A great rollup on Sunday. Transitional sailing was on again with a good number of club boats out. We are looking forward to having transitional sailors move up to crew members and boat owners. The decision was made to have 2 races. A one lapper and a 1.5 hour as many laps as you can. Just as well Phil Robbins and wife were in the tower to keep the times as it was very busy up there!! 8Three 29ers showed off their spinnaker tricks. Mike had a bit of competition at last and, whats more... the Bradfords beat him over the line by.05 second in race one and 0.8 sec in race 2. Well done!! Great conditions for the 29ers too! Graham and Merideth Hams gave the old wooden NS14 a run and christened the welsh dragon. They managed to get over the line first in the second race but Rob and Danielle were too good for them (just) in the first. Todd tried sailing one up for the first race and slipped back to shore to pick up a crew for the second. Jane endured another Sunday in an NS14. Chris is training his son to be his lightweight crew so look out Janet your spot might be taken when you get back from Hobart!! David Gale and Bernard decided they were not ready to retire to a Hartley and pulled out the old NS14 again! Six trailerables started but Matt only lasted a moment when his mast fell down and he had to be towed back to shore. Our one legged Rear Commodore managed to rig his boat using crutches and beat the pants off all the others in race one but Ian Stiff and crew were over the line first in race two, by a whisker. Paul Morris and Glen Frost had some very close racing as that giant genoa ( sorry spelt in wrong last week) was in action again. Matu did not have his performing crew member this week to keep him entertained. 1
Sailing Report Continued Nine catamarans graced our shores last week. The Homan clan decided to give Ian and Callum Bowles a run and an exciting dual took place. Fractions of a second made the difference. Unfortunately Chris Homan and crew had a problem with their spinnaker and did not compete in the second race. Thanks for keeping Ian and Callum occupied! They left the rest of us alone. Australia Day celebrations!! Four Nacra 4.5 s were racing as Geoff Horsley came back to join us after recovering from his various trips away. A good start always makes the difference but holding the lead is not that easy when the race is more than one lap!! The wind shift that hit in the second race gave Geoff the advantage and he could not be caught. Chris Hallett, Norm and Andrew Green had their own private race a few minutes behind Dave Bowler. Please tell me of any exciting events during sailing so I can embellish the story for you. Last week I did not notice too many events as I was busy keeping out of the way of David Gale and Bernard in their NS14, trying to catch Geoff and trying to remember the course!!. Just flick an email or catch me after the race, when I finally get up there... Way to go!! Especially after a hard day...sailing.. Hey, Duncan, that s a Hartley!! 2
