www.lynnacademy.com Vol #2, October 2017 STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS Meet soon to be 12-year-old Lily Woloshin from our Sleepy Hollow, NY studio. Lily is a Current World Medalist and a podium 4th Place Finisher at the most Recent North American Championships! How long have you been dancing? 6 Years What age group and competitive level are you in? Open Championships Under 12 How often do you attend class and practice at home? I attend class 4 days a week, 2 private lessons a week and works with a trainer and practices at home What is your favorite dance? Planxty Davis What is your favorite Irish Dance Moment? My favorite Irish dance moment was when I was called out to be the top at the NA Championships What is your process for winning results? Always show up to classes and have many private lessons. Have a good diet (only 1 cheat day leading up to competitions) and practice at home everyday (personal trainer as well). What advice would you give to our new students? Always practice whenever you can & make sure to show up to dance class! Good diets! What was your most disappointing competition experience and how did you move on from it? My most disappointing experience was when I was inconsistently placing at Feisanna. It was a very negative moment for me. I have moved on from this by practicing in class, but not just showing up to class, I have been doing my 48 bars of my steps. I have also been taking my constructive criticism and applying the information to my dancing. That way during a competition I know everything I need to work on and remember. I also write the feedback in a notebook and whenever I practice I go through the notes. This will make me a smart dancer bc I make the most out of every class by doing so. SENIOR HIGHLIGHTS Meet our GRADUATING SENIOR Olivia Anderson. Olivia is a Senior at Greenwich High School and originally learned to Irish Dance in Mexico. She dances at our Stamford, CT studio. How long have you been dancing? 8 Years What age group and competitive level are you in? Preliminary Under 18 Where did you start taking Irish dancing Lessons? Mexico What is your favorite Irish Dance Memory? Winning 8th place in Traditional Set Competition at Oireachtas 2 years ago. What are your plans for next year after High School? I m going to college either in Florida or Vermont. What advice would you give to our students? Always work hard and dance until you re in pain. Remember if you re not out of here exhausted, you didn t push hard enough.

It s a great place to find gently used Lynn beginner shorts, tees, wind suits, etc. If you have something dance related you d like to sell, feel free! Just no solo dresses, and no tee shirts (camp, Oireachtas, etc.) that were provided free to your dancer by the PTA. Email Lynne at lynneseich@comcast.net with any questions, or text her at 908-330-1700 GOOD ADVICE! Irish Dancing takes time to learn! One year is the perfect amount of time to see if this is something that your child enjoys. And the only way to really know, is to have your dancer attend a parade in March and perform in a show in March. The dancers should know enough to dance in a show by March. Then at the end of the year, your dancer will be ready to dance in our wonderful showcase or maybe even our Feis at the end of April or beginning of May! The instructor will let you know. Also know that kids learn at differing speeds. It took me 2 years to get out of the beginner level as I never placed when my sister was placing first at every Feis, then something just clicked and then I was full steam ahead and before I knew it I was dancing on Broadway!
