing to all practices. You will be modeling on stage, speaking into a microphone, and dancing. You will also have ONE mock interview with some of the pageant committee members. You may want to bring your interview and evening gown shoes to practice modeling in on stage.
