Your own submersible on board!

5 More and more owners of existing or future super yachts are deciding to take a personal submersible on board their vessel. This was unthinkable just a short while ago as submersibles were generally considered too big and too heavy for operations from a super yacht. The necessary adjustments to the submersible and the yacht itself were often deemed to be overly complex and costly. Generally, there was also the common belief that operating and maintenance costs were high and that the preparation for actual diving operations were complicated and time-consuming. Since the recent introduction of the Super Yacht Sub 3 (SYS3) the circumstances have completely changed. Market leader U-Boat Worx has overcome all these perceived obstacles with this new submersible. The SYS3 1 pilot, 2 passengers is an extremely compact and safe submersible, specially designed for diving operations from a super yacht. Height and weight are no longer insurmountable complications for a yacht owner to enjoy the subsea realm. With a footprint of less than 7.6 m 2 the submersible takes very little space on the yacht. The SYS3 is extremely easy and safe to sail to a depth of 300 meters. As an added bonus and heightening the guests experience, the passengers can fully control the submersible, under direct supervision of the pilot. Preparation time to dive is minimal, and 6 to 7 dives per day without recharging is typical. Maintenance and operating costs are negligible and the investment in a complete SYS3 including training, DNV-GL classification and spare parts kit is now very acceptable thanks to small series production. Once aware of the features and capabilities of SYS3, the owners start to realize that their super yacht is actually the perfect platform for uncompromised underwater exploration. Super yachts often sail in areas where a fascinating underwater world awaits, especially at greater depths. Why should the owner and guests be limited to fun on the surface when there is a unique habitat to be discovered deep beneath them? Besides one s personal aquatic aspirations, a submersible aboard charter yachts has also proven to be a very attractive and distinctive addition that increases revenue and boosts charters. Understanding our world s ecosystem is currently more important than ever before. A personal submersible like the SYS3 has become an indispensable, affordable and sensational accessory to create an opportunity that allows us to enjoy, learn and teach about what covers roughly 70% of our planet s surface.

Safety first! The safety of our owners is of course the most important concern when designing and building submersibles. U-Boat Worx will never compromise on this design objective. We surpass even the highest standards for safety. Each submersible is equipped as standard with our wide range of safety features including many that are not obligatory. All our submersibles are fully classed by the highly respected classification society DNV-GL. In addition, the submersibles can be delivered with additional certification by the Flag State, for example the Cayman Island Shipping Registry. Classification means that for each submersible the design, components and end product has been independently reviewed, tested and approved according to the rules of the Classification Society. One notable safety feature of our submersibles is the Safety Buoy. This buoy, which is attached to the submersible by ultra-strong cable, can be released by the pilot while diving. Once at the surface, the buoy will mark the exact position of the submersible. This way, the submersible can be quickly recovered in case of emergency. This is just one of the numerous safety systems. Active systems Two-Way Underwater Communication System Independent breathing units in the Pressure Vessel 96 hours of emergency battery power Multiple emergency recovery lifting points Continuous positive buoyancy External Dashboard for Diver rescue USBL Underwater Navigation System Dead Man s Switch (DMS) Safety Buoy Emergency drop weight Fire extinguisher 96 hours of life support Pinger beacon locator Redundant Battery system Manoeuvrability

Safety first! Continuous positive buoyancy The SYS3 automatically rises to the surface if the pilot doesn t take any action. Passive systems U-Boat Worx maintenance and annual survey program Pressure tested up to 4x deeper than operating depth Advanced U-Boat Worx Information System (UIS) High visibility underwater and at the surface Comprehensive Pilot Training Program 2 independent life support monitors Zero-Entanglement exterior design Retractable Freeboard Extender Safety Buoy The Safety Buoy may be released by the pilot while diving. Once at the surface, the buoy will mark the exact position of the submersible. Perfect unobstructed view Extreme surface stability Classification by DNV-GL Maximum Depth Protection

9 Surface stability A high and stable topdeck assures you and your guest s easy and safe boarding of the SYS3. High visibility underwater No components of the submersible obstruct the view of the passengers and pilot, allowing for safe and accurate manoeuvring. Advanced UIS Monitors over 150 systems and notifies the pilot about any unusual activities.

