Once the house lights go down and the stage lights go up, the dancer will lose all of the beneficial features to see their pretty face. The stage lights wash out all skin tones. Accenting the eyes, lips, and cheeks with makeup will ensure you can see your dancer from any seat in the house. Up close the dancer may look silly with heavy makeup but once on stage they will look completely normal. Full makeup and hair is required for our dress rehearsals. Please teach your child that sharing makeup is unsanitary. Helpful Makeup tutorial for kids stage makeup link: http://m.wikihow.com/do-stage-makeup-on-kids
Page 12 of 22 Hair for The Sleeping Beauty All dancers are required to wear hair in a classical ballet bun. No bangs. You will need: brush, comb, hair elastic, bobby pins, hair net, hair pins. If your costume comes with a hair piece please ask your instructor how to wear it. Everyone has different needs when it comes to hair, there are a lot of tutorials online that can help you. You can search ballet bun, classical bun, bun for short hair, bun for thick hair. Please advise your child to NOT share hair accessories. Makeup for Advanced Dancers: The link I am providing for Advanced Ballet dancers is a difficult application. I encourage all of our advanced dancers to practice before dress rehearsals. Purchase colors for your skin tones. Nudes, browns, and whites are good! Practice, practice, practice - makes perfect ;) Makeup tutorials: https://youtu.be/btbbnephhai http://www.danceadvantage.net/ballet-eye-makeup/
Page 13 of 22 FESTIVAL HAIR & MAKEUP INFORMATION & LINKS! Hair for ALL FESTIVAL Dancers! Hair should be pulled back off the face in a neat pony tail at the crown of the head. No bangs and no whispies" (use hair gel and hairspray). Please ask your teacher for advice on how to wear any hair pieces that come with your costume. -Dances with Hats - The High Ponytail will get in the way - teachers will advise. -Ballet dances in the Festival need to have hair in a bun. -Boys - Use a hairspray or gel to slick hair down, following your natural hair line. Makeup for all Festival Dancers Why do dancers where stage makeup? Stage makeup is necessary for all dancers. Once the house lights go down and the stage lights go up, the dancer will lose all of the beneficial features to see their pretty faces. The stage lights wash out all skin tones. Accenting the eyes, lips, and cheeks with makeup will ensure you can see your dancer from any seat in the house. Up close, the dancer may look silly with heavy makeup but once on stage we look completely normal. Makeup is mandatory for dress rehearsal so we can correct if needed. Page 14 of 22 Costumes for ALL Dancers: Costumes will be sent home Monday May 7 - Saturday May 12, 2018 Costumes will only go home on accounts that are paid in full. If your child has more than one dance they will be required to wear a nude colored camisole/leotard as an undergarment. Costumes are custom made and cannot be replaced if lost or damaged. Please do not allow your dancer to play in the costume until after his or her final performance. If there are any problems with your child s costume, please notify the studio immediately. You may remove costume from bag and hang it up in a steam filled bathroom to remove any wrinkles. Please put your child s name on everything to ensure that all items come back home with them.
