Springfield Golf Club April Newsletter President s Report by: Gayle Harley - Board President Greetings My contribution to the newsletter this month will be somewhat shorter as my wife and I have been in Arizona for the past month and plan on returning the last week of April. I do know the weather at home has generally been somewhat better than normal and that member and outside play is up for the first 3 months of the year. Lets hope this continues through April and all of 2018. I do want to pass on some good news regarding our property taxes. Our consultant was successful in our appeal to Lane County and our property taxes have been reduced by $7500 for the current year. His 50% contingency fee for the work on our behalf will be paid this year but the full reduction will be realized in future tax years. At this point our other consultant is still working to reduce our debt load and find new financing for that debt. Currently we are waiting for proposals from three interested lending institutions that will indicate their loan amounts and interest rates. Hopefully we will receive those proposals in the next few weeks and then we ll know our options going forward. Again I want to thank those members who have already pledged to loan $10,000 to the club to supplement suitable financing. We will not need the actual money from these pledges until we are sure of the total loan amount needed to satisfy our current debt holder. This process is somewhat slow so I m asking all of our members to be patient as we continue to work at a solution. Views From the Pro Shop By: Nic Sherman - Head Golf Professional Hi Everyone, April has always been the official start of the Golf Season in my mind. As soon as the Masters rolls around, I start getting excited about the upcoming year. This season is no different. The course is really rounding into shape, and I am hearing nothing but positive things from the community about our Club. I truly believe that we are poised for a fantastic year here at SGC! Some of you may have already noticed the new logo on the front of the newsletter. This is a change that has gone into effect as of April 1. This new logo will be making an appearance on all things SGC moving forward. The Pro Shop will have new Logoed Merchandise available for purchase in the very near future. All existing logoed apparel and accessories are now 20% the lowest marked price for members. I should point out that we have some special events on the calendar for April. These are all listed on the first page of the Newsletter, as well as the Calendar Page. I wanted to add a little emphasis to the Cleveland Wedge Clinic that we are offering on April 26th at 4:00 pm. This is a unique opportunity to get a 30 min short game lesson, an individual wedge fitting by a Factory Rep, and a Cleveland Wedge, all for the low price of $130. This opportunity is limited to the first 12 people that sign up in the Pro Shop. I cannot state what an amazing opportunity this will be to lower your scores. Finally, spring is regrip season. The Pro Shop staff is ready to give your clubs new life with new grips. Our prices are extremely competitive with the local repair shop, and we can typically do regrips in an afternoon. I would like to extend a huge thank you to Dave Warthen for his generous donation of time and materials to the Pro Shop and our Bag Storage area. Dave has been making a steady effort to enhance the apperance and useability of the club. Thank you sir! Have fun out there! Ground Under Repair By :Jordan Allen - Head Superintendant Happy Birthday Welcome Spring golf! The grass is growing fast and the sun is starting to shine through. As you all know we aerated the greens and collars the first couple days of this month. We are still working around sand and a couple of the greens that suffered the most this past winter received a little extra care. Please be mindful of your ball marks during this time. Greens are a lot softer and ball marks are easily created. Fairways are open for carts. Please remember we have a 90-degree rule in place at all times. Please return back to the cart paths after you have played your ball. Please STAY OFF THE GRASS. Driving range grass tee is not open. Once the seed has grown in we will open it up and allow you back on to practice from it. Jordan Allen Here are the SGC Members with Birthdays in March! Happy Birthday!! Brady is a top 50 teacher at Woodley Lakes GC in LA. Every good golfer knows that power comes from the body, not the arms. To learn to power the club with your body instead of your arms and hands, put the club behind the ball at address, with your body in a dead-stop position. Without taking a backswing, try to drag the ball into the air. If you re a player who uses his or her hands to control the club, you ll probably struggle at first. However, you ll quickly find that once you start moving the club with your body, you ll begin to get the ball in the air more consistently. This helps you turn fully through the ball on the downswing.
