The Seahorse (2009-2010) #8 Front Range League Championships: On February 6 th, Fairview placed second in our league championships scoring a total of 689 points against champion Fort Collins 725.5, fourth place Monarch s total of 546.5,and 6 th place Boulder s total of 383.5 It is noteworthy that the team was able to hold 18 of our top swimmers from the meet and still place second. Congratulations to new state qualifiers Kasia Rasker in the 200 individual medley (2:19.61) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12.18) ; and Zoe Verhoeven in the 50 freestyle.. These two athletes bring our season total to 22 swimmers thereby meeting our team goal. The Knights were led by Jennifer Kuhn and Kasia Rasker who each placed in the championship final in two individual events. In the 200 freestyle, Jennifer Kuhn placed 6 th in the championship final (2:10.79/2:09.97). Other Fairview finalists were Kendra Werner (2:14.17/2:14.10) and Rosie Irwin (2:15.00/2:14.10) who tied for 12 th and Rebecca Warren who placed 18 th (2:17.35/2:16.54). The rules of meet prescribe that only four swimmers from a team advance to finals. The following swimmers would have swum finals except for this rule, and will earn a Fairview athletic letter based upon placing in preliminaries among the top 24 swimmers: Anna Royer (2:18.44) finished 18 th in preliminaries and Maggie Nazarenus (2:19.30) finished 20 th. Kasia Rasker led our medley swimmers with a 4 th place finish (2:19.61/2:22.20). Other Fairview swimmers in finals were Julia Ting in 11 th (2:27.89/2:29.24); Tessa Schoenhals in 12 th (2:29.16/2:29.39) and Taylor Bissert in 15 th (2:30.41/2:31.16). Sarah Hendricks (2:33.99) was the 19 th fastest qualifier Zoe Verhoeven led our sprint free corps. The state qualifying time in the 50 free is 26.00. Zoe s best time coming into the meet was 26.38. In prelims she swam 26.09 in qualifying 7 th for the championship final. In an attempt to earn her state qual, Zoe led off our 200 free relay in prelims with a 26.01, missing her cut by.01. In the finals of the 50, Zoe swam 25.98, good for 6 th place and she became the team s 22 nd qualifier equaling our season goal. Our other two finalists in the 50 free were Rachel Anderson in 17 th place (26.72/26.31) and Michaela Metzler in 19 th place (26.84/26.60). Lizzy Szoke led the Diving Knights with a 3 rd place finish in 318.06. Other finalists were Erika Petroy in 15 th (210.05), Erin Walters in 17 th (195.90) and Kelly Hartzell in 22 nd (153.70) All four Fairview finalists in the 100 butterfly swim in the first consolation finals. Our swimmers were Taylor Bissert in 11 th (1:07.46/1:07.00); Rebecca Warren in 13 th
(1:07.46/1:07.70); Tessa Schoenhals in 15 th (1:08.22/1:09.00) and Maggie Best in 16 th (1:09.02/1:11.35). Julia Ting was the 21 st qualifier in 1:10.75. Michaela Metzler finished 8 th in the championship final in the 100 free (58.28/58.71). Zoe Verhoeven broke the 58 second barrier in finals swimming a 57.86, good for 10 th place and Rachel Anderson finished 13 th 958.87/58.75) Jennifer Kuhn finished 4 th in the 500 freestyle (5:49.75/5:47.38). Jen showed great determination in bringing her last two 50 splits home in 34.89 and 32.24. Other Fairview finalists were Alice Hearn in 13 th (6:05.06/6:6:07.53); Rosie Irwin in 14 th (6:06.06/6:09.27) and Sarah Hendricks in 20 th (6:18.68/6:16.24). Anna Royer was the 21 st qualifier in 6:19.70. Eliza Gonzalez placed in backstroker with a 3 rd place finish in 1:02.82- the highest individual swim finish by a Knight. In preliminaries, Kendall Fosse swam 1:01.38 and Ashani Gottlieb swam 1:02.09, both girls electing not to swim finals. Jhana Gottlieb placed 11 th in finals (1:06.79/1:07.52); Kendra Werner placed 14 th (1:07.32/1:08.08) and Tara Riedl placed 17 th (1:08.93/1:08.06). The team had two breaststrokers in the championship final: Kasia Rasker finished 4 th (1:12.18/1:12.51) and MacKenna Johnson finished 8 th (1:13.13/1:14.67). Maddie Oakley finished in 9 th place in 1;15.17, which represented a personal best time by 4.3 seconds, and Talia Bussi-Sottile finished in 12 th (1:17.31/1:16.00). Ann Weinheimer was the 15 th fastest qualifier in 1:18.88. Relays: League rules permit only one relay per team. Our 200 medley relay (1:58.22) placed 4 th and was comprised of Eliza Gonzalez (29.14), Talia Bussi-Sottile (33.61), Maggie Best (30.21) and Keeley Hernandez (25.26). The 200 free relay (1:44.75) finished 5 th and was swum by Rachel Anderson 926.64), Zoe Verhoeven (26.14), Michaela Metzler (26.47) and Keeley Hernandez (25.50). Our 400 free relay (3:57.59) placed 6 th and was composed of Kasia Rasker (59.94), Kendra Werner (1:00.90) Michaela Metzler (58.72) and Rachel Anderson (58.03) 5A the State Championships: State Championships Venue Epic Pool, Fort Collins, take I-25 North to the Prospect Road exit, then west 2-3 miles.
