TIME TO SADDLE UP AND HEAD TO JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING *** RSVP JANUARY 2014 NAASF Week Room Mom: *** Denise Connell "dconnell80@gmail.com" or (562) 208-9303 FROM YOUR PRESIDENT JOHN MERTES "softail95c@yahoo.com" (612) 670-3541 Greetings from Steamboat, Colorado, where the snow is fantastic and the air is a bit chilly. Training camp turnout has been great, as several folks from Delta and Southwest joined us this year. We have better than 70 people this year, which hopefully, is a sign that the NAASF meets will have good turnouts as well. On December 9th, 2013 American Airlines and USAir officially consummated the merger of the two airlines. This has some ramifications for our ski/snowboard club. Had the merger taken place prior to November 1, 2013, NAASF bylaws would require the two teams to combine. However, also according to the bylaws, should the merger take place after November 1, there are options available to the two teams, one of which is to remain separate for this season. In discussions with Na Stewart and Don Oakes from the USAir team, they are opting to compete one more season as the USAir team. They succeeded in winning the Division II Cup last year, and we fully support their team in their pursuit of a repeat. We also look forward to next season 2014-15, when the teams will be combined and we compete and collaborate as one. We will be extending invitations to all the USAir members to join us at our team dinners and functions for this year. It'll be enjoyable getting to know each other through these venues.

and functions for this year. It'll be enjoyable getting to know each other through these venues. We have a number of skiers that have had the misfortune to incur injury already this year. Be sure to ease into the season as you get prepared for the meets starting in January. ( Please see further into the newsletter for details of the Jackson Hole meet.) One of the injuries was to our "A" Team Captain, Mike Williams. Mike was skiing at Northstar the day before Thanksgiving and had the misfortune to hit a hole that was obscured and broke some ribs and his collar bone. Get well Mike so we can see you later in the season. Mike tells me he should be ready to go in February. We all send best wishes to him for a quick recovery. I recommend that everyone check out the NAASF.com website. NAASF President Chuck Wagner has a good letter on the home page stating what NAASF does and what it stands for. You might find it informative. While you are surfing websites, be sure to check out the new and improved "aaskisnowboard.com" site. Rick Schreiner has done a bang up job getting it revamped. After a resounding success at training camp, we are all looking forward to seeing familiar faces and new faces at Jackson Hole. Mark it on your calendar, Jan 12-17, and come join us. John M, President FROM YOUR US AIRWAYS PRESIDENT DON OAKES "don.oakes@gmail.com" (207) 837-2020 MEMBERS OF THE US AIRWAYS SKI AND SNOWBOARD CLUB As I am sure you have heard, and as outlined by AA Ski Club President John Mertes above, the merger has been completed. We can consider ourselves to be part of the "NEW American Airlines Ski and Snowboard Club". However, under NAASF rules, we will continue to compete this year as "The US Airways Team" in class II.

compete this year as "The US Airways Team" in class II. Let's go out with a bang and win our division again this year. We are welcome to join our friends at American for ALL social and team functions including purchasing AA team uniform items, and team dinners. Let's have a fun year and look forward to a bright future with our new American "co-employees". Look forward to seeing you in Jackson Hole! Don FROM YOUR VICE PRESIDENT JOHN QUINN "jpquinn_jr@yahoo.com" (817) 683-5809 We are off to a great start this year. We have one of the largest groups at Race camp that we have had in many years. This is in no small part due to our team members getting out the word about the ski/snowboard team. A special thank you goes out to the people that helped with our advertising campaign. The people that went out of their way to put up posters and hand out the ski/snowboard team business cards. Eric Bergman Denise Connell Rachel Rueter Paula Brown (who also got a welcome letter included to the new F/A welcome packet) Jeff Stender Danielle Honore Natasha Lukes Claude Nelson Steve Pozsonyi

Steve Pozsonyi Thanks for your efforts. More business cards are going to be available at the ski meets please just ask for them. Jackson Hole is a premier ski area. Lets get the word out about this meet! Remember you just have to come and have fun and party! If you have not paid your team due's, you can pay them online with a credit card using Pay Pal on the team web site. Also if you owe the ski team money for a Ski team jersey you can pay for it there as well. I'm busy getting back into form at Race Camp, look forward to seeing you in Jackson Hole! John Q. FROM YOUR "A" TEAM CAPTAIN MIKE WILLIAMS "willy11@sbcglobal.net" (775) 846-4611

Welcome back American Airlines Ski and Snowboard Teams let s win both cups again in 2014! Everyone on the A team did a great job in 2013 special thanks for the efforts and performances by ALL of the women (and KJ, who likes to dress like a woman)!! We also value the extra points added by the four amigos However, each and every point matters at every level, whether you are on the A or B ski team or snowboard team we are all in this to win so here s to a great 2014 ski season! We did a great recruiting job in 2013, including bringing Bjorn from American Eagle to our A team! Bjorn may have some difficulty making the races due to his being junior at AA. All of the racers that raced last year on the A team will be put on the start list. The women, including Kathy, Elie, Jan, Danielle, Louise, Rachelle and Liz?? And the men, Fred, Raybo, Steve, Chickenhead, Rick, Mark, John, myself, KJ and Bjorn. If you see any of the A racers on the slopes and have any questions or concerns, it would be our pleasure to assist you with racing techniques or questions on the course. Here are tips on drills: (1) Try jumping over a shoebox as quickly and fast as you can for one minute keeping your feet together and knees as high as you can; (2) Try sitting with your back against a wall with your legs at a 90 degree angle and hold as long as you can up to five minutes. I will miss Jackson Hole ski meet in January due to an injury sustained while practicing at Northstar. Mark Ralston will fill in for me in the meantime. Let s start the New Year out with a strong showing. Good Luck, Mike Williams

