RHP Rob Wooten took the loss for Louisville allowing three runs on nine hits over five innings of work. RHP Brady Lail earned the win for the RailRiders as he went five innings and gave up two runs on six hits. Bats INF Tony Renda was 3-3 with an RBI and a walk in the loss. TRANSACTIONS: Today, the Bats activated RHP Sal Romano who was optioned back from Cincinnati yesterday. He made his Major League debut in Cincinnati on Sunday (3.0ip, 3h, 3r, 2er, 4bb, 2k). The active roster is at 25. SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE: The Bats play game two of a six-game home stand tonight with the RailRiders currently in town. Scranton is 5-6 on the season and picked up their first road win last night. They are 1-3 away from their home park as they were swept in Buffalo the first series of the season. The Bats and RailRiders played seven times in 2016 with Scranton winning the season series 4-3. The RailRiders took three of four at Louisville Slugger Field. SLOW START AT HOME: After last night s loss, the Bats are now 2-6 through their first eight games at Louisville Slugger Field. They have dropped their last four games at home. A year ago they finished 33-39 at LSF. Louisville is in the middle of a stretch of 13 of their first 17 games being played at home. RISP: Game one of the series last night did not display much clutch hitting. SWB and Louisville combined to go 3-27 with RISP and stranded 18 runners on the bases. The RailRiders were 2-15 and stranded 12, the Bats were 1-12 and stranded six. ON BASE STREAK: Last nightbats slugger Sebastian Elizalde went 1-4 extending his on base streak to 18 games dating back to the end of his 2016 season with Double-A Pensacola. Elizalde saw his 16 game hitting streak come to an end Sunday in Columbus. He has recorded a hit in 10 of his first 11 games this season with seven of those being multi-hit games. Elizalde leads the team in batting average (.413) and has the fourth best average in the International League. WINKER S BACK: Last night was OF Jesse Winker s first game back with the Bats after getting called up and making his Major League debut 4/14 vs MIL. He appeared in two games as a pinch hitter with the Reds. He went 1-2 with an RBI double and a strikeout. Winker drove in one of the four Louisville runs in the loss last night, finishing 1-4. In nine games this season with the Bats he is hitting.314 with six RBI and six walks. DRIVE EM IN PHIL: Bats OF Phil Ervin went 1-4 with an RBI double last night. Ervin has eight RBI over his last five games. He is batting.368 (7-19) during that span as well. Ervin leads the team in RBI with 10. HITTING FOR AVERAGE:Louisville climbed back into the top spot in the International League for team batting average. As a team the Bats are hitting.277 which just barely puts them in front of Rochester s.276 batting average. PITCHING MATCHUP: 25-year old LHP Caleb Smith is making his second start of the season tonight for SWB. His first start came 4/13 vs LHV. Smith did not factor into the decision after he went five innings allowing a run on one hit and struck out five. He has a career minor league record of 24-23 with a 3.38 ERA. On the Bats side, 22-year old RHP Jackson Stephens is making his third start of the season. Last time out on 4/13 at COL, he earned his first Triple-A win pitching 5.2 innings. Stephens allowed four runs on seven hits. He owns a 27-33 career minor league record with a 3.78 ERA. Bats won the game, 11-4. 2016 Notes: Stephens spent all of 2016 at Double-A Pensacola. He made 26 starts for the Blue Wahoos gathering a record of 8-11 with a 3.33 ERA. Among Southern League leaders he ranked second in innings pitched (151), third in strikeouts (131), and seventh in ERA (3.33). Stephens averaged 7.71 strikeouts per 9 innings which was the fourth-best ratio in the SL. Career Notes: Stephens owns a 27-33 all-time record in five minor league seasons. In 103 games (74 starts), Stephens has posted a 3.78 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP to go along with 368 strikeouts. He ranks third in ERA and fifth in strikeouts among all Reds farmhands.
