DRESS CODE CHRIST COMMUNITY SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY Philosophy As Christians, we must carefully navigate living in the secular world, continually filtering the messages we receive from it, while submitting ourselves daily to God s will and purpose for our lives. We are commanded to be in the world, but not of it. Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God s will is his good, pleasing, and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2 (NIV) Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2 (NIV) As such, our uniform policy calls students to dress in a modest and appropriate manner befitting an ambassador of Christ, and when faced with a choice, to think first of honoring God and fellow believers with whom we learn, grow, and play at Christ Community School. Our actions and attire should point to the Lord that we serve, and not draw unnecessary attention to oneself. May the community of Christ Community School glorify God in its character and culture. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV) Our desire is that all students stay focused on the Lord, their schoolwork, and their own conduct. It is expected that students dress well within the guidelines set forth, and that parents partner with their children to ensure each child is dressed properly before arriving on the school campus in the morning. May the following scripture guide us in our acceptance and compliance of the dress code: Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Romans 13:14 (NIV) [Your beauty] should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God s sight. 1 Peter 3:4 But you are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

The transition does not pertain to general requirements below, which will be applicable to all students as of August 9, 2017. General Principles Students are expected to be neat, clean, and modest at all times. Shirts are to be tucked in when at school. 2nd grade and up only: brown leather or dark- colored fabric belt with no embroidery or embellishment is required when belt loops are present on uniform bottoms. Shorts and pants may not be cargo or carpenter style. Girls are required to wear modesty shorts under skirts, dresses, and jumpers. The hem of dresses, jumpers, skirts, and skorts must fall within 2 inches of the front and back of the knee, measuring from the top of kneecap. Parents are responsible to monitor skirt length with growth spurts. Undershirts or camisoles under oxford shirts must be solid white. Approved uniform shirts are required under sweaters, vests, cardigans, fleeces, and blazers. General Grooming Hair Hair should be neat and not covering the eyes. Hair for boys and young men should not cover the eyes, ears, or collar. Heads may not be shaven, either completely or in part. Young men s hair may not be dyed, either completely or in part. Young women s hair may not be dyed outside of natural hair colors. Hair accessories for girls and young ladies should be simple and match the uniform colors (red, maize, navy blue, gold, white, or khaki). Accessories Young ladies in middle school may wear natural- looking, modestly- applied make up. Girls and young ladies jewelry, if worn, must be simple. Earrings are to be worn only in the lobes of the ears. Large hoop earrings (larger than a nickel, for example), nose rings, and other facial piercings are not permitted. Boys and young men may not have piercings. Visible tattoos, temporary or permanent, are not permitted. Outerwear worn outside (jackets, raincoats, ski jackets, coats, or windbreakers worn during carline, recess, or P.E.) These items may be any color or design, with or without monograms and logos. These items may not be worn inside classrooms from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Students must keep these items in their lockers, backpacks, or cubbies during the day. Hats may not be worn in classrooms. Outerwear worn in school buildings (sweaters, vests, cardigans, fleeces, and blazers)

These items must be a solid color without any design or patterns. Approved solid colors are: navy and red (black, white also allowed until December 15, 2017). These items must carry a CCS logo. Spirit Wear Any Christ Community School t- shirt may be worn on this day. Students may wear uniform bottoms or jeans on Spirit Days. No cut, torn, or frayed jeans may be worn. Chapel and Special Dress Code The Chapel Uniform is to be worn for all chapels, special events, academic competitions, and other days unless specified by the teacher or administrator. Parents will be notified by the classroom teacher as to the proper dress for field trips. The appropriate dress will be determined by destination. All Chapel wear, including uniform bottoms, must be purchased from the approved dress code selections on the CCS Lands End web store (Preferred school number 900072760). (Effective January 3, 2018) Ordering Guidelines As of May 10, 2017, uniform items that bear the CCS logo are only available through Lands End at https://www.landsend.com/school. The Christ Community School dress code options may be accessed by searching the school name or using preferred school number 900072760. 2017-18 will be a transitional year. From August 9, 2017 to December 15, 2017, current logo d items from Lands End and past logo d or non- logo d items will be permitted to be worn in order to allow for a smooth transition to the new policy. Non- logo d items for school days other than Chapel day may be purchased from your choice of vendor. Beginning January 3, 2018, uniform shirts, dresses, jumpers, sweaters, vests, cardigans, fleeces, and blazers must be logo d and an approved uniform color. Chapel bottoms or jumpers must be purchased from Lands End in the approved color. Non- logo d items for school days other than Chapel day may be purchased from your choice of vendor in the approved colors. If you are unsure about the uniform policy requirements, please feel free to contact the Administrator for guidance. Violations of the Uniform Dress Code In the event that a student arrives for school out of dress code, a parent will be informed and appropriate action will be taken. It is difficult to anticipate and address each dress code issue that may arise; therefore, the Head of School has discretion over matters related to student appearance and attire. If an approved item is available from the uniform closet, a parent may choose to request the item for their child. In such instances, families will pay the standard $3 for each gently used item. If a student is in doubt as to whether a garment is appropriate, he or she should check with the administrator before wearing the item to school.

Continued violation of the dress code may be cause for dismissal. The administrator is the final authority in any questionable situation. Parents are expected to dress in an appropriate manner when on the school campus, particularly when entering the building for any reason. This would include visiting for lunch, office business, teacher conference, parties, etc.