FROM YOUR "B" TEAM CAPTAIN LAURIE HANSON "ljhanso@sbcglobal.net" (773) 220-0821 Greetings from your "B" Team Captain! As the AA Ski/Snowboard team readies itself at Race Camp we know that this is going to be a Rockin Ski Season and by the looks of things now, one filled with SNOW!! On the "B" Team we race a shorter, less challenging Slalom and Giant Slalom courses than the "A" team, so our motto is "Stand up, have fun, and finish" with a smile...! Racing is not required for any member, but I bet when you see your compadres racing, the camaraderie, and the cheering section below, you won't be able to hold yourself back! Our first meet is at Jackson Hole and not to be missed. We'll all stay at the Snow King lodge, with it's gargantuan hot tub, and all the parties will be within stumbling distance of your room..no stumbling required! So come on out to Jackson Hole and hang with the Killer "B"'s, I

promise you won't be disappointed!! Happy Holidays! Laurie FROM YOUR SNOWBOARD CAPTAIN DENNIS MELLON "Dennisswm@msn.com" (303) 949-2426 FELLOW SHREDDERS! You know me, I have dutifully done my snow dance and am happy to report it has worked. I wasted no time jumping onto the white stuff (I'm over 12 days now!) and have been pursuing some great deals on some rad hard boards for any serious racers. I even got Earl to try one out, and guess what...he liked it. The information is on the website under my blog page. I'm also happy to report that the snow has brought a big group of boarders to the Race/Training Camp. Now all we need to do is head to Jackson Hole (where there is tons of snow also) and do some serious racing and fun cruising on one of the best mountains in America. Laters, DENNIS FROM YOUR "EAGLE" TEAM CAPTAIN Natasha Lukes "natashalukes@gmail.com" (920)-360-6006 Hello again!

It's that time of year! Time to break out your winter gear and head to the slopes! It appears this winter is starting off with a bang! For those of you who were lucky enough to get the time off to go to Steamboat, yes, I'm jealous. If you are like me and couldn't get time off, we are all missing out on a fantastic time! As of Monday, Dec. 9th, (start of Race Camp) Steamboat had 109" already, and 103 of their 165 trails open. I can't wait to hear all about it! I think Mother Nature is going to give a great year with LOTS of SNOW! So let's all start planning to make at least one event this season. I screwed up my vacation time, and had it all awarded next October. The good thing about vacation though, you can trade it for open blocks, or ask everyone you run into if they might be willing to swap! I was just awarded my time off in April for Sun Valley, so I'll see you there to close out there year! :-) Jackson Hole is next up in January, and it is always an awesome time! Jim Tullos (AA) sets up a snowmobile ride to start off the week, and it sells out every year! The skiing/boarding is great, the parties are great, and you can bet your cowboy hat that you'll have an unforgettable time! Tuesday night is team dinner night, and AA always does a phenomenal job setting it up. AA Team dinners in the past always included Eagle, and this year, we are happy to have US Air become part of our festivities too! Denise Connell is the Room Mom for Jackson Hole (Room Moms assist you in finding a place to rest your head during ski week). All the info about Jackson Hole, including events throughout the week and the "Oh, What A (K)Night" theme party is on the website, so go check it out now! I've talked to several people throughout the past few months, and am looking forward to seeing some new faces on the slopes this year! As of now, it appears I'll only be able to make Sun Valley, so if any Eagle employee(s) would like to be my co-captain this year, or just for a particular meet that you will be attending, please let me know! If you are going to Jackson Hole, I need a volunteer! Please contact me at natashalukes@gmail.com or 920-360-6006. Thanks! Your Eagle Team Captain, Natasha FROM YOUR UNIFORM CO-ORDINATOR JIM TULLOS

JIM TULLOS "Advskiscub@aol.com" (817) 946-5736 Jim s Chicken Droppings Greetings fellow Hens and Roosters...Remember my motto, if you can't ski fast you should at least look good! The Jersey's have been a great success. They look good, they are multi-functional, and they are inexpensive. If you have ordered one (Paid or not Paid) please contact me so we can get it delivered. If you would like one (and I know you do) contact me so we can get you outfitted as soon as possible. We are planning on ordering speed suits from FUXI later in December. If you are interested in something in that line, go to the Fuxi website, "fuxiracingusa.com" and look at the styles and then contact me so we can get you in the order. Finally, if you have ANY uniform questions, ideas, or requests, drop me an email and I will do whatever I can to to help you look as good as me. See you on the slopes, JIM ***** HOTSHEET ***** Jackson Hole January 12-17, 2014 Jackson Hole will be the first NAASF event of 2014.