Yacht integration Compact without compromise The SYS3 was designed from the outset to operate from a super yacht. Storage in your yacht s garage will not be a problem thanks to the SYS3 s ultra-low height and compact footprint just 7.6 m 2. Easy launch and recovery One of the most important elements in the operation of a submersible is the launch and recovery. U-Boat Worx has devoted much time and effort developing the ultimate launch and recovery solution for the SYS3, which includes low weight, small dimensions and multiple lifting points. Lifting the submersible may be done on a single point. Alternatively, multiple lifting points are structurally integrated into the design that will allow the submersible to be lifted with a wide variety of lifting equipment, including single beam cranes, dual beam cranes, telescopic cranes and A-frames.

Minimal ancillary equipment required To keep maintenance low we ve used only non-corrosive materials in building the SYS3. Giving the submersible a thorough fresh water rinse after a dive is all you need to worry about. Recharging and refilling is simple and straightforward thanks to the external connections. Our Lithium-ion Battery System also makes recharging a plug-and-play operation. Little other maintenance is needed, hence the low running costs. Once a year the SYS3 needs to be inspected by the certification authorities something we help to organize. Thanks to the efficient design the SYS3 requires only a minimum of crew to facilitate a safe operation. To support the submersible operation, just a standard air compressor (already present on most yachts with SCUBA equipment), a dedicated battery charger, spare parts and a selection of tools will need to be stowed. Performance under pressure Particular care and attention is given to the design and production of the Human Pressure Vessel, which ultimately is the heart of a submersible. Keeping the occupants at 1 atmosphere of pressure the same as experienced at the surface allows you to go deep and stay long without having to worry about decompression sickness. At a depth of 300 meters, every cm 2 of the acrylic viewport is exposed to a force of +/- 30 kg. This means the entire surface of the acrylic viewport easily resists a total force of almost 3,600 tons. It is remarkable technology, and also proven to be completely safe. After completion of the pressure hull, it is subjected to inspections and hydrostatic pressure tests, in which the actual operating depth is greatly exceeded. Every individual Human Pressure Vessel is separately approved by our classification society: DNV-GL.

Undisturbed view The SYS3 is an absolute thrill to dive. The fully acrylic hyper-hemispherical viewport gives you the best panoramic view of the underwater world possible. We have also successfully created unobstructed downward visibility. Having the possibility to look down is very important. After all, a lot of activity takes place on the seabed and across the reef surfaces. By intelligently positioning the acrylic viewport and the individual components of the submersible, all occupants are guaranteed to experience the finest uninterrupted views. As owner of the SYS3 you will get closer and see more of the underwater life than would ever have been possible before. There is no difference at all between the field of view of the 100, 200 and 300 meter versions of the SYS3 and as a result of the acrylic hyper-hemisphere you will experience the sensation of being fully emerged. Optionally, a bumper bar can be added to the SYS3. This bar functions as extra protection for the acrylics. Moreover this bar can be used for mounting options like a sonar or a manipulator arm.

Comfort and luxury details With the SYS3, we have aspired to create the ultimate in luxury interior design. When on board the SYS3, you will enjoy exciting views from a sumptuous chair in a comfortable air-conditioned environment. Just as on the surface, the occupants remain at an atmospheric pressure of 1 bar. There is no need to wipe away condensation from the window as we have included a powerful air conditioner with variable airflow that is adjustable from each seat. You can also enjoy music from a hi-fidelity Bluetooth sound system and even chill your favourite bottle of wine in a cold storage box. The interior of the human pressure vessel is spacious. With everything strategically positioned for quick and easy accessibility, you will feel at home. The large radius of the hyper-hemisphere causes very little distortion of view. Once submerged, you will have the perception of looking into an endless aquarium. U-Boat Worx has designed the SYS3 entrance hatch with an extra-large internal diameter. Thanks to the wide hatch you can easily and safely embark the submersible. The LX advantage The Super Yacht Sub 3 LX is identical to the Super Yacht Sub 3, but has a slightly larger acrylic viewport resulting in increased passenger comfort. By adding extra head and legroom for the passengers, the LX will break boundaries again by having one the most spacious interiors ever crafted for a submersible of this size.

