There will be several Handy Hunter Challenges and/or Derbies throughout the year held at various farms during or the day after their schooling shows. These events will be held at 2'6" and 2'9" and are to be judged together. Handy Hunter Challenges and Derbies will not have combinations or any lines shorter than a four-stride to allow for ponies and horses that need to do the added step. If held as a Derby, the first round of the derby is to be a hunter round; second round is to be a handy hunter. In derbies held at schooling shows, every entry will do both rounds, but only points from the handy round will count toward year end awards. Points are accrued by the horse for the year end derby, meaning another rider can ride that horse in the year end derby. Points earned are cumulative and translate into dollars to be subtracted from the entry fee for the year end derby. (Fifty points during derby series equals $50 off the final derby entry). Points are awarded through eighth place (ribbons through sixth at the schooling shows) and are broken down as follows 15, 12, 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1. All non-placing participants get one point. First through eighth place also receive one point for each entry in the class. Riders can show in the final derby even if no points accrued throughout the year. Horse/ rider combinations who have competed in any class with fences 3'3" or higher or in derbies or classics with prize monies over $5000 at an HJEO, OHJA or USEF recognized show are not eligible to compete. There will be an award given at the HJEO banquet for the high point derby series champion. Puddle Jumper -.75 to.85 meter. T.I.P Thoroughred Jumpers - Fences 2 6.
