Fairgrounds Mandatory Horse and Livestock project interview 2018 GENERAL RULES & GUIDELINES 1. All entries for the Warren County Fair 4 H Horse Show must be turned in to the Extension office no later than June 15 th at 4:30 p.m. 2. 4 H members must be enrolled in an equine project (#174 189, 762, and 870) in order to show a horse or other equine at the fair. Vet Science projects are not considered as equine projects for fair participation. 3. 4 H horse, mule, donkey, & pony projects may be brought to the fairgrounds any time after 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 15 th. Members may keep their animal at the fairgrounds until the end of showing on Saturday. 4. Judging and rules will be in accordance with the rule book titled Uniform Rules for 4 H Horse Shows in Ohio (4 H Circular #179) and as amended by the Warren County Junior Fair Board. Any such amendments will be on file in the Extension office and posted at the announcer's booth at the horse show. 5. All 4 H members taking a 4 H horse project (including project #173: Horseless Horse) are required to participate in Horse & Livestock Project Interviewson Saturday, June 23 rd. Failure to participate in interviews will result in ineligibility to participate in the fair. 6. Judging times are assigned by project book. 4 H OWNERSHIP 1. Horses and ponies used as project animals must either be owned by the member or his/her immediate family, or leased. Immediate family includes: parent, stepparent, brother, sister, step brother/sister. If an animal is leased, the lease agreement must have the approval of the County 4 H Educator and be submitted to the County Extension Office by May 31 st. 2. A project animal may be shown by siblingsprovided they are not entered in the same classes/division. 3. All animals carried as 4 H projects must be in the continual care of the 4 H member by May 31 st. All members must provide the Extension Office with a written description of their project animal by May 31 st at 4:30 p.m. 4. Each member may nominate 1 project horse and 1 backup project horse. Production, donkey, driving, draft and costume animals must be designated as such on the horse description form. 5. There will be no mares with foal at side shown at the Warren County Fair. 6. Only people showing an animal in a class at fair may ride, drive, or train that animal at the fair. The violator and horse will be disqualified from further participation at the fair. (An exception may be made for children simply wanting to sit on, or be led, while riding the horse in a non schooling manner.) From the time the equine arrives at the fairgrounds for the Warren County Fair 4 H Horse Show, only the exhibitor will ride, drive, exercise, or train the horse. Parents and/or others may handle a horse in a disciplinary manner whenever safety indicates, with prior approval from show steward. 7. No hardship cases will be considered by the Warren County Junior Fair Show Committee.

3 8. Any exhibitor violating any of the state or county rules will be ineligible to show at the 4 H Horse Show. GENERAL CLASS ENTRY 1. Each member will be permitted to show two project animals in showmanship, performance, and contest Other project animals may be used in donkey, donkey production, production, pleasure driving, costume, and draft horse 2. Any exhibitor showing in a class without an exhibitor's number or with an incorrect exhibitor's number will not be considered for placing in that class. 3. The top 3 exhibitors in each division ofshowmanship, Horsemanship and Equitation will return for Championship Classes. Novice exhibitors are ineligible for Championship NOVICE DIVISION 1. Participants who choose to show as a novice in any class at the county fair are ineligible for state fair selection. 2. To enter novice classes, members must have advisor approval on their fair entry form. The winner of any novice Walk/Trot/Canter class at the Warren County Fair is ineligible to participate as a novice at future Warren County Fairs. The winner of any novice Walk/Trot class at the Warren County Fair shall at least move up to novice Walk/Trot/Canter class. Exceptions for eligibility to show as a novice atfuture Warren County Fairs may be made upon request of parent or advisor to the Extension Contact. Novice entry shall be limited to no more than 3 years. 3. An exhibitor in novice classes is not eligible to show in any other classes, with the exception of Walk/Trot Dressage, In Hand Trail, Costume, In Hand Miniature Jumping and some jumping (Please refer to the Jumping Classes section rules 2 & 3 for classes open to novice riders.) 4. Novice riders are NOT eligible to show in Contest SHOWMAN OF SHOWMEN_ 1. The champion of each of the following divisions is to compete: Senior Western Showmanship, Junior Western Showmanship, Senior English Showmanship, Junior English Showmanship and Draft Horse Showmanship. 2. A person winning a championship showmanship class must decide immediately following that class whether or not he/she will participate in the Showman of Showmen Class for that particular division. If the champion declines, the reserve champion showman of that division will be the representative of that division. 3. The entrants for this class must show in the attire they wore to qualify for this class, i.e., Western, if they won a Championship Western class, and Saddle Seat or Hunt Seat depending on the Championship English class they won. 4. If a participant is not present at the time the Showman of Showmen Class is called, no substitution will be made and that division will not be represented in the Showman of Showmen Class. 5. All entries are to be judged on showmanship. 6. Champion and Reserve Champion awards will be presented. 7. Showman of Showmen winner will compete in the Grand Showman of Showmen competition at the current year's fair. DRESSAGE 1. Entry in dressage is limited to a total of 3 tests between English and Western Dressage. Exhibitors will ride using the 2015 USDF Tests for English and the 2017 Western Dressage or WDAA tests. 2. English/Western Musical Freestyle Dressage class will follow the rules of USDF 2015 Musical Freestyle Training Level, or 2017 WDAA Musical Freestyle Basic Level. This class will be for both English and Western Dressage. 3. Music shall be provided on CD at the beginning of the dressage show. Costumes are optional. VERSATILITY & GAITED VERSATILITY 1. Versatility will be shown in four divisions as follows: a. Showmanship b. English Equitation c. Western Horsemanship d. Stakes Race 2. Gaited Versatility will be shown in four divisions as follows: a. Showmanship b. Gaited English Equitation c. Gaited Western Horsemanship d. Stakes Race 3. Conditions for Entry: The exhibitor must have placed in a showmanship and/or horsemanship (or equitation) class at this show prior to making an entry in the versatility class. It is suggested that versatility exhibitors should have completed two years of 4 H project work with horses. 4. Rules: In the event of a tie in the number of points, the exhibitor with the highest horsemanship and/orequitation score will be determined the winner. Further ties will be broken at the discretion of the judge. 5. All changes of tack/clothing must be made within 5 minutes from the time called. Riders not ready to return to the ring for the next class in the allowed 5 minutes will be disqualified. Riders may have two grooms to work with them between Proper attire is required for the particular class. Horses will not be permitted to leave the ring between Horses leaving the ring will be disqualified. 6. Classes will be ordered to provide equal number of tack changes for all entries.