MANTA Controller We have developed a special steering device to control our submersibles; the Mobile Apparatus for Navigation, Trim & Agility, or the MANTA Controller. The MANTA Controller combines all functions needed for handling and steering the submersible. The light-weight and compact controller empowers the pilot and brings the controls to his fingertips. The combination of the thruster configuration and the MANTA Controller give the pilot the complete freedom to navigate. On the MANTA controller, you will find two 3-axes joystick controls. These two joysticks make the submersible move in any direction and in the most intuitive fashion. Even moving sideways is possible. With this manoeuvrability you can sit back and enjoy the unique scenery from every angle and all from the luxury of your submersible. Control The MANTA Controller incorporates smart features like Hold Depth and Hold Heading to make navigation easier as it automatically keeps the submersible at the desired depth and/or heading. Visual feedback on the MANTA Controller shows you when functions are active. The MANTA Controller offers space for additional functions that can be added upon your request. Besides the navigation functionality, the MANTA Controller also gives easy access to various safety features. The Dead Man s Switch (DMS) is one of the such safety features on our submersibles. The DMS requires the pilot to push a button every 10 minutes. If this is not done, then the submersible will first warn the pilot and eventually initiate an automatic ascent to the surface. Share the experience One of the unique characteristics of our MANTA Controller is that steering the submersible has become so easy that the pilot can hand over the MANTA Controller to the guests. This way they can experience the thrill of being a submersible pilot. Of course the pilot keeps full control under all circumstances.

Surface operations Although submersibles are essentially designed to operate under water, we have succeeded in making the before and after experience just as outstanding as your dive. Superior freeboard, stability, unmatched surface functionality, towing and safe and comfortable embarking/disembarking are at the heart of the underwater boats that we set out to build for the most demanding yacht owners. The SYS3 is the best in its class thanks to several factors. Let us explain. Safe embarking Very easy and safe boarding at the surface. The diving tanks not only give the submersible unparalleled stability, but also a dry deck. Keeping your feet dry in combination with the very stable SYS3 top deck increases the ease and safety of boarding the SYS3. Retractable Freeboard Extender The SYS3 is equipped with a retractable freeboard extender. Thanks to this special patent-pending system you can effortlessly create a higher freeboard and embark the submersible even in rough seas. You can manoeuvre the sub at the surface without the need to close the hatch, even while the pilot is steering the sub from outside.

Boat-like handling The sea is always unpredictable. There is no substitute for good planning, but you ll be rest assured that the SYS3 is ready to take on the high seas. U-Boat Worx has chosen to build the most optimal surface design possible. The powerful thrusters and the excellent manoeuvrability of the SYS3 boost superior surface performance. You will be able to go faster, manoeuvre better and expand your operational window. Wireless Remote control The MARLIN Controller is a remote control for the SYS3. Steer the submersible away from your yacht after launching without the need to board first. Sail the SYS3 to the dive site while you and your guests sail in your tender. Manoeuvre the SYS3 next to the tender with the MARLIN Controller. Giving you and your passengers all the time needed to embark and disembark with full comfort.

Underwater operations The most important aspects that influence the quality of the underwater operation are - in random order - manoeuvrability, speed, endurance and visibility. The manoeuvrability of the SYS3 is impressive. Strong thrusters and a streamlined hull contribute to the performance of the SYS3 and enable you to dive safely and easily to depths of 300 meters at 2.8 knots. The endurance of the SYS3 is based on a state-of-the-art Lithium-Ion Battery System, which we have incorporated into our submersibles since 2008. This has proven to be safe, efficient and extremely reliable. From many years of experience, U-Boat Worx can demonstrate that this is an unrivalled system and very user-friendly.

Training Thanks to the efficient design, the SYS3 requires only a minimum of crew to facilitate its safe operation. The operation of the submersible involves two crew, namely: - Submersible pilot the person who operates the submersible - Surface officer the person in charge of the operation on the surface. Maintains constant communication and keeps track of the submersible s location The above mentioned crew need to have the appropriate training which is provided by U-Boat Worx. A comprehensive 2-3-week training program is all you need to operate the SYS3. In case you don t wish to have your crew or yourself follow the training program, you can simply hire a skilled pilot from U-Boat Worx.

Upgrades & options Upgradeable depth-ratings The Super Yacht Sub 3 is the first upgradeable submersible in the world. Clients can start their underwater adventure with a 100 meter depth capability. Together with their ambitions and experience they may choose to upgrade the depth-rating of the Super Yacht Sub 3 to 200 meters, or even 300 meters.
