APRIL Newsletter 2018
From The Golf Course, Brian Wilkins We are on the verge of some warmer weather this April as Mother Nature has kept the Bermuda grass in constant confusion with the mild temperatures in late January and February and then blasting us with cold temperatures this past month. Hopefully we can break out of the winter grip we have been in soon and allow the Bermuda to fill in again which will choke out the cooler season poa triv. I will be chemically treating golf course in the coming weeks to help the transition period as the temperatures stay pleasantly warm during the days and mild during the nights. We will continue various projects on the course in the coming month, and appreciate everyone's patience while we progress with these. The dam on # 4 is coming along nicely, and should be completed by the end of April. I would like to personally thank Mr. Bob Lynch for his tireless efforts and organizational skills in the rebuild of this project. While out playing you may notice some areas that will be roped off, this is to avoid turf damage from carts entering or exiting fairways repetitively at the same spots as we continue to gain more course play. My staff and myself appreciate your understanding in this matter. We would like to wish everyone a wonderful Easter and hope to see you on the course.
From the Director of Golf Can you believe it is spring already. Doesn t really feel like it yet but warmer weather and greener grass is just around the corner. New spring merchandise from Gregg Norman, Footjoy, Adidas and Skechers has arrived in the golf shop for men and ladies. Special buys were used to pass on huge savings to members. Stop buy and check out the new spring colors and styles. We held 2 member events in March, The Men s Social Event and The St. Patrick s Day Couples Scramble. We had a great turn out for both and the staff greatly appreciates your participation. Dick Schirippa and Mr. Creech took first place, George Haliscak and Dan Stevens took second place winning a score card playoff, Russ Sloan and Mr. Williamson took third and Kevin Harvey and Allen Hall finished fourth in the Men s Social event. The winners of the couples scramble were all that participated. It was a great social event that everyone seemed to enjoy and the food was great as well. Upcoming events in April are The FMU Tournament April 6 th and the start of the Duffers Men s League starting April 5 th and running through June 23 rd. It is a great chance to meet new friends, play 9 holes of golf and socialize afterwards in the new grille room. Contact the Pro Shop or Danny Hartsell directly at danhartsell@gmail.com for more information. We will also be holding a tournament Masters week. Please contact the pro shop for more details. 2000 7575 SWING TIP OF THE MONTH Swing tip of the month is work on short game and putting. This accounts for about 67% of you score and if your short game is good your full swing is simply a bigger version of your chips and pitches. Also we have the new equipment from TaylorMade, Mizuno, Ping, Cleveland and Wilson. We are also closing out M1 & M2 drivers for only $299.00. That is $200.00 off the M1. Stop by the Pro Shop or call to schedule a free fitting or get help with any part of your game. As always thanks for your continued support.
From the Tennis Center, Laszlo Leiter March surprised us with some up-and-down weather with one day snow flurries falling and others being almost summer like. But not even the fickle temperatures could stop our first event from running smoothly. The Spring Tennis at CCSC Junior 10 and under tournament has concluded successfully. This competition showcased our local tiny tennis players of the future. 7-year-old CCSC academy student Hewitt Dawkins won the 10 and under orange ball division without losing a match. Our other player Franklin Ivey came in a close second. At another higher level tennis tournament in Camden sisters Mahaley and Mary Woods Swink swept both the orange and green ball divisions. Both girls have been raking up victories, the future looks very promising for them. Congratulations to all our players! On April 27th - 28th, the club will host the Subway Junior Tennis Championships again this year. Due to the great turnout from last year, the USTA increased the event to a South Carolina level 3 tournament. This means that we should see even higher quality of play then the previous year. We are anticipating around 80 tennis players from all over South Carolina. Most of are juniors will compete in the tournament, so wish them all luck. Happy Easter and see you on the courts!
