Cyan Royal Yacht Club of Victoria R5888
Cyan is a classic cruising yacht designed by Sparkman & Stephens in New York in 1960 (Design 1599) for Bob Rusk. He was a silk screen printer and he named her Cyan after the printers blue ink.
Cyan was built in Rosny, Tasmania by Shipwright Barry Wilson in King William Pine with laid teak king plank and steam bent deck and was launched in April 1971 and renewed comprehensively at Woolwich Marina in 1998.
Her sister yacht is Margaret Rintoul II (S & S 48) which has been renamed Spirit of Koomooloo by owner Mike Freebairn and for many years both sailed on Sydney Harbour during her 18 years of ownership by Bill Manning. He sailed her regularly from RSYS to Lord Howe Island and up to the Gold Coast as well as holidays at Pittwater.
Cyan has been at RYCV and an active participant in the Classic Yacht Association races since being purchased by Craig Brown in October 2006. The summer weeks have been enjoyed around the Mornington Peninsula with many family and social sailing events. She has been much loved with over 250 different crew and friends on board as well as being selected for scenes in a television movie, beach towel advertisements and for the fond farewell for a dearly loved sailor.
Cyan has been maintained thoroughly by Ferdi Darley, Mariner Engineering, Doyle Sails and Oz Spars over the past 7 years and is superbly equipped for a wide range of sailing adventures, for racing and for enduring family sailing memories.
