RCMP 5 Back To School School Bus Safety School is back in session, and that means School Zones are in effect. The School Zone speed limit is 30 km/h during the following time anyday school is held: 8:00 AM 9:30 AM 1130 AM 1:30 PM 3:00 PM 430 PM Playground Zones are in effect from 8:30 AM 1 hour after sunset. Camrose County School Zones: Bawlf School Hay Lakes School Kingman Cornerstone Christian School New Norway School Rosalind School Round Hill School Alternating flashing yellow or amber lights mean a bus is slowing down to stop. Do the same. When approaching a school bus with red lights flashing you must stop. The fine for passing a school bus with its red lights flashing is $402. Always watch for children crossing roads. Prepare to slow down and stop. Rural Intersection Safety Intersections are among the most hazardous features of the road. Though they may seem like simple points along the roadway, they see an undue percentage of collisions, property damage and deaths. One type of intersection that is very hazardous is an uncontrolled intersection. This type of intersection has no traffic signs and no traffic lights. When you are approaching an intersection that is uncontrolled: Scan for traffic approaching from your left and right. Use caution and yield the right-of-way to the vehicle on your right. If the intersection is hard to see, slow down, cover the brake pedal and be prepared to stop. RCMP encourages all drivers to put away cell phones and do not drive while distracted. Remember to slow down at all intersections, even if it s only a yield sign. Fraud Prevention Mail, telephone and internet frauds are becoming more common and police are encouraging residents to protect their personal information. Be very careful with any documents or information you provide including your social insurance number, credit card information, birth certificate and driver's licence. Protect your personal information and you will protect yourself against some of the fastest growing crimes in Canada. Any mail received from RAHN Plastics Inc. must be carefully read. Should the mail contain a cheque and an offer of employment for the position of customer service evaluator, please disregard as this has proven to be fraudulent in nature. The company, which is based out of Ontario, currently has numerous complaints filed with local police agencies and efforts are being made to close in on the suspects. Additional information on how you can protect yourself from scams or fraud may be obtained by visiting www.rcmp-grc.ca (scams and fraud), or contacting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-800-622-6232. Hunting Season Drivers are reminded to slow down and watch the road carefully especially during hunting season. Scan the sides of the road for wildlife and use highbeam headlights at night when there is no oncoming traffic. Also be aware that deer tend to travel in groups, so if you see one deer, slow down and watch for more. Police are asking landowners to be diligent about calling in people and vehicles on their property that did not receive permission to be there.