4 7. Vehicles may not be parked at arena until after 6:00 a.m. on Friday. Vehicles shall not block gates or chute, nor shall they park at the north end of the arena under the trees. MINIATURE VERSATILITY 1. The horse will perform three (3) disciplines in ONE class. a. Harness Driving b. Showmanship c. Jumping 2. One (1) Assistant or Header will be allowed in the arena only for the heading and unharnessing of the horse. 3. Horses will enter the arena at a pleasure trot. Horses will perform a walk, park gait, and road gait in both directions. Headers will be asked to enter the arena. Horses will be asked to walk. The judge will signal and the team will remove the cart and harness from the horse and do any grooming or halter changes. After a two (2) minute time limit the announcer will indicate the beginning of the next portion of the class. Any horse not removed from cart or harness will be disqualified. Headers will be asked to exit the arena with cart and harness, in an orderly manner. Exhibitors will take directions from the ringmaster to begin the showmanship portion of the class. At the conclusion of the showmanship portion, exhibitors will have two (2) minutes to prepare for the jumping portion of the class. Headers may enter the arena to hold horses as exhibitors walk the jump course. Exhibitors ONLY will be given the opportunity to walk the course. Horses will jump a course of three jumps. 4. All three disciplines will be judges equally and combined for a final placing. Any horse disqualified from one (1) of the divisions is disqualified from the class. TRAIL 1. An Exhibitors cannot show the same horse in the In Hand Trail and Regular Trail classes at the same show. 2. After two refusals at one obstacle, the entrant must go on to the next obstacle. Three accumulative refusals in the entire class will excuse the entrant from the class. Upon reaching an obstacle, the contestant has 15 seconds in which to begin undertaking said obstacle. 3. Trail contestants will be scored on a numerical basis. Ties will be broken at the judge's discretion. 4. Trail in Hand: The maximum time limit of 3.0 minutes is allowed for the trail course. Trail: The maximum time limit of 5.0 minutes is allowed for the course. JUMPING CLASSES 1. Participants may enter a maximum of three jumping Classes selected must be a numerical sequence (Ex. Class 1, 2 & 3). Participants MAY NOT select classes out of numerical sequence (Ex. class 1, 5, & 7) 2. Novice Walk/Trot riders may select from classes 1, 2 & 3 only. (W/T Ground Poles, W/T Hunter Hack over Cross Rails, W/T Cross Rails). 3. Novice Walk/Trot/Canter riders may select from classes1, 2, 3 & 4 only. 4. Novice riders may NOT show in class 5, 6 & 7 (Hunter Hack, Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences, and Working Hunter over Fences). 5. Junior and Senior riders are eligible for all jumping 6. The 1 st place winner of the Ground Poles class is ineligible to compete in future ground pole classes at the Warren County Fair (same horse/rider combination). CONTEST 1. Novice riders are NOT eligible to show in Contest 2. A judge will be present during the contest In event of timer failure, the rider will re run and that time, including any penalties, will be used. 3. All riders must attend the equipment check on Friday, July 20 th at 3:00 p.m. 4. Champion & Reserve Champion High Point will be determined by a run off of the top 3 exhibitors in each Contest A separate Top Run pattern will be used. STATE FAIR 1. See the rules on PERFORMANCE AGAINST STANDARDS following these rules to be sure members understand the state fair selection process. 2. 4 H youth shall be allowed to participate in the State Fair Horse Show each year. Novices are ineligible for State Fair selection. 3. Exhibitors qualifying for State Horse Showparticipation will select their classes for State Horse Show at the PAS qualifying show and will receive their State Show information packet that day. 4. Exhibitors selected for State 4 H Horse Show must compete in the Warren County Junior Fair Horse Show in order to participate at State Horse Show. They are not required to participate in the same classes in which they are qualified for State. 5. Any exhibitor violating State Fair Selection Rules willbe ineligible to show at the 2018 Warren County Fair 4 H Horse Show. 6. Dressage entries must qualify by Ohio State 4 H State Dressage Show Guidelines. Exhibitors must be enrolled in the 4 H Dressage Project. They must have had at least 2 scores of 58% or higher in tests under at least 2 different judges, while riding in dressage competitions or at schooling shows during the current year.
