NEVADA SPIRIT TEAM TRYOUT PACKET General Information May 5 th - 7 th There are NO VIDEO tryouts available for the 2017-2018 Season All applications must be received by Friday April 28 th (Please note: the University mail system can take an additional 2-3 days to deliver.) The Nevada Spirit Program is made up of all around talented individuals. Teams have emphasis in different skills, but overall Nevada Cheer is focused on kind, talented, outgoing young men and women that are looking to support their University, perform at games and events, work with younger cheerleaders as role models, and most importantly, achieve in the classroom and get a college degree. About the Nevada Cheer Program 2017-2018 The Nevada Spirit Program cheers for: football, volleyball, men s and women s basketball. Members of the team coach young children ages 3yrs old thru middle school all year long thru the Perform with the Pack Program. Members of the team do community service. Travel varies from year to year. There are NO scholarships available, but Spirit Members do get athletic privileges. Report back for the Fall is early August, Thanksgiving and Christmas Breaks are shortened do to game schedules. Practice for the 2017-2018 season will be Tuesday & Thursday 5pm-9pm and work outs Monday & Wednesday time TBA. Requirements are: ALL AROUND cheer experience - Game & school cheer experience encouraged This includes dancing, performing, jumping, cheering, motions, memory, execution and tumbling. Tumbling skill will help to add to the well roundedness of the cheerleader trying out but it is NOT required to be on any team. Nevada Cheer only COED Stunts. Interested stunt female candidates for coed stunt are recommended to have stunt flying experience. Interested stunt male candidates are recommended to have an athletic background, with some coed stunt experience.

Fight song will be performed. Interviews will be held. UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA Waiver for Participation I,, am a student enrolled at, a member institution of the Nevada System of Higher Education ( NSHE ). I understand and hereby acknowledge that my participation in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs is wholly voluntary. In consideration of being allowed to participate in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs at the University of Nevada, Reno I hereby agree as follows: 1. I understand the nature of the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs I may participate in (i.e.: cheering, dancing, stunting, tumbling, jumping, conditioning) may require mental judgment and a high degree of physical fitness, agility, and dexterity, and that this may include strenuous exercise that requires physical fitness, strength, and stamina. 2. I understand that the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs described herein involve the risk of injury or death and the risk of damage to or loss of property. I understand that these activities involve serious dangers and inherent risks, including risks associated with travel to and from such activities in Nevada and California, as well as travel to and in mountainous regions and other remote places. I understand, accept, and voluntarily assume these risks. 3. I understand that neither the NSHE nor the University of Nevada, Reno, will provide medical or health insurance coverage to me during any aspect of my participation in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs at the University of Nevada, Reno. I hereby represent and warrant that I am and will be covered throughout the activity by a policy of comprehensive health and accident insurance that provides coverage for injuries I may sustain in the course of my participation in the activity. Signature: Date If participant is a minor: Guardian s Signature: Date UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA Certificate of Eligibility Nevada Spirit Program In order to be eligible for participation in the Nevada Spirit Program, Cheer, Stunt, Pom, Tumble or Mascot, the student must be accepted to the University of Nevada. If he/she is already a student at Nevada, then he/she must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA to try out for the team. The student must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA per semester and maintain fulltime enrollment (12 credit hours) at Nevada if selected as part of the Nevada Spirit Program (Cheer, Stunt, Pom, Tumble or Mascot). All of the above requirements must be met prior to the semester the student will try out. If for any reason the student falls below full time or does not maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0, they may be suspended or removed from the spirit program. If the student does not fulfill any of the responsibilities of the Spirit Program, the student will be suspended or removed from the program. By signing this paper, I am authorizing the administration and staff of the University of Nevada to confirm my academic eligibility. If the student is successfully chosen as a member of the Nevada Spirit Program, this form will be held on file all year, for academic eligibility checks. UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA RELEASE OF ACADEMIC, EMPLOYMENT and FINANCIAL INFORMATION By signing this form, I give my consent to disclose the documents below to authorized representatives of the University of Nevada, the Mountain West Conference, the NCAA, my parents or legal guardians, my coaches, and various outside organizations and associations for the purpose of my qualification for academic recognition or honorary awards and to determine my academic and athletic eligibility.
