Fellow Cattle Enthusiasts, The Nesbitt family takes great pride in welcoming you to Cedardale Farms on April 19 th. This sale will be our 11th consecutive bull sale on the farm. We are extremely proud to be one of Ontario s largest registered Charolais cow operations as well as one of the longest running one iron Charolais bull sales in Ontario. The opportunity to work closely with our commercial cowcalf customer gives us insight into the kind of cattle that are functional and profitable in the real world. Our customers calves continue to top feeder and finished cattle markets week in and week out. We are very proud of your hard work and dedication; congratulations! It is a very rewarding time to be in the cattle business and in particular the cow calf sector of the industry as feeder calves continue to trade at record values. The Charolais and Charolais cross feeder calf is the most sought after feeder at the market today. With feed grains and forages creeping back to more realistic values and beef supplies at extremely low levels I believe we are headed into some unprecedented and extremely profitable times in the cattle business for the foreseeable future. High quality genetics will become extremely crucial in capitalizing on this market. We strongly believe that the superior quality of the bulls in this sale offering will provide the genetics needed for the advancement of our beef production industry. They truly are the Cattleman s Kind. The management of the sale bulls has been different then in the past. The bulls were weaned in Sept and left on pasture and supplemented with whole oats until early December. At that time they were moved to a 15 ac field and they will stay there until spring thaw. In early December the bulls were started on a corn silage based TMR growing ration and that will be the ration they are developed on. We are very confident that moving to a forage based TMR ration and the added exercise has been a positive change in the development and improved health of our bulls. Our goal with this change was to develop the bulls in an environment similar to what they would spend the remainder of their lives in. We look forward to your evaluation of the bulls and thoughts and opinions of this bull management change. After last year s positive feedback from our involvement with the good people at Cattle In Motion we are once again planning on videoing the bulls in late March. We encourage you to have a look at their website; www.cattleinmotion.com, to view the videos of the bulls. This offers you a more in-depth and dynamic opportunity to view the sale offering. There will also be a direct link through our website www.cedardalefarms.ca. As always we encourage you to give us a call to discuss the bulls and if at all possible stop by the farm to visit with us and see the bulls in person. We appreciate each and every one of you, our fellow cattlemen, and we will continue to work hard to earn your trust, respect, and future business with good cattle and good service. As a seedstock supplier, we take our responsibility seriously when it comes to customer service. Please consider this sale offering with confidence, knowing that the Nesbitt family stands ready to be of assistance before the sale and, more importantly, after the sale. We value the many friendships that have resulted from our involvement in the beef industry and we look forward to the opportunity to expand those through this event. We invite you to join us April 19 th for the sale, some hospitality and a chance to visit with many area cattle producers. It is certainly our pleasure to be your host. We sincerely thank all past buyers and bidders for your continued support; it is truly appreciated! If we can be of further assistance please don t hesitate to call on us. Looking forward to seeing you on sale day: The Nesbitt Family www.cattleinmotion.com
2014 Charolais Average EPDs 1.9 41.0 78.3 20.6 41.1 0.07 0.38 0.03 Birth Weight Information Calving ease is related to the birth weight of a bull. Other factors related to the cow such as size, nutrition, gestation, and calf shape also play key roles in calving ease. The cow is involved in more than 50% of the calf. The birthweight of these bulls are a reflection of our larger size cowherd. On average our cow size will be larger, which in turn will amount to more birth weight on larger cows. Smaller cows will result in lighter birthweights. EPD s for birth weight accompany each lot. We calved 150 registered Charolais females in 2013 and we are selling 24 yearling bulls. These bulls represent the top 33% of our 2013 bull calves. We cull hard to ensure only our best are offered for sale. Horned: An animal with a horn growth affixed to the skull that has or has not been removed. Polled: An animal with absence of horn growth. (An animal can have scurs and still be genetically polled.) : An animal whose sire and dam are both genetically polled animals themselves.
